5600x for $279 + $20 bundle savings at Microcenter, should I buy?

1 : Anonymous2021/03/12 14:35 ID: m3isof

So at Microcenter, they've dropped the price of the 5600x by $20. And, as far as I believe (can someone confirm this please?) you get $20 bundle savings with a compatible motherboard on top of that.

This seems like a great deal to me, and I was planning on building a 5600x / 3060ti setup when stuff goes on sale, so should I buy this? The only thing I don't know is if the price represents the possible bundle savings or it's a straight-up cut, meaning you could buy this for $259.99 with a MoBo.

UPDATE THAT ISNT RELATED TO THE POST: HOT DAMN I ALMOST GOT A 3060TI FE FROM BEST BUY AN HOUR AGO BUT IT SOLD OUT WHILE I WAS LOGGING IN :/

absolutely

ID: gqpq0dg

I’m jealous. Cheapest I’ve seen one is 370€.

ID: gqpq6wq

Really? In the US, Amazon has them in stock fairly regularly for $299. In fact I ordered one Tuesday. Only problem is it won’t be here till the 29th

ID: gqpzd6s

In Germany the normal stock price is down to 330€, where eo you live?

ID: gqq99vm

most places ive seen online sell for around 310 euro

ID: gqqeqdv

Jeez I snagged mine for £266 in January here in the UK.

ID: gqqro9o

$240 here.

ID: gqrxr3z

Im pretty sure almost all us prices are without taxes, while here in eu all prices show with taxes included. So ~250$ can in reality mean 300-320€ depending on the country. Still good though.

ID: gqs4gxb

Ive bought an i9 10900k due to this. The mobo+cpu combo was cheaper on intel than ryzen 5000 series

3 : Anonymous2021/03/12 14:53 ID: gqp0x80

yes. go for it

4 : Anonymous2021/03/12 15:14 ID: gqp3kg0

Yeah, go for it. Have you got a GPU already though? Because that CPU doesn't come with video and at the moment it seems impossible to get a GPU.

ID: gqp4xkf

Right now I don't, but my plan was to just gradually wait for things to go on sale over the next couple of months and buy it, so I'm not in a rush.

Basically I can wait to get a GPU (hopefully a 3060 or 3060ti that matches with my white build).

ID: gqpbjig

Then, wait for CPU as well. It is much harder to get a GPU than a CPU. You can buy the CPU any time. There is no point in parking your money on a CPU and losing the warranty at the same time. CPUs are easily available at MSRP.

ID: gqp6ks1

So your plan is to get a 5600x and not use it? Just keep it for later until you can buy a GPU? Sorry but I think that's not a good idea, these things age pretty quickly. Better to keep the money and buy when you can get a full system, they may release new CPUs anytime now.

5 : Anonymous2021/03/12 15:03 ID: gqp29qe

Yes

6 : Anonymous2021/03/12 16:17 ID: gqpbvxi

The Microcenter gods have blessed my area and I shall make this pilgrimage this weekend for a 5600x and new MOBO. And a sweet $20 bundle apparently lol

Do it.

Edit: I have returned from the holy land, and it was good.

7 : Anonymous2021/03/12 15:10 ID: gqp350i

I love my 5600x, I went from a 2700x and it’s a huge difference. Definitely recommend it

ID: gqpa5xj

Were you concerned about going from an eight core to a six core? I had the hardest time deciding between a 5600X and 5800X, and even if my budget could stretch without problems, there just wasn't any real objective evidence for why I should spend extra just because I could for gaming.

ID: gqpik4d

The 5600x has around 15% higher clock speed and ~33% higher IPC for around 50% more performance per core.

On an MT basis, he's getting an MT upgrade along with a sizeable ST upgrade going form 2700x -> 5600x.

Heck the 5600x gives the 3700x a run for the money in MT loads.

ID: gqpkwmj

Hardly a concern when the 5600X is faster even in multithreaded apps. For gaming and single threaded workloads, it's not even a contest, Zen 3 wipes the floor with Zen+.

Of course I'm assuming you're CPU bound (high FPS/Competitive gaming or just brute force some poorly optimized games (MMORPGs, flight/racing sims, etc)

ID: gqpfj2n

For gaming, they're gonna perform pretty much equal. Maybe 1-3 more fps on the 5800x but you're not gonna notice that. The only reason to go 5800x is if you also do a lot of video/photo editing or 3D modeling/animation.

ID: gqqzj2y

For gaming the 5800x is not economical, assuming MSRP. The FPS difference is negligible and not worth the extra $150

8 : Anonymous2021/03/12 16:22 ID: gqpcl5z

Its a no brainer

9 : Anonymous2021/03/12 17:54 ID: gqpp2vi

I just did it to upgrade from the mc $80 2600x. With a combo deal with the asus x470 prime it was $60 lmao.

The x470 can support the 5600x when flashed so I got a cheap msi matx mobo for the $20 combo with the 5600x for the 2600x to go into for an htpc upgrade. $55 mobo. Why not.

