So I came into work this morning and find an email saying one of our second shift workers passed away from Covid complications. His name was Scott and he was a nice guy. We used to talk all the time about guns and video games. We talked all the time about RDR2. It hit me pretty hard this morning. I think tonight when I get home, after I put my kids to bed, I'm gonna pour myself a shot or two of whiskey, sit down, load up Red Dead, and just ride. I'll ride and ride and cause as much trouble as I can. I'll hoot and holler every mile as the law chases me down. This ride's for you Scott. Outlaws for life.
EDIT: Damn, I didn't expect this to blow up like it has. I honestly was just putting some thoughts down kind of in a "thinking-out-loud" sort of way. Thank you to everyone for all the kind words. In the sea of console wars and multiplayer toxicity we sometimes forget that gaming brings us together. We need more positivity, especially in these times.

RIP
Sorry for your loss, thoughts with you and his family.
Enjoy that whiskey and ride ... he'll be with you.

That’s a really cool thing to do man. Good on you, and a nice reminder of what the gaming community could and should be all about. I’ve been in a gaming funk just flipping between game and game not getting enjoyment out of anything lately. Cool way to remember your friend. Give em hell for him

People kinda look down upon it
But Games have been such a beautiful way to connect with people
I've heard multiple stories of strong friendships initiated by multiplayers
I, myself got some friends that love to discuss gaming and even played and bonded over RDR2 at the same time
Even here on reddit though rarely but you do find bunch of communities and users positivity celebrating the joy that is gaming
They do become a part of your life and I'll be so sad to find out if that part doesn't exist anymore
So RIP to your friend, tip your hat out for him and remember the good times you both shared
ID: hmtkrtvOh, for sure. Gaming is 100% one of the best things in my life. It saved my ass during covid, and still continues to do so when socializing irl is too much. I couldn't socialize back in 2020, and I felt myself detaching further and further from society. Meeting some awesome people on there just to laugh with has undoubtedly saved more people's sanities than judt mine.. It's truly a beautiful creation.

You need a soundtrack
Ghost riders
The last cowboy
Man of constant sorrow
Oh death
Bad company
Not really a country fan so I had to go with the country/cowboy songs I knew.
EDIT: I had to add the most heart tugging end credits I've ever sat through Days Gone
You'll always be my brother
Stay strong gamer bro. I dont need to know you, to know you.
ID: hmtg2yqAlso this.
ID: hmtnqokAlso this.
ID: hmtg981Also, I know it's from a different game, but play Port Sulphur Band's soundtrack for Hunt: Showdown
ID: hmtlzqcDon’t forget Far Away from the first Red Dead Redemption.
ID: hmtq6oeAdd highwayman to it Johnny cash It's perfect for tonight's ride
ID: hmtjfodWhat do you guys think about "Riders on the storm", Snoop Dog cover or original the Doors.
Might it be appropriate?

My game related story. My mom was in a comma years back, talking like 2004. She was in the hospital for months. My dad wasn’t around much because he wanted to be at the horoitsl or would stay at my uncles, who lived much closer to the hospital then we did. He tried the best he could to keep us together though so no blame there. He made sure I was ok and had what I needed and would stop home everyday. But basically, I was at home a lot by myself. I poured myself into Tony Hawks Underground. Like, that game alone kept me sane for a good stretch of that time of my life. It’s amazing how much of an impact video games can have for people.
RIP to Scott.

Sorry for your loss ❤️

It doesn't matter console or platform you game on, gaming truly does bring everyone together, and that's something not a lot of people realize. RIP Scott. He seemed like a great guy. Have a beautiful ride.

When my buddy passed from covid complications last year I changed my steam name to his and played some cod for him like we used to all the time. Sorry for your loss, I think it’s really beautiful the way you’re honoring their memory.

RIP Scott, I'll name my next badass son in CK3 after you. Condolences to you OP.
-
Do everything you can to honour you friend. My clan did something similar for one that passed. We play his favourite game together every year in his name.
-
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Saddle up and ride.
-
My love is with you.
I wish people (where I live in the US) would stop pretending covid isn't real...
And pour one out for your buddy too!
-
I am sorry for your loss, this goes to show that you two are indeed outlaws for life and I am proud of you guys.

Sorry for your loss. Covid stinks.

I feel teary now. RIP Scott. It is so sad when cool, good guys leave first. Unfortunately I only encountered toxic people in the gaming communities that i frequent so I rarely engage now but i bonded with my siblings through videogames and the happiest moments in my life were with them, playing games. I made it through this covid nightmare thanks to games.
-
I'm sorry to hear he's gone. That sounds like a fitting tribute to him.

Get vaxxed and wear masks, or die and/or contribute to the deaths of others.
One is a nice achievement/trophy, the other is a perma ban.
