Maybe it's just me but I feel like a picking a CPU is no longer a difficult task when it comes to gaming.
As long as you pick at least Ryzen 5 / Core i5 of the last 2 generations you will be fine at all resolutions. Of course there is differences but they are so small it's arguably negligible to the gaming experience.
GPUs seem to be the new CPUs in this regard, but as we all know GPUs are kind of a touchy subject right now

It's pretty much been standard practice to commit as much of y our budget to the GPU as you can without picking a completely garbage CPU. Most gaming performance differences have been artificially created by turning graphics way down and chasing absurd frame rates because the GPU bottlenecks most everything so quickly.

Running a Zen 1 part was significantly limiting. Any upgrade past Zen 2 / Comet Lake is difficult to justify unless you're looking for very high refresh gaming, and these parts seem likely to remain good enough for this console generation.

Picking the 5600G over the i5 11400 is an error in my opinion, unless you really need strong(er) integrated graphics or an upgrade path. The i5 is cheaper and has better performance.

The article is not really that good. It recommends 12900K as the ultimate gaming CPU when the 12700K costs $180 less and is like 1% slower, which is really a margin of error.

ID: hlrt55oIt should definitely figure on that list somewhere. It beats a Ryzen 5900X and 5950X in gaming and hangs with the 12900K. I don’t know why everyone always sleeps on the I7 in every release. They are always the gaming cpus to get in any generation.
ID: hlsyc0412900k should have higher 1% 0,1%. Which makes it smoother for gaming probably. Still very little difference though.

I find it odd that the article totally omits 11400 as the best budget CPU at the moment for gamers. It is absolutely no contest on that front as you get very close to 5600X gaming performance for less than half the price.

All core performance is 28% better and single core is 23% better.
ID: hlteuhbWithin margin of error, just like 10700 vs 11700. The 10400 gets a bad rep because it launched with b460 boards that locked ram at 2666. With b560, xmp is fully supported, but you don't get pcie 4.0 and that usually means 1 less functional m2 slot.

if you don't look silly gaming cpu comparatives at 720p or 480p low setting paired with 6900XT, today any recent 6 core with multi thread is just fine from 1080P maxed to 4K: when the difference is 20fps in the 100 range, the gaming experience is the same 90 or 110 fps
you have to spend extra money only if you have to play some 200fps+ game, but at that point it's better to spend that extra in the GPU

5900 surely single clocks over 5950 still insane spec for when your working.
