- [RedGamingTech] AMD Super Resolution DOUBLES Performance
-
I trust "up to.." as much as I trust "Starting at ..$"
ID: gq4x8lhID: gq72yklI trust AMD's "up to", were pretty spot on (e.g. SAM gains).
I don't trust random youtubers though.
And I'm sceptcal about "magical upscaling" in general.
ID: gq50vf8If this is as reliable as AMD's benchmark slides at their RDNA 2 and Zen3 reveal event, then I'll treat these claims as dubious at best.
ID: gq5qzgpWell, with the magic of DLSS according to reddit, with DLSS 1.5 which was based on shaders, a geforce 8300 from 2006 can do quad monitor ultra widescreen 16K 250Hz with RT on ultra and all other settings on ultra...

And here I was watching this video wondering if I should post it.
TL;DW
Super Resolution requires to be programmed into the engine, either by game or engine devs Up to Double performance seen in the games testing this functionality in an Alpha state. NVidia Adds DLSS into Unreal Engine as a plugin 7nm to 5nm not appearing to be viable for the likes of a PS5 Pro Sony has booked time with AMD's custom solution team (E.g.; Semi-Custom designs/console) to review options; Potentially for PS5 slim on 3nm. Appears to be movement to 5nm - SweClockers Silicon capacity 2021 per Month 7nm 140,000 5nm 105,000 (Apple >50%) 3nm 30,000 Silicon capacity 2023-24 per Month 7nm 160,000 5nm 160,000 3nm 105,000 (Apple to begin moving to 3nm?)
Please remember, if you enjoy seeing these pieces of news/speculation/rumors to load the video and provide an upvote, or even downvote if you call BS. Analytics really helps youtubers.
ID: gq53wtpI take those capacity numbers are wafers? How many usable chips per wafer if that's the case?
ID: gq5iw0jSuper Resolution requires to be programmed into the engine, either by game or engine devs
Yikes, did not think they would go that route aswell. I was hoping for a system that works in every game.
ID: gq64aw7Apple 5N is ~80K WPM last I saw. So they have almost all of it. TSMC is scheduled to improve to 120K starting in Q2, and 140K by 2H this year.
ID: gq6wvdi7nm to 5nm not appearing to be viable for the likes of a PS5 Pro
???
No way they'd release refreshes so early. My bet its at least gonna be 4-5 years in the life cycle of console and on a node that offers significant advantages compared to 7nm.
With the cost of redesigning and back porting being that high on bleeding edge nodes, I don't see consoles moving down the node unlike previous generations
ID: gq7302yIs AMD's upscaling cross-platform or AMD GPUs only?
ID: gq6t6r9Super Resolution requires to be programmed into the engine, either by game or engine devs
It's dead on arrival in other words.

Well it doesn't say much. Put DLSS on ultra performance and it will quadruple frames but they won't look good.
ID: gq4e11aYeah, I think up sampling is amazing for going up 1 step in resolution, with a step being like 1080p -> 1440p -> 2160p, it's a great boost in performance without sacrificing picture quality, but beyond that it's not very worth it.
ID: gq4lgnqYeah, it's very doubtful that AMD is getting a better performance increase from their 1st gen upsampling tech than Nvidia is getting with their 2nd gen unless it's with decreased quality. "Up to double performance" likely means that you have to set it to the lowest quality to get that, kind of like how you can get up to double performance by setting FidelityFX CAS as low as 50%, but no one ever does that.
ID: gq5i9j7My experience with Cyberpunk 2077 says something different, where I only gained 2x performance with Ultra Performance.
ID: gq72by5quadruple frames but they won't look good.
It does not. Even if you use 1/4 the resolution you do not quadruple the FPS. This *never* happens since some things are fixed and dont move with resolution, such as geometry for example. This is also why 4K is between 2 and 3.5 times harder to run than 1080p, not 4 times harder to run.
-
the Doubles performance metric is kinda shitty because it doesn’t exactly tell us how good the picture remains. For example DLSS implementations range from amazing to borderline good/okay, and for different resolutions/games/etc it has different outcomes.
It’s hard to really quantify
-
That channel seems full of baseless speculation.
ID: gq4w1d6He nailed RDNA2 having a massive L3 cache. He has real sources, that much is clear.
But this video was quite weak. Nothing special really. FidelityFX Super Resolution pretty much has to work with some kind of upsampling done with low precision instructions. Then a sharpening filter gets applied. AMD already has a good sharpening filter and that probably explains the existing tech being enhanced.ID: gq6ul4kHe got basically everything right about RDNA2, including lots of stuff nobody else was leaking/guessing.
-
So when you cut resolution in half, performance doubles? Color me surprised!!
-
Please NO more HYPE! result can be disappointed.
-
Until it works in VR I don't care.
ID: gq5b2pfDlss works in vr but no games use it yet
ID: gq5vkvfDLSS + foveated rendering is gonna be so awesome
-
yes, but can it save me 15% or more on car insurance?
ID: gq51g81It customizes your graphics settings, so you only pay for what you need.
-
Wait is super resolution a 6000 series exclusive or do 5000 series GPU's get it as well?
ID: gq5kpc0Well.. how often do companies go back and add their new features to old products that have already been paid for
-
Cutting the rendering resolution by half, doubles performance? Well of course it does.
The actual point of contention is the quality of the upscaling.
-
Performance claims are useless without knowing image quality.
-
Anything related to Radeon rumors needs to be taken with a grain of salt. They are typically founded in truth, but exaggerated to the point where it disappoints most people.
-
doesn't need to be better then dlss, it just needs to work on more then just 5 graphics cards lol.
-
well.. yeah... rendering stuff at a lower resolution tends to do that
-
Well, the performance uplift doesn´t matter if the image quality is garbage. I´d rather have a smaller performance uplift while keeping the image quality as close to native as possible.
-
1440p is 2.2 times less pixels than 4k.
Image quality is what the focus should be on.
-
You know it's true because it's from RedGamingTech. He never gets anything wrong!!!!
-
Double the performance, but with 0% availability. Yaaay.
-
Never trust words double performance or double profits or double benefits
ID: gq6nqbmBut double ray tracing power ?
-
The mother of all clickbaits.
-
lol is this the RdNa 3 on ps5?
-
Oh this is hype! Post this in
it’ll piss some of those people off for sure!ID: gq4qq28Not one damn bit. Better AMD does, better everyone does. In the absence of the silicon shortage this would be met with glee over there. Right now, every nVidiot and AMDumbass is all cut from the same cloth and superfanism is dead.

"up to.."
guarantied to be no more then...
