- Deviation Games now have a second team based in Canada, perhaps SIE is liking what they see so far.

These are the old call of duty guys?
ID: htmhcouID: htmhbweThey've worked on Zombies for cod
ID: htqar0wMore than just Zombies.
ID: htoc2uxMaybe they are creating a new multiplayer arena fps for Playstation, since CoD will be a Xbox franchise a few years from now?
ID: htoev7gThat would be dope!
ID: htpco6jI heard it's a multiplayer but not sure if it's an fps. Mostly likely it is though..
ID: htr058eI would say "plz killzone" but it would be interesting to see something new.

Nice they are expanding fast. Wondering of one team is doing an FPS multiplayer game and the other is doing that action RPG game
ID: htmrisiThey are likely working on the same game together with the Canadian studio. Having a second development space outside of California is a great way to rapidly scale up recruitment.
My prediction is that Sony has looked at the trend from major publishers and has noticed all their MP games are going F2P and much like when the big publishers downsized their singleplayer efforts, Sony are going to fill their shoes again. This is especially important because PS+ is a major revenue generator. So they need games like Destiny, The Division, Left for Dead, Borderlands, Grounded, Sea of Thieves and Monster Hunter which are all highly replayable premium titles.
In my view, this explains why Sony has targeted developers behind games such as Call of Duty, Destiny and Rainbow 6.
ID: htph5z7Except they stated they are doing an action rpg with their recent hiring position
ID: htsozg9There's no indication they are working on an action RPG, just that its story based and they are hiring a writer with experience in those genre.

How many developers do Deviation games employ? If they come up with a hit Sony would be smart in buying this studio that can make quality fps.
ID: htmv8qwThey were over 100 developers by June of last year, and they are growing rapidly.
ID: hto5p4hThey were at about 100-110 at the end of 2021 and currently 26 open positions.

I hope Sony won’t mess around if the game is good and just acquire the studio to have shooters again.
Tencent be watching with binoculars.
I’m assuming it’s a shooter so.
ID: htn0xozI think those deals that Sony makes usually have a buyout clause in case the game is a hit.
ID: htmt45aSony usually owns the IP when it's a PS exclusive
ID: htmukmsI mean the devs since current sony first party seems to move away from fps.
-
Two things about this. 1) Sony has real faith in the project to help them expand the studio before they've even shown the public anything and 2) Sony wants to accelerate production on this and just gave another cash dump to make it happen. The timing is way too suspect. This news so freaking good.
ID: hton488Really good news. If it’s an fps, I hope it brings something fresh. Battlefield and CiD have been stale for years, especially with CoD pushing battle passes and cosmetics harder than gameplay.
ID: htriuj5I mean, you don't greenlight expansion like this in a matter of days. People expecting answers from Sony because of Tuesday... No company will be that reactionary.
Not least because Sony would have known about the possibility of COD going exclusive months back, when Kotick was asking around if other publishers would be interested in bidding for AB.
-
Odd their website says they're only hiring for Los Angeles. I'm just curious WHERE in Canada they are... it's kinda a big place.
ID: hto5en7Probably Montreal, virtually the entire Canadian gaming industry is there.
ID: htpdfl1A few studios are in Toronto as well, but yes likely this is Montreal. I'm disappointed that they say they are hiring yet don't have any actual info on LinkedIn
-
Maybe a counter to COD?
ID: htn93czI would expect a big zombies type of game. Think cod zombies but on a larger scale
ID: hto2v9fPersonally, I highly doubt it’d be focused on zombies. That would be the 3rd zombie game under PlayStation, and I’m pretty sure Days Gone being second to Last of Us had some factor in it being rejected for a sequel.
ID: hto5gz2I could definitely see it being that on a full game scale.
ID: htrju58It might not even in first person.
What the leads worked on in the past doesn't mean that's all they will work on in the future.
One of their job listings is looking for mission design experience in RPGs.
Designer who's written and scripted quest and mission content in AAA single-player or multiplayer RPGs/Action/story games.

Good guy Sony helping build up studios and new franchises and actually adding something to the gaming landscape!
ID: htrjz33This post won't age very well if by this time next year Sony announces they acquired someone like Square Enix.
-
Oh daddy Blundel we've missed you
-
It would be smart for Sony to help them expand, especially in light of recent events.
-
Omg, the job description sounds so exciting, I really wonder what it could be
-
Sony will try even harder now to compete with Xbox that will be good
-
This studio is loaded with talent, wish they’d make battlefront 3

[deleted]
ID: hto8ew3Other than a text message saying his coworker can’t marry everyone and a picture of him in a room. Have there actually been any complaints levied about him? Otherwise wouldn’t this purely be “guilt by association?
Would love some more details.
ID: htoq5y3Apparently the guy left 2 months ago. Maybe he was fired since it would be odd to leave for no reason as one of the studio heads since he’s now just freelancing.

I think...after this game flops critically and commercially that Sony will be able to buy this studio from the bargain bin like they did HouseMarque
