- CD Projekt has cancelled its standalone AAA Cyberpunk multiplayer game | VGC

I was wondering why there was a multiplayer staff section in the end credits...
EDIT: /
replied with a screenshot of it.ID: gswxl4pID: gsx2pftYeah, there are only four or five people listed, but it scrolls by during the end monologues.
ID: gsy7vawThose were seriously the longest credits I've ever sat through, in any type of media production. They thanked literally everyone I think, probably some doggos too
ID: gsyd5e9Reminds me of bioshock infinite that had a section of its credits that where notes by the staff. One was “we going hard into the streets in Sacramento or something like that. Made me laugh at the time.
ID: gsxqusfDid they credit an AI director? I’d love to know who got shafted with that title.

I'll be honest, I didn't even know that was going to be a thing.
ID: gsxco4cHahah same. I've played the singleplayer for about ten hours or so and thought it was fun but I'm waiting for the official PS5 version to get all the bugs ironed out. Multiplayer seems like it could be a cool idea but I get the feeling that's years away now.
ID: gsxtk48Are they really making a genuine, PS5 version of this game?

Rockstar's laughing all the way to the bank.
ID: gswsjt7Originally I thought Rockstar would be worried about Cyberpunk because it might replace GTA V or something, but looks like Rockstar wins again
ID: gswuxt8There was no way in hell it would have replaced GTAO even if it was good.
ID: gsx6zi9it would be very hard to top rockstar, even you gave a well known studio 500 million i doubt they can make a game as quality as rockstar games.
ID: gsxbfuoYou seriously think a company that had 3 open world games with horrible AI would be able to take down GTA ? The cyberpunk sub is congratulating the devs for implementing basic AI that makes cars drive around you
A feature that was in gta 1
ID: gswunl5Rockstar is 5 leagues ahead of CDPR. With Rockstar you know you‘ll get a masterpiece in your hands

While it seems that the big AAA multiplayer component isn’t happening right now, there is still going to be a cyberpunk multiplayer game at some point. I gotta agree with Paul Tassi’s analysis on this one. The endgame for cdpr is to have their own GTA online that just makes money forever. They wanna be rockstar very badly and aren’t giving up on that dream anytime soon
ID: gswmrljYes. Basically what it means is that standalone multiplayer Cyberpunk game is no more, however CDPR this time want to implement multiplayer into Cyberpunk 2077.
ID: gsx1m29I thought they were always planning on adding multiplayer to cyberpunk 2077.
ID: gswm59wYeah, a lot of people in this thread are misinterpreting the news as meaning there won't be any multiplayer for Cyberpunk at all. Sounds like it just won't be a standalone game. Honestly I had no idea they were even planning to treat it as a standalone game. I remember reading about how a separate team was working on some multiplayer component, but I just assumed it would be added to the existing game.
Really doesn't seem like a huge loss either way. If anything it means there's less of a chance to see the mode get scaled down or neutered (assuming they can find a way to integrate the mode into the existing game world and gameplay mechanics).
ID: gswmuu6They wanna be rockstar very badly
They can start by making a decent game
ID: gswnk1aOr at least by having the police system that Rockstar’s been using for like 20 years
ID: gswta04The endgame for cdpr is to have their own GTA online that just makes money forever.
Controversial opinion probably, but I want that too. GTA Online really tapped into something that doesn't quite exist anywhere else and it sucks Rockstar is just determined to make it a slog where even paying doesn't get you very far.
If they had some decent 1:1 competition maybe they'd actually make GTA:O fun from a grind perspective. But if CDPR can fix 2077 and get a way more stylized and responsive online mode out I'll be happy to play it. They could be half as aggressive about their microtransactions and still make a shit ton of money I'm sure.
GTA 6 may have a better product for online since it won't be built on the backbone of singleplayer like GTA:O but RDR:O shows they have no desire to back down on their aggressive grind.
ID: gswooh3It's the franchise. They did multiplayer and even mobile with Witcher too (Gwent).
So I think if they do cyberpunk multiplayer it will be probably something else than what we got with 2077. Probably something with way less development time and costs.

“Previously we hinted that our next triple-A would be a multiplayer Cyberpunk game, but we have decided to reconsider this now.
“Given our new more systematic and agile approach, instead of primarily focusing on one big online experience or game, we are focusing on bringing online into all of our franchises one day.”
“Regarding online, we are changing our approach, so we want to have online in our future games, definitely, but step by step. So, we are working on specific features enhancing our single player [games], but we are not working on releasing the next game [as] a big online experience. So, we will be enhancing our single player games with online experiences.”
“Actually, we started working on online components over two years ago and we just continue. The only change is that we continue to work on it not as a main production line but as a supportive production line together with our single player productions, but we believe that our ideas, once they will be revealed, will be very exciting for gamers as an extra experience in our world which fits our single player games.”
They’re basically no longer making a standalone Cyberpunk multiplayer game after Cyberpunk 2077, but they will instead incorporate the online elements they developed for that standalone game into Cyberpunk 2077 or the next Cyberpunk game.
But CDPR is looking at having all their upcoming games have online elements powered by an in-house online technology that they are actively developing.
ID: gsxr11dOh man, they are going to go all Ubisoft on their games where you have a “store” menu in every single player game that completely takes you out of the experience and let’s you buy ridiculous costumes.
I really think CDPR is deciding to cash in their good will and go for the money mow
ID: gsy1jezYeah it's too bad they already flushed that good will from the Witcher down the shitter with the Cyberpunk release. And with how they handled the backlash, they made it clear they are no better than the other greedy studios they tried to stand out from. So nah I'm good CDPR, you couldn't even keep up the minimum expectation of quality in your single player games. I'll just go waste my money for the greedy fucks who can at least give me something with the illusion of quality.

