- I can't buy a PS5 so I just installed HDMI A/V out into my PS1 and hit myself on the head until the games look next gen.
-
Is it safe to assume you're still hitting yourself on the head??

ID: gvia7nyOnly you don't punching anyone
ID: gvhmyz9well, getting drunk can produce the same effect of punching yourself
ID: gvhqi6sYou could also not sleep for a long time.
ID: gvi5uwcWon't need to that many times, making ps1 look nextgen is just ps2!

How the heck did you install a hdmi into a PS1? YouTube tutorial? Are you a genius with electronics?
I never thought they'd be compatible.
ID: gvfg5doI'm no genius. At least not when it comes to designing electronics. chriz2600 and citrus3000psi (look on twitter) designed the mod. It pulls the digital signal straight off of the GPU and uses some kind of voodoo to convert it into a signal that's output via HDMI. It's pure digital to digital so it's the cleanest video output possible.
There are similar mods for the Dreamcast, N64. There used to be one for the Wii (called Wiidual) that's no longer in production IIRC.
ID: gvfvvfc...nintendo 64?..meaning i can play pilotwings 64 without a scaler?..
ID: gvg07ixThere used to be one for the NES as well, but it got discontinued because of parts availability.
ID: gvghuqzIt's all compatible since it's just a matter of video signal conversion. All consoles have a video processing circuit after the GPU, the mod is essentially adding a second video processing circuit, only instead of the old AV/SCART circuit it's HDMI and works parallel to the old one. You can theoretically do this with any console, ofc designing the circuit is the tricky part where you need EE knowledge to know how to treat the signals.

You'd be amazed how many of life's problems can be solved simply by hitting yourself in the head repeatedly.
-
Alternatively OP you could just drop some acid
ID: gvgdr9gFunny enough, games on LSD look worse than normal.
Source: have experimented
ID: gvgheedTry Redout.
ID: gvg700xMan thats the funnnnnnnnnnnnnnnest shit ewe=r
ID: gvgc2o4Until you have a mental breakdown and become a worse version of yourself. Aren’t drugs fun

My son found the PS1 version of Worms and that is what we are currently playing on the good old PS3, as my PS4 isn't able to play PS1 games despite enough power to just enmulate it.
-
Well that was a little harder than just attaching your ps2 and ps3 to each other
-
PS 1 IS THE GOAT!
-
Cool update: I ran my car inside my garage with the door closed and now it looks like Syphon Filter has ray tracing.
-
PS1 and N64 games will look like real life on a small CRT display...
In fact game devs relied on CRTs for free antialiasing. All that dithering you see looked pretty smooth on a CRT.
-
But you need a 15 KHz CRT TV for it's games to look actually good because they use the so called dithering pattern that was designed for those TVs.
-
Yeah, but now you can't do system link (I always wanted to try that but never have had a chance)
-
Poking your self in the eyes might work faster
-
Just wear someone’s prescription glasses.
-
I'm happy with how my PS1 looks going from the default composite to HDMI, but I have considered something like the XStation mode to one of my PS1's that's having disk reading issues and make it read from a MicroSD. Especially for those rare games I'll never get.
-
Great idea, let me know if it worked cuz im broke too bradda
-
This made me laugh. Take my wholesome award!

PS1 is very easy to attach to newer HDMI TVs with the use of OSSC (Open Source Scan Convertor). Here is one video of connected PS1 with OSSC:
ID: gvgs3jaresults are nowhere near as good as this mod
ID: gvhcaw8The OSSC is a fiddly and labor intensive solution for the PS1 in particular. I had one and sold it to make way for the upcoming RAD5x from RetroTink.
The PS1 supports such a wide range of bizarre resolutions that if you wanted a profile for each one you'd use roughly half of the available slots on the OSSC. Timings have to be set for each one.
-
It might work better if you find a dead squirrel to beat your face in with.
-
Shrooms would be a lot safer than concussing yourself
-
This is the way!

Raspberry Pi... Arduino... something something...
ID: gvh6fxtWhy play games on original hardware when you can install emulators on a Raspberry Pi and never shut the fuck up about it?
ID: gvh9hm9There's also the ps classic which was like $20 at some point. But the why is, you can have built in save states, and every ps1 game ever released, for free. But I guess learning some basic computing skills is too hard so let's be dumb.
-
Every display is Retina if you're far enough!
-
TIL if you flip the Sony logo upside down it says ANOS and I'll now be referring to every PS accordingly forever onwards.
-
vodka can help with that
-
That looks really nice. I've seen less than stellar work.
-
Get that action replay
-
really hope you're either playing matt hoffman's pro bmx or spyro. any other psx game is trash /s
-
God, I miss the days where a casual slap on the top of the console solved any bugs or frozen screens.
-
Why not just get 1 of the ps1 minis that already run off HDMI? Much less messing about and no dealing with scratched disks and memory cards Didn’t take me too long to get to get roms running on it so I can play any ps1 game, not just the few it comes loaded with
-
Lmao
