[GN] AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT GPU Review: Literally Anything Will Sell

Lol. "It's fine..."

ID: gr983sv

Yea, the title makes it sound very negative.

ID: gr9aep2

The title fits his conclusion. It's stagnation. It's performance uplift over a 5700xt matches it's price increase.

ID: gr99kdj

Good old clickbait

When I saw the specs, I said this card would be underwhelming. It got downvoted of course. My rig is all AMD, I am no AMD hater. It is just, this card was released for a market with a total GPU shortage and no way to enforce MSRP. Selling the card at $300 would do nothing to prices, and simply cause AMD to get less cut. It's cut down to minimize cost and maximize stock in a market with a severe GPU shortage. It's MSRP is meaningless.

ID: gr8s2pq

A sad state of affairs. Really this should’ve been a 3060Ti competitor, but just like GN said, it doesn’t have to be good, have a compelling feature set, or have a unique design. It just has to exist. That’s all

I hope GPU hell ends soon

ID: gr8v8h4

Considering that 5700xt's have been selling out at $440 to $480, this GPU which is 20-30% faster is a good deal in that regard.

What GN left out is that had AMD priced this lower, either retail would jack up the price anyway (saving the consumer nothing) or consumers would be competing for a very fast moving inventory against scalpers.

I think they should have a program where they authorize a discount of say $100 (scaled up to say $250 for the 6900xt) when combined with a purchase of a CPU, MB and RAM. So at least new builders aren't screwed.

I've said it before, but I'm curious if they're fully exploiting their available 14nm and 12nm production to pump out 580s and 590s to keep the lowe

segment sane. It would be a missed opportunity if they're not.

Edit: Looks like a 5700xt is 76% the performance of the 6700xt which makes the 6700xt 31.6% faster on average.

ID: gr8ve5o

It's cut down to minimize cost and maximize stock in a market with a severe GPU shortage. It's MSRP is meaningless.

its not cutdown. its a full N22 chip. They made their choice for the spec years prior to its launch. We always knew about the big N21/N22 spec gap.

ID: gr8tlq6

This is

and Reddit. The only thing equal in downvotes is that they occur unequally to everyone.

It's MSRP is meaningless for AIBs and anyone else without special connections to AMD. You could sell this card for 750$, people would be extremely angry, sure... But some of them may cave in and buy the card while resenting the price anyways.

ID: gr9bemf

If I sold this card at €750 I'd have people calling me day and night to buy my whole stock... and nobody would complain because a 3060 starts at €850 from etailers.

ID: gr91qtd

Best card amd has made for 1080p and 1440p.

ID: gr8sjq7

When I said there's no point in this card and that it would be doa for consumers I also got down voted. the 3060ti just makes far more sense, and if you need the performance get a 3070.

The only way the 6700xt makes sense is if you're a Linux user or if it's msrp/available price is FAR lower then either Nvidia card.

ID: gr8trlg

There's 0 way AMD is going to make this product compelling with their current lineup anyway.

If 6700XT performs equal or better than 3070, it kills appeal of 6800. If it underperforms, it is DOA because 3070 will have more value. If 6700XT is priced at 400 or something, they don't have a direct 3070 competitor. No matter what they do, it's going to be bad.

ID: gr9im2v

The issue I have is that the only 3060Ti cards that I've seen come in stock recently were all partner cards that sell well above the base $400 price point, with some as high as $580 MSRP. Even 3060s are going up to $500 and that is a terrible price for that GPU.

If AMD is able to achieve what they claim they are going to and have both more stock at launch and also restock at the $480 MSRP every week on their website, that's a compelling reason to buy one of these if you really don't want to go above $500. NVidia seem to not be interested in restocking FE cards, and those are way cheaper than the partner models.

ID: gr92jw4

3060ti and 3070 are shit gpus due to the 8gb vram.

It's a joke the 3060 has more.

ID: gr932y8

The 5700 XT could trade blows and even surpass sometimes the 2070 and even the 2070 Super in some scenarios.

The 6700 XT can barely scratch the 3070. That's not an advance at all.

ID: gr8u36n

AMD can easily enforce MSRP through the AMD store. It remains to be seen whether AMD will stock the store sufficiently so that everyone who wants one can get one. The RX-6800/6800XT/and 6900XT are selling on the AMD store at MSRP--the problem is that the AMD store doesn't have any...;)

ID: gr8zo1j

Yeah but selling out to whom? Scalpers?

Some of it ends up in consumer hands, but a fair bit goes to scalpers and normal people end up being screwed anyway.

ID: gr90e5e

and that most chips go to AIB because that's higher margins for AMD regardless.

ID: gr8vj6m

I agree on the pricing, but I wouldn't say it's (that) underwhelming, kind of expected for basically a clock speed upgrade over a 5700XT.

