- The “True” Definitive Editions…

With the OG soundtracks and everything! I would like to try to play SA on a tube TV to see if it looks better than HDTV.
ID: hl0ypukID: hl11h6nIt's peak game visual design, it use the blurryness of crt to hide it's weaknesses
ID: hl12j37Yeah it’s those small things that don’t translate well on new er hardware and high def TVs. Your mind filled in the gaps of the character and world details caused by the lower resolution CRTs. The devs also brilliantly used things like fog to hide some of the far away details and asset loading.

These games were released in a 4 year timespan or so and then there's GTA V soon celebrating it's 10 year anniversary.
ID: hl1mziwWhy does everyone act like rdr2 doesn’t exist and that it wasn’t a massive undertaking for rockstar?
Rdr2 was worked on by all their studios which is why it’s a rockstar global production. It’s obvious how much work went into and it’s clearly more ambitious than their previous games.
Look at naughty dog. 3 uncharted games and last of us for ps3. For ps4? Last of us 2 and uncharted 4, just 2 games.
Their output is less frequent now than before because back then only rockstar North worked on gta while the other studios worked on other stuff. But now after rdr2 they have all their studios tackling one game to make it the best it can be.

Yeah definitely. What a fiasco the definitive edition is. They really fucked this up... what a shame.
Especially the fact that the removed the legacy versions from Steam makes this even worse.
-
Hell even the OG Xbox version is better than any of the rerelease versions.
ID: hl0ztnmAgreed, I just posted my copies of the original PS2 versions, since that’s the console I had at the time. The Xbox versions played great too.
ID: hl103bzImpressive still having the originals, though. Congrats on that.

I was lucky enough to buy them on Steam when they were available, been streaming them with some HD/Widescreen compatibility mods on them, legit looks fantastic, people comment a lot about how it looks better then the Definitive edition with those mods.
Way to go, Rockstar.
ID: hl1ilxfYup a lot of old PC games will actually do high res no problem even without mods. San Andreas should support 16:9 widescreen too, but probably not the older ones.
It's cool to do on an emulator too if you can get it running well enough. PSP games at 4K without even changing the code.

Imagine one console getting THREE GTA games…
ID: hl1dukwTechnically there were 2 more... “liberty city and vice city stories” based on the PSP releases. Fantastic games as well…
ID: hl1k5w1I always wonder why SA never got the prequel treatment.

Boy did I love Vice City...

brave.

Proof that gameplay > graphics

Part of the "3 games, one console" "1 game, 3 consoles" meme that I both love for pointing that out to me and hate... for pointing that out to me.
The sad part is that when people wait 10 years for GTA6 and it's still a rushed, buggy mess on release, they'll cry like it's a new thing rather than just not buying it because they are completely brainwashed. Many sighs.
ID: hl1gkuaWhen has rockstar released a buggy game? The remaster was outsourced to another developer

Most people thought the original Xbox and PC versions were superior when these games were current, TBH.
ID: hl18qysThat may be true based on personal preferences and opinions, but I gotta give mad props to the original Ps2 versions, since they came out first before all other versions. If it weren’t for the success of these versions, we may not have had the awesome ports that followed on other platforms. I also owned these on PC, but the PS2 versions in my opinion are the real OGs. Just my 2 cents.
ID: hl1a4vkNo San Andreas had the orange tint exclusive to PS2 version.
ID: hl1ainqYou could turn on that shader in the PC version if you really wanted it. I wasn't referring to that, though, rather the resolution they rendered at and so on.
-
isnt it mad, we had 3 games on 1 console gen.
now we have 1 game for 3 console gens
ID: hl1jwdxIf you count the psp ports 5 games
-
Xbox was better because you could upload your own CDs
ID: hl0zwf3And PC versions were better than those.
ID: hl11r0tFantastic version
ID: hl11ppjThose versions also came out a year or so after the original releases on the ps2, so they had time to add some awesome improvements. That was a great feature that I wished more consoles did today. I remember buying GTA3 on PC when it was available and blasting my own music, it was incredible.

It definitely doesn’t look better, but it “feels” better 🙂
