- Resident Evil Village supports gyro aiming on PS5, making Capcom the first major 3rd party publisher to support this feature of the Dualsense controller. The implementation needs some fixing though.
-
So we all finally get to use the training from our childhood where we would twist the controller every which way while playing! Lol.
-
Rogue Company has had gyro aiming.
Either way, I really hope that more and more developers implement it into their games. Thanks for this good news!
ID: gv2c1zcID: gv2jbxwWhat the fuck is gyro aiming?
ID: gv2o1j9It's an additional level of input on top of the joysticks. You can still do most of your aiming with the sticks and then can barely move the controller to like up a headshot or track a moving target
ID: gv2l7unIt's aiming down the sights using the gyroscopic sensor in the controller instead of the sticks. A lot of people prefer that for more twitchy precise movements. Here's someone doing some "test"
-
I don’t get why there aren’t more games doing this? The switch has so many games that utilize this function and although the dual shocks joysticks are leagues above, it could still utilize this great feature.
ID: gv0xoaeYes I think it is pretty disappointing to see that you can connect your Playstation controller to PC or Nintendo Switch and play all kinds of games with gyro aiming but when playing on an actual Playstation you can't.
This is a great first step though. I hope it sets a precedent for future titles.
ID: gv1dat8Me too. Gyro aiming in shooters and action games on the Switch ruined twin stick aiming for me on other platforms. Just so clunky compared to gyro aiming.
ID: gv2a5raGT Sport on PS4 has gyro-steering or whatever it's called. It's pretty fun actually
ID: gv263urI was so against the idea of gyro aiming until I used it for Paladins on Switch. Then I realized how powerful gyro aiming could be when done right. Gyro aiming is what I believe could close the gap between kbm and controller.
I don't think people who are used to the way a controller works are ready for such a huge shake up yet though.
Hell, paddles on the back of controllers still isn't a main stay feature, and we've long known how superior not having to move your thumbs off the sticks are.
ID: gv11tj8The Switch needs it unless you're using a Pro controller. Aiming with the sticks on the Joy Cons is damn near impossible.
ID: gv1d6g3Still. Why don't devs give us the options to use gyro when aiming down sights in multiplayer games for example?
As one of the 4 people out there to own a steam machine I can tell you gyro aiming in games like portal is awesome, arguably better than a mouse, because there's no friction.

Some further context:
Gyro aiming has been a big topic especially in the early days of the PS5 subreddit and finally we got our first 3rd party game supporting this next gen feature of the Dualsense controller.
Gyro aiming behaves like mouse aiming but utilizes the internal motion sensor of the controller.
The big caveat right now is that the implementation in Resident Evil is pretty much unusable at the moment and I suspect that this feature isn't fully implemented yet. Fundamental stuff like adjusting the sensitivity of the sensor isn't possible and for some reason when you activate it, the right analog stick stops working which obviously is a big problem.
I hope they fix this for the final release. I think it's great that developers are giving us more options to choose how we want to play and make use of the Dualsense features. When implemented well gyro aiming can be absolutely incredible so I hope they stick with it and inspire other developers to follow suite.
ID: gv1qmrkYeah, I was surprised to see the option but immediately disappointed when I tried it. If anyone's tried gyro aiming in The Last of Us Part 2 then sadly it's absolutely nothing like that. You feel less like you're directly controlling the aim and more like you're slowly dragging the reticle around. Imagine trying to aim an analog stick by pulling on it with an elastic band. That's essentially what it feels like. It's sluggish and there's heavy acceleration that can't be turned off with a dramatic step in sensitivity. As you said, hopefully it's an unfinished version of the feature because as it is it's completely unusable.
ID: gv1rqkfIs gyro aiming in TLOU2 any good?
ID: gv2bsdvfinally we got our first 3rd party game supporting this next gen feature of the DualSense controller
Minor gripe, but it's not really a next gen feature, the DualShock 4 also had gyro. You could use it to select letters on the onscreen keyboard, and some games, like Days Gone or The Last of Us Part II, allowed you to aim with it.
ID: gv2duotThe Sixaxis and DualShock 3 had gyros too. Didn’t Warhawk have motion controls? I think that was the first PS3 game I played.
I don’t know how well the generations perform relative to each other though, I presume the MEMS gyro/accelerometer technology has improved over the years.
-
I have hoped for this in sooooo long to be a normal feature in every shooter.
-
Finally a game where I can aim with my Mediterranean sandwich.