Im still going to be bottlenecked by my 4gb gamingx 480x but shit even with the 2600x Im pulling 80+ fps in warzone and mw.

This may not be a huge fps gain for me but its futureproofing and if I snag a 6700xt I’ll have a killer “budget” rig. Although I have to enter myself in for the running of best budget build in history for what I have now: a $165 480x that ive been using for 5 years + $60 2600x. Cmon now.

Also Im on a custom loop. Might try overclocking the 5600x more than just the boosted speeds idk.

Also the 5600x will never drop lower than $250. Ever. And even at $280 its probably the best bang for your buck gaming cpu ever, maybe second only to, again, the $80 2600x.

Id just buy it. Theyre in stock. I think my mc had like 350 of them.

ID: gqqer3u

Best bang for buck? Have you seen the price of the 10400F at the minute?

ID: gqr8cnq

with GPU's the way they are the 10100 and 10400 non F seem more viable due to included igpu.

10 : Anonymous2021/03/12 20:03 ID: gqq5z90

I'd just be glad they've got the 5600X in stock! It's been a hard CPU to get because it's very desirable. It has a great price/performance ratio. I got mine on Launch Day, but it took a lot of time and persistence.

11 : Anonymous2021/03/12 18:07 ID: gqpqq7b

Lol, not even a week after I bought my 3700X, MC has both the 3700X and 5600X for $20 cheaper...

Though, the ASUS TUF B550M Plus WiFi I bought is $20 more expensive...

I guess it's a wash?

12 : Anonymous2021/03/12 20:47 ID: gqqbjns

5600x 3060ti gang

13 : Anonymous2021/03/13 02:15 ID: gqrc491

What? I was at micro center two days ago and it still cost me $299 -_____-

Edit: Just spoke with customer support and they're refunding me the $20, sweet. Thanks for posting this. I'm also not surprised, you could build a skyscraper out of the pile of 5600x chips Microcenter is sitting on.

14 : Anonymous2021/03/13 04:10 ID: gqrnmb2

Short answer: Yes

Long answer: Yes, you should.

15 : Anonymous2021/03/12 16:28 ID: gqpddgk

Id look at the x570 tomahawk, I changed my Asus for that one after long and long researched and it’s the best bang for buck, love it and perform really well with my 5800x, also have my ram at 3800/1900 cl14 (b die of course)

*keep in mind that the MSI software Dragon center, is trash. I suggest you only instal mystic light for your RGB control

ID: gqqxzf9

Or skip that and go with OpenRGB, which is adding MSI mobo support back soon.

16 : Anonymous2021/03/12 23:21 ID: gqqtxhv

I got mine for $299 at microcenter 2 weeks ago. If you are getting a mobo anyway, def do the deal! Twenty bucks is twenty bucks... I was fortunate to have bought an x470 a while back, and with a bios upgrade, I was able to swap my 2600x for the 5600x without a new mobo!

17 : Anonymous2021/03/13 00:14 ID: gqqzl61

Yes.

18 : Anonymous2021/03/13 04:15 ID: gqro3zv

Yes, especially with scalping you definitely should buy it!

19 : Anonymous2021/03/13 06:29 ID: gqryw50

It’s $20 cheaper than Amazon, even before any bundle discount, so pull the trigger if the Micro Center isn’t too far a drive.

20 : Anonymous2021/03/13 11:22 ID: gqsg42g

I may be odd person out here, but personally for better future proofing I would go for 5800X. Yes more money, but that puppy will last you a longer time in my option where then maybe in a few year you do an upgrade to maybe a future 3070ti or Super or something.

21 : Anonymous2021/03/12 15:09 ID: gqp2xk1

Yes

22 : Anonymous2021/03/12 16:38 ID: gqperrm

Yes! Which microcenter?!

ID: gqpgpjl

The one closest to me is Cambridge, MA, but pretty sure this is across all of them?

23 : Anonymous2021/03/12 16:38 ID: gqpes8i

I have a 5600x and 3060ti, it rips. Definitely a good deal.

24 : Anonymous2021/03/12 16:57 ID: gqphaba

sure

25 : Anonymous2021/03/12 16:59 ID: gqphomv

YEP

26 : Anonymous2021/03/12 18:12 ID: gqprfkl

I bought one for $299USD(~$397CAD) from B&H Photo who ships to Canada on the weekend and I thought that was a great price considering they are going for $450-$470CAD here when they are in stock. That is a really great price.

27 : Anonymous2021/03/12 18:21 ID: gqpsn8d

Does microcentre sells overseas?

ID: gqptyu5

Unfortunately no, it's an american thing

28 : Anonymous2021/03/12 18:27 ID: gqptgxh

yes amazing deal

29 : Anonymous2021/03/12 18:35 ID: gqpukri

Why would you not?

30 : Anonymous2021/03/12 18:42 ID: gqpvipk

Do it, you will not regret it. Which mainboard do you think you will buy?