ID: gr9f3g4

it's pretty underwhelming compared to the competition.

ID: gr97ncz

yeah, the "msrp" only mean the price that they will sell it at on amd.com

ID: grb0jky

Show me on the doll where the down votes touched you.

4 : Anonymous2021/03/17 18:54 ID: gr9n0oy

Right now I have a 5700XT in my machine. *IF* (ha! *if*) I could snag a 6700XT at or near MSRP tomorrow, I could get my £/fps upgrade then ebay the 5700XT for at least £600 if not more than the cost of both cards (some used 5700XTs ludicrously selling at £1k atm).

So on that twisted logic I benefit by getting more FPS AND will have paid little or nothing for a solid 1440P GPU. As the "better" 360Ti and 3070 remain mythical, I may as well try. I've lost nothing if/when I don't get a card, I gain if I do get a card.

ID: grall0h

£1000 for a 5700xt is absolutely bonkers, what the hell? I sold my 5700xt in September for ~£300 when I managed to get a 3080. I just can't fathom that it's gone up in value so much in 6 months

I'm actually getting tempted to sell my 3080 at this point. If people are stupid enough to be paying these prices then Im happy to take the cash. Have a feeling ill probably regret it at some stage though so I'm trying to hold out. Good luck hunting for the 6700xt tomorrow!

5 : Anonymous2021/03/17 17:05 ID: gr987ui

If you'd told me four years ago I'd now be hoping for Intel to get their shit together so competition returns to the markets for CPUs AND GPUs ... what kind of timeline are we in here??? Get me out!

ID: gr9blme

I think we'll see a decent 100% Made in China GPU available before Intel even starts moving in that direction.

ID: gr9han6

Intel is in the late stages of validating and performance testing a discrete GPU

Chinese manufacturers are several years and approximately $20B away from making a competitive fab, so I doubt that's happening any time soon. A single chinese company, SMIC, is making 14nm parts now but they're struggling pretty hard.

ID: grauki2

I hope Intel makes budget cards. The sub $200 market is begging for something decent.

6 : Anonymous2021/03/17 18:44 ID: gr9lrjh

My GTX 1060 is worth about 20% more than what I paid for it 5 years ago on the current secondhand market. This is after watching its secondhand value plummet to below half of MSRP just a little over 2 years ago.

So yes, literally anything will sell right now, as long as it can mine.

7 : Anonymous2021/03/17 20:33 ID: gra0axo

when he said that a 6700 will probably have the same performance of a 5700 XT for the same price, it all dawned on me

8 : Anonymous2021/03/17 18:30 ID: gr9ju50

Intel, hurry up and start making gaming GPUs

9 : Anonymous2021/03/17 15:18 ID: gr8ts32

Another badly priced featureless card, good job AMD,good fucking job.

ID: gr922a2

And AMD will sell... Every Single One Of Them.

That's the main takeaway from this video.

10 : Anonymous2021/03/17 17:25 ID: gr9axjn

At least the 3060 is a low power compute beast, doubling cuda and tensor performance.

ID: gr9l06y

3060 is a shit card that cant even beat the 2070. Shit performance and price.

ID: gr9nxym

Not every use is games or mining.

ID: grauv9m

The 3060 has roughly the same performance AND power consumption of the 2060 Super in games. There was little to no improvement from Ampere in that regard.

Compute performance is indeed better. Ampere is a beast in Blender. I think even the 3060 is faster than the Titan RTX.

11 : Anonymous2021/03/17 19:00 ID: gr9nxmn

So it's basically an overpriced slow card. Hmmm I didn't think AMD would fall into old behavior.

12 : Anonymous2021/03/17 18:59 ID: gr9nsbd

They should have just named this card the 5750XT.

13 : Anonymous2021/03/17 20:27 ID: gr9zi9t

I mean, when used 5700xt's are selling for upwards of $1000, if you can pick up one of these at near-msrp, you're doing really well

14 : Anonymous2021/03/17 20:31 ID: gr9zzuh

violent thoughts because you get one for free while there is 0 stock

15 : Anonymous2021/03/18 00:11 ID: graqw0u

Price of the card was 100% increased last minute (or last quarter I guess) to reflect market conditions. Both to ease demand (less people are willing to buy $500 GPUs), and make more money in the process. Basically keep increasing prices until you're at the point where you "just" sell out.

But not too much that it hurts your reviews and reputation. Anything above an RTX3070 would have done exactly that as it performs between the two and gets stopped in RT.

My theory in a normal, non-covid, non-crypto fueled market, the RTX3060 would have been around $280, and the 6700XT around $410.

cutdown downclocked 36 CU 14gbps , 6700 around $350,
