Learn to love what you have

Back in February 2020 i had to make a decision. The processor i had wasnt cutting it so i had 2 choices, buy the ryzen 3600 who was alredy 6-7 months old or wait for the ryzen 5600 not knowing release date beyond it was a 2020 launch. My thought was Zen 2 is a pretty big jump from Zen 1, how much can they improve the design again? so i just bought the 3600 as i needed something asap.

Turns out they could improve a lot, so much that when i saw the benchmarks for ryzen 5600 i was pretty upset about my purchase and began feeling like i made a poor choice. I just had to wait few months, i just had to be patient.

Fast forward March 2021. Where i live the ryzen 5600xt simply doesnt exists, and when it happears from time to time it cost up to 150% from what i paid for my ryzen 3600. Economics aside, i realized how lucky im for having this cpu. I have never complained about the performance of it, it never chokes no matter what i throw at it.

I went from always wanting the lastest and greatest to just apathy from new releases, if the thing does his job thats all matters to me now. I will look into an upgrade 2-3 years down the line.

I already love what I have... it's just that I still have so much love to give...

I have an old used GTX 770. I really do need something new.

Im sticking to my rx570 until it dies, i refuse paying nowdays crazy prices.

To be fair, the PS4 is about as fast as a 770, so if you're okay with playing at console levels of graphics and framerates, a 770 is fine.

I had the same situation, I was on a core i5 3570k for years. I kept putting off an upgrade because neither Intel or AMD were doing anything that seemed like enough of an upgrade for $600+. This is considering I would have to get a new mobo, ram, case, and ssd.

End of 2019 I got a 3600 and I'm so glad I bought it then and didn't wait any longer.

New releases doesn’t make old hardware bad! Eventually it’ll show it’s age and you’ll upgrade them. No biggie. So long as it can do what your asking no worries. Some people have disposable income and this is all they spend their money on and they upgrade every year, that’s fine let them. But most can’t keep building a $2000 pc every year. You made the right choice

Edit: now I would NOT suggest someone buying the 3600 today with a 5600x available. I also suggest people buying 8 core CPUs so they can hold them longer and weirdly Intel has the better deal on these right now as the 5800x is oddly priced

Intel has the better deal cause somehow they need to sell their "old" tech.
Before ryzen they could dictate the prices but now its the other way around.

Get Decent cooler on it and us2e pbo with offset to hit 4.4 - its a great CPU!

Yeah, old hyper evo 212 works just fine with this little one.

Ah...easing into lowered expectations. lol

Agree 100%. That's why I upgraded from the 3700x and B450 board to the 5900x and X570. Haven't been happier. The performance and snappiness of the new architecture is phenomenal.

My 1600x is still doing fine in 1080p paired with a Rx 5700. Money's not worth it for just 5 fps ( Going to 3600 ).

I bought a 3700x because i didn't know when the new gen would be back in stock and I really don't regret it, I'll just upgrade a little earlier this time around

I love my GTX 970s, don't get me wrong, but I'd love a new GPU still.

I managed to upgrade my system and get the important bits at msrp (5950x, 3080FE), suffice to say I'm a happy camper. But yeah, I hear what you're saying, there's no point in upgrading every generation.

My previous system lasted me almost 9 years (early 2012 until late 2020) only doing a single gpu upgrade and adding some ssd storage over the years.

Also: I'm very happy I bought the components when I did and didn't listen to the "you should wait until the release of the amd gpus/ intel 11th gen" crowd. I'd be screwed if I'd done that lol.