Can't say i'm sad to hear this, just means that they'll have more hands on deck doing the fixes for the current single player game and upcoming DLC's.
ID: gswmpf5...or that they’re planning to cut the cord on the franchise entirely because of how badly burned its PR is.
ID: gswwpjsI hope not. Pondsmith's world is incredible.
ID: gswtaamIt still sold really well. That’s a big pool of people to sell DLC to
ID: gswyi8gCP2077 completely recouped its development and marketing budget through preorders alone. It had $600+ million in digital sales by December. And it's not like sales just came to a hard stop in December, it's still been selling well, it was still in the top 20 game sales for January.
CDPR made a fuck ton of money from the game, the question now is will they bring enough players back for their first big DLC, which I think they will. Every year we have multiple AAA games launch to a sputtering mess, and every year we get "haha I hope developer X learned from the failed launch of game Y and they take their time on this one!" CP2077 will be replaced by someother game this year as the example of how not to launch and the headlines will move on like they always do. CP2077 will be patched up and in good shape just like W3 was before the first large DLC.
It's a yearly cycle and it's weird how few people seem to notice.
ID: gsx1q4uThe multiplayer game was being handled by an outside team
They won't have any more hands on deck after this anouncment
-
So multiplayer isn’t fully canceled it just won’t be its own separate release?
-
Man thank god I developed an interest for this game only within the last year, so I’m not overly disappointed.
If I had waited on this game since they announced it I would be heartbroken lol.
-
CD Projekt is never going to be trusted with another game. Jesus.
ID: gswkgz9I still remember before launch how CDPR was considered by almost everyone as one of the best studios.
I especially remember how much appraisal they got when they announced the next-gen versions of Witcher 3 and how they’ll be free of charge.
The downfall was so unexpected
ID: gswkxqyThe level that they’ve fallen was unexpected, but honestly CP2077 was so wildly hyped (partially their own fault for showing off features that they later cut out) that it was never ever going to meet everyone’s expectations.
ID: gswpqi3Someone's going to make a video called "The Rise and Fall of CDPR" soon, I can feel it in the air
ID: gswmzklThe higher they are, the harder they fall. If Rockstar released an absolutely disastrous flop on the scale of Cyberpunk (eg GTA 6 is a broken mess) they would be dragged down to oblivion
ID: gswp8leThe thing is the hype wasn’t really justified.
Witcher 3 is a great game, certainly after its post release content and updates made it pretty polished. But what else do they have under their belt? They’re hardly a storied developer of hits after hits.
My biggest worry with CP2077 was how little gameplay they were showing for the longest time. Just like Anthem and No Mans Sky the concept was cool, but the minute to minute gameplay is what truly matters and not showing it large and proud suggested a lack of confidence.
Then we started hearing reports of crunch under the studio which were dismissed by eager fans despite it being a rallying point for other big devs.
Then we had the videos of gameplay close to launch which looked a bit bland? They didn’t hook me anyway, but maybe for some it was hitting the right notes.
I wasn’t remotely surprised by the lacklustre response or subsequent drop in enthusiasm that drizzled out. A darling developer without the back catalogue to prove consistent quality, a marketing campaign that wanted you to care about Keanu more than gameplay, and a whole new type of play style that the developer hadn’t attempted before.
ID: gsx665hCDPR only announced YESTERDAY that they have TWO new AAA projects that they intend to start working on simultaneously next year.

Not everyone can be Rockstar
ID: gswmvyuI think that’s their big lesson from all this, yeah. Competing with the big boys is harder than it looks, or else everyone would be doing it.
It’s not that nobody else wants to make GTA/Skyrim scope games, it’s that it’s damn hard to pull off.
ID: gswra6cIt also took rockstar decades to get the success of GTA V. The previous titles were popular but nowhere near this level.
-
Did anyone ITT actually read the article?
instead of primarily focusing on one big online experience or game, we are focusing on bringing online into all of our franchises one day.”
-
This is actually considered as a good news to me. CDPR should just focus where they are known being good at and that is Single Player Games not repetitive multiplayer games that is ridden with microtransactions..
They should just keep updating CP2077 content like the way Hello Games does with their No Man's Sky right now.
ID: gsxih5jI don’t think you read the whole thing
-
AAA has lost all meaning as a term.
-
Oh No!... anyway

There is? Even though multiplayer was going to be standalone? Huh