What’s Gyro Aiming?
ID: gv10hyiIt is a form of motion controls where a gyro sensor in the Dualsense controller will track the orientation of the controller and translate it into camera movement.
It has seen widespread support on PC, in VR and on Nintendo Switch and functions similar to a mouse on PC. This video might do a better job of explaining what it does and what it is good for:
ID: gv1vx3xso basically the sixaxis from the PS3 controller?
ID: gv13ar4if you wanna test it out, days gone and last of us part 2 both offer gyro aiming both on PS4 and ps5
ID: gv10fsi" A gyro or gyros is a Greek dish made from meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie. Like shawarma and tacos al pastor, it is derived from the lamb-based doner kebab. In Greece and Cyprus it is prepared most often with pork or chicken, whilst beef, chicken, and lamb are common in other countrie "
ID: gv22cn4Ok thanks Siri.
ID: gv10usoYou sir, doing the Lord's work.

Or first party. It’s so unfortunate that motion controls are treated like a gimmick. Accuracy’s right up there with mouse and keyboard, but with the intuitive movement of a controller. I really hope that new features introduced by the PS5 stick through the generation instead of being neglected after the first year.
-
it does but its not great... i'd rather get the VR headset if im doing this thing since the principle is the same it would just be easier with VR
-
Gyro aiming can be disorienting at first, but it really pays off with shooters. I learned to use it with Gravity Rush and Uncharted: Golden Abyss on Vita.
-
Fucking awesome! Days gone and Last of us 2 also supports it.
-
The implementation that they're describing sounds literally unusable, they might as well not have gyro available at all. How would you turn around in game, turn the controller backwards? IMO, the right stick should always be used for the base of camera control, and then the gyro is just an additional layer for precision and fine tuning your aim.
ID: gv1znmqYes. It seems like a bug or a massive oversight.
Capcom already has done motion aiming well for all their Nintendo Switch games. They should know how to do this.
So either this is a very unfininished version or they need to consult the devs who worked on their Switch games to get it into a usable state
-
Hell to the yes!
-
Doesn't immortal fency rising also support gyro aiming? Or am I mistaken?
ID: gv0zqstLast I heard it was only available on the Switch version unfortunately.
-
Has to disable it immediately. The idea is good, but man, aiming with it was basically impossible
-
The big issue that the title is talking about is that right stick aiming is disabled when gyro aiming is on.
Gyro aiming isn't just tilting the controller to aim, you need to use the right stick for large movements and use the gyro for smaller ones. I have no clue how Capcom thought disabling the right stick was a good idea.
One step forward, two steps back. What a shame.
-
Days Gone has it too. Its saved me a lot in a hordes lol
-
This is something I wished devs used more on the PS4. Instead I ended up using it on my PC with my PS4 controller thanks to Steam. It's sad I couldn't use it on the main platform.
I hope more devs follow and it becomes standard for any game that requires aiming.
-
I'm all for more player options, but I hate gyro and immediately turn it off. I'm happy for people who like it, though!
-
I absolutely loved aiming my bow in Skyrim on switch. Fine tuning the aim is so seamless and immersive
-
Amazing. This was a great tool with the steam controller.
-
Please let this become industry standard.
-
I've had headphones plugged into the controller and it doesn't seem to work right. When I unplugged them, worked better. Still felt like a mess, though.
Also I was looking forward to adaptive triggers implementation but it just seemed okay? So far I'm more distracted by these triggers in games which demand quick action (Rainbow Six Siege, Black Ops Cold War, Village).
ID: gv113ocYes it seems rather unfinished at the moment.
They need to fix it for the full release.
Responsiveness and the ability to use your right analog stick is vital for people to actually enjoy using the motion aiming feature.
-
Not a fan of gyro and I’ll most likely turn it off straight away, but glad they’re offering options for those who do like it
-
Is this moving your controller physically to move your aiming/viewing cursor ingame? People actually use that feature? I personally find it annoying and inconsistent in most games I've played that have it but I can understand the need for accessibility.

The open beta for Enlisted also has it.
