- Tips to get started in MLB The Show 21, out tomorrow
-
As an Englishman who has no idea about baseball but would like to give the MLB games a try, how easy are they to understand from scratch?
ID: gv349rfID: gv3iusgLovely stuff. Thanks for the help!
ID: gv3hettIt will take a little bit of time, but it's not as complex as you might imagine. The basics are quite simple. There's no better way to learn the game than play it (even as a video game).
ID: gv3itq4Brilliant stuff. Thanks bud
ID: gv4dmiuI’d like to add that there are tons of strategies when it comes to baseball - everyone wants the home run team. However, starting out I would definitely recommend a focus on loading the bases and learning the strategies for players on the bases. Should you try for a home run to get all 4 players around to home, if that doesnt go past the wall, will you end up with a player out of base and tagable? Or would you be better off bunting and gambling for the player on 3rd to make it in, but be careful because you could cost yourself the inning that way.
That’s just one extreme example. There’s lots of nuance to it that really makes it a fun sport - and this is coming from someone who really couldn’t give a shit about sports! Treat it like the playable sim it is.
ID: gv4zpkuLike most sports, the basic rules are pretty easy to grasp but there's some l nuances that can take a while to remember.
I think you'll be fine and be able to at least enjoy the game despite not knowing some of these nuances.

I tend to get The Show in alternating years, and have been playing a lot of 20. What are the biggest changes that would make 21 worth the buy?
ID: gv3bq0eDepends on which game mode you play. If you like RTTS, it’s most likely not going to be worth it, they absolutely gutted the mode and tied progress to diamond dynasty. Franchise is possibly worth it (they made minor upgrades) and if you play diamond dynasty it’s absolutely worth it for all the new content and cards to collect
Come hang on /
ID: gv3c2r5Thank you. I almost exclusively play RttS, so I'll probably hold off on this for now. I'll check out the subreddit though, thank you!
ID: gv3lr55Well that's good to know because the only reason I play the games for road to the show, I don't even understand what exactly this Diamond Dynasty thing is I've always ignored it
ID: gv3qmkxI think the biggest change is the load time on PS5. It only takes 5-7 seconds to load into a Moment, which is my most played game mode

I've been playing The Show for years now (PS3, PSP, Vita, PS4) and this might be the first year I skip out. I'm not liking the direction they're taking the game, especially RTTS. This is a real bummer.
-
I’ll probably play it in game pass unfortunately. I just don’t wanna pay $70. Hopefully it gets a price drop or it comes to ps plus
-
Looking forward to playing this tomorrow on PS5 & the dualsense features
ID: gv35yu1The perfect/perfect sound and feeling from the controller is amazing
ID: gv391reI love the feeling. I wish the sound was a little different though, I feel like perfect/perfect sounded better last year

As someone from the UK, never though about buying a baseball game but I’m gonna try it on gamepass tomorrow to see if I like, if I do il buy them from now on:)

ID: gv2ty5tBut then you have to own an Xbox.
ID: gv2vqmnNot who you replied to but I was lucky enough to get a Series X. With the addition of cross play, it's pretty awesome to have it available day one on game pass.
I don't know if there are any dualsense features, but if there's anything that really enhances gameplay, I may buy it later when it's on sale for PS5.

ID: gv31yefGame Pass is getting the next-gen version, and there aren't any more features included with the standard edition of the PS5 game. If I'm wrong, I'd be happy to see some sources. There is really nothing about fanboys here, if someone owns both consoles, there is no point spending an extra $69 at this point.

ID: gv33u9lGame pass gets both the Xbox One and Series X versions. Why are you lying through your teeth? It's not necessary.
ID: gv32k6yWhere did you get the fact that Game Pass isn’t getting the next-gen version? I’d really love to know.
And if you’re wrong, please don’t delete your comment.
Edit: Comment deleted, lmaoooo
ID: gv354r2Not sure why I’d delete a comment just because of what Xbox fanboys say
ID: gv3msq8Ah. The same dude that defend Sony with his life coming up with false shot. Standard.
ID: gv38kk3Lol GamePass is absolutely getting the next gen version.
ID: gv3aeawWell this guy's salty LMAO.
ID: gv37l8wFeatures like pay 70$ instead

Here's my tip: just grab any old copy from a previous year and play that because it's the same.
-

ID: gv3ib4gWhy are you even here?
ID: gv3j88qBecause I’m a ps5 owner
ID: gv31wowSony has been releasing MLB games exclusively on Playstation platforms since 2006 starting with the PS2 and by your own admission you haven't played a single one. Now that it is available on Xbox and on game pass you will. Sony gets the benefit of expanding the audience for the series, much like their recent initiative of bringing first party titles to PC.
Not sure why people are choosing to make a big stink about the game arriving to game pass because once again, most of you didn't support the series before one way or another.

Probably not for $70 if you have previous versions and are alright with outdated rosters. I’m personally sticking 20 until there is a significant price drop

I think the show will do a good job easing you into baseball. They are well polished and about as feature complete as a sports game can be.
If you have any questions about the sport please feel free to reach out, I’d be happy to answer your questions if you get the game!
