What a busy news week.
We're going to re-open a Megathread on the Microsoft + Activision/Blizzard discussion, in light of the recent tweet from Phil Spencer regarding Microsoft's "desire to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation".
Because this topic has been so fluid and is developing in real-time, we'll also be making this a live chat megathread, so you can all chat about the topic in real-time.
We're taking down the Recommendations Megathread for the time being, and will be using our 2 active sticky megathread slots to accommodate this Microsoft + Activison/Blizzard + Call of Duty live chat, as well as 2021 Wrap-Up Sharing.
As per Rule #8, any new posts that are duplicate topics of these active megathreads are subject to removal.
Thanks!

I’m kinda scared for the industry as a whole if Microsoft owns to much they’ll become lazy and games will get worse overall
ID: htity9fID: htiu8ktI think it’ll see a recession but not a crash
-
Sony should just let gamepass on playstation. Like, do something good for the players for once
-
Blizzard Activison and Zenimax was already lazy / no effort
-
and CoD deal, its like with Deathloop and Tokyo Ghostwire
current and not future projects
or will the franchise keep living on PS?
ID: htixicdSony renewed their advertisement contract with Activision for COD in 2020 for all we know there could be a requirement for a certain number of those games to make it to the platform. Could be a similar situation with death loop certainly no one here can answer that

as publisher and console
-
Should I be concerned as a COD player and PlayStation enthusiast? Because I am
-
elon musk should buy AB for 80b, and make cod an exclusive for tesla vehicles
-
that's a new part of Gamepass, used for streaming on mobile or playing games prior to download. Gamepass allows installation of games locally
-
You guys need to hop on game pass asap. Haven't bought a game since March 2021

Personally I think Microsoft is overpaying for declining studios while sony has been actively purchasing studios in their prime. Sony is also focusing on studios they already built a relationship with. So far, I’m still far more interested in sony exclusives and direction.
As someone with disposable income, I could see myself picking up an Xbox later down the line if there is an exclusive I really want to play but so far nothing really checks that mark. We’ll see with starfield but it could go either way.

PS5 owner.
Sony are just outdated at this point. Need to merge PS plus and PS now into game pass and give us what Xbox are easily delivering to their customers!
-
They could end up using it as a catalyst to get rid of exclusives. All games on both consoles. Depends on the profits
-
Microsoft wont be able to buy anything else for a good while. Probably under investigation for the stunt they just did.
ID: htkxuwnThought I'd check out this subreddit for entertainment. I knew I'd find some comments to laugh at.

Honestly, this isn't really something people should be worried about. To this day, people aren't talking about past playstation consoles because it had "Call of Duty" or "Diablo", nah, they remember playstation for Legends of Dragoon, Uncharted, the Last of Us, God of War, and a massive array of other exclusives. If anything, this may push Sony to start releasing more console exclusives.
-
Sony rammed up the exclusivity war last ten years and now its a trainwreck
ID: htiroo8360 was doing this before PS4 or Xbox One were even a thing. People actually need to pay attention to history
-
Why do we need a mega thread for this BS? just ban all the trolls
-
Bluepoint, Bend, Firesprite, Nixxes, Housemarque and Valkyrie Entertainment have been acquired by Sony recently, so same practice more or less...
ID: htij85hThe money isnt even remotely equal. I have no issue with the move but comparing Bethesda/Activision to those studios is being facetious. One just cost 69 billion.
ID: htij9g9Nice!
ID: htijaovExcept all these studios were practically only making games for ps instead of multiplat, not even comparable
-
I bet Sony would make a major investment now if they could
-
I vote socialist but thats capitalism, same law Sony abides to
-
well lets see what will happen... all eyes on sony now
-
COD PS ?
-
most all will be exclusive
-
Read the tweet man
-
gotcha
-
how nice of Spencer hhaha
-
well happy end for us all then
-
GG guys
-
/return to GoW on pc
-
ONE GAME I DONT KNOW WHY I BOUGHT A PS5 WITH NO GAMES TO BUY
-
I am talking last ten years. And Sony, but much more their fans, they really weaponized exclusives and mocked everyone else for not having this wonderful platform hahha
-
when will new Sony game pass come out?
-
lets not talk aboyt that riddler
-
have some courtesy
-
they defo needed new leadership
-
like they could make Deathloop DLC PC/Xbox exclusive
-
but had to honor the initial release
-
and future Bethesda releases are exclusive
-
yeah lots of speculation we can only see what happened to Bethesda,
I guess it will happen to ActiBlizz as well, but guesswork...
-
and Deathloop / Ghostwire was judicial, the agreement
-
Personally I see this move as MS trying to reclaim being the dominating force in the fps genre, because despite the quality(or lack there of) of more recent COD games they are a big part of the fps genre. Keep in mind Xbox has yet to win a generation of consoles. With Halo not pulling as much as it did in the past(Infinite did do well, but not as well as the past) and Sony putting out several shooters making them dominant in third person shooter genre. Xbox in a sense is trying to control the fps genre(and not just COD, it’s reasonable to assume overwatch 2 may fall into the Starfield/Elder Scrolls route). Will it works? That remains to be seen and while I can understand the “desire” to be more competitive with exclusives due to last gens weak exclusives(not saying they were bad, saying there weren’t enough). Buying dying studios and reworking them may not be the best option. I just hope this doesn’t start a video games arm race to buyout companies.

Fucking blizzard, what a sell out

For a long time there was no possibility of a second crash now it's all but guaranteed
