- Returnal Gameplay - The First 45 Minutes on PS5!

I really hope Sony continues to foster this idea of “Triple A-Indie Games” while continuing to churn out the classic triple a games we love.

Not having a PS5 is rougher now because i really wanna try this game.
ID: gvi59qrFollow all those spammy Twitter accounts that provide buying updates and in stock alerts. I just got mine after three weeks of trying. Turn tweet notifications on, buy immediately following their instructions.
I just got mine at retail price from gaming superstore Kohls haha. Don't be picky and be ready to get it from any retailer.
ID: gvi6m35Thanks!

Idk if this game is up my alley, but I'd like to actually start playing PS5 games besides Astro and Miles. I'm going to get Ratchet but that's a whole two months away
ID: gvgi3fbDid you scoop up Control when it was on PS+?
ID: gvh13eoI had already played it and wasn't a fan
ID: gvgub6wControl is a PS4 game as well
-
Gives me some risk of rain vibes, which is a good thing
-
Sony needs to buy Housemarque already! They’ve clearly proven themselves!
ID: gvfd33yI think it is set and done given the reception of this game
ID: gvftp2gWell we all know how much Sony cares about the metacritic scores. If it goes below 80 they’ll probably be mad
-
Game look intresting very few game make use your deaths and incoperate into the games story.
Not really sure gameplay though not fan of shooters even if they are third person, it does look amazing though
-
Does anyone know if it is possible to actually beat this game?
ID: gvhpq6fI’d guess like with most rogue lites you can “beat the game” by making it past the final biome and boss. You’ll get a “you win” cutscene and then you’ll start back up at the intro hub for your next run
ID: gvhv8gnHopefully completing a run is only the beginning.
-
I feel like this is getting overhyped because there aren’t many PS5 games.
-
The setting etc all look great. I'm tempted to day 1 this just to try out a 'true' PS5 game.
The gameplay looks a little bit too souls like for me though, I know a lot of people love that so it's not a criticism, it's just the only reason I haven't pre ordered already.
ID: gvg608zWhat looks souls like about it to you? Genuinely curious as I don't see any similarities beyond maybe atmosphere and that you are expected to die a lot

It's more about how you have to approach the gameplay than the game itself.
Doesn't look soulslike at all. It looks more like Nier: Automata.
Yep, plan on using replicant tomorrow to practice my bullet 3d hell skills!
I'm in the same exact boat. I really want to try a true PS5 game (since I skipped Demons Souls) and the first game to come out? Souls like lol fuck me.
I might still buy it though because June is a long wait for Ratchet.
This has more in common with space invades than a souls game
Procedural generation... metrovania... shooter... bullet hell...
Yes! Definitely a Soulslike! /s
Edit: Added /s because Reddit
Memorising attack patterns, Prioritising a defensive approach of dodging and movement with quick reflexes. Even though it’s a shooter I certainly understand the comparisons
Also known as most snes games!
Do you really not see any similarities between them or are you just being obtuse?
It's quite clearly taking a good amount of inspiration from soulslike games. I wouldn't (and didn't) call it a soulslike, but there are some very familiar elements to it.
I'm not sure how this game plays out... Is it something like the recent Doom games, where you work through a series of levels/areas over the course of the game to get to the end, or are there fewer areas but you're intended to play the same areas multiple times/or start from the beginning each time you die and repeat multiple times??
It's more of a roguelite structure rather than level based like doom. You will start at the beginning each time you die, but will keep some progress like gun levels and shortcuts to get you through the areas quicker. Each life the map will be different and I think there are 6 different Biomes with their own enemies and bosses gating the next area.
Okay thanks! I appreciate your reply. I'd throw caution to the wind and pre-order if the game was £40, but for £70.... I'm feeling ultra-cautious.
Check out Risk of Rain 2. I think the game is very similar structure wise except Housemarque had millions of dollars and a lot of experience behind it. Nothing against RoR2 I love it. This just feels like a AAA version of that game.
Okay thanks, I'll take a look.
This game seems super interesting to me, but one reviewer mentioned playing for 90 minutes before dying. I can’t imagine putting 90 minutes into something and then just doing it again. I know you get stronger and keep the stats, but I just think I’ll end up being frustrated more than anything. I’m gonna force myself to hold out a few weeks for Mass Effect to get my space fix.
Kinda meh tbh.
That’s about where I am. It has a lot going for it but it just looks...boring and repetitive. Hope I’m wrong.
The hivemind downvotes any comment that doesn't folliw the mob.
I agree with u.
This positivity on this sub about this game is almost surreal.
This looks REALLY mediocre to me, from the sound effects to the dash animation and even the gunplay.
The environment also looks identical throughout the video.
I'm not normally this HARSH on a game but it looks like generic indie software to me and the sub is super positive about it. The graphics (especially the lighting, and particle effects) look straight out of last gen unreal engine 4, as well)
Edit: It IS unreal engine 4. How can anyone call this a 'true' ps5 game is beyond me. This is literally last gen software.
Get a grip people.
Game looks great to me.
Maybe it's just not your kind of game, there's nothing wrong with that. Nobody needs to "get a grip" for liking something you don't like.
Yeah I can't understand your viewpoint at all. It looks fantastic graphically and the gameplay looks fluid and polished. Unreal 4 is not a dated engine, it's been continuously updated since it's release. The last gen of consoles barely scratched the surface of what the engine can do because they lacked the power to take advantage.
Are you stupid? Unreal Engine 5 isn't out yet.
Everyone really wants a truly "next gen" experience I think. Personally this is a "wait for a sale" game for me as I'm not huge on the roguelite gameplay aspect, but the setting and atmosphere sure looks cool
I definitely agree people are overreacting but the game DOES look like fun.
I'm just happy to see a new game coming soon that looks promising.
Same
It IS unreal engine 4. How can anyone call this a 'true' ps5 game is beyond me. This is literally last gen software.
That's not how engines work. You're either a bad troll or just very stupid.
Gives me major Control vibes. Definitely going to pre-order
So it’s like an action version of Outer Wilds?
You'll be able to remap for sure, even if you can't remap in game you can just do it within the accessibility settings directly on the PS5.
Yeah hopefully L1 and R1 aren't too important so we can do some remapping.
Sony releasing another over-the-shoulder game. Le sigh.
Some people are never satisfied
It really doesn't have much in common with other Sony exclusives beyond being third person
It has nothing in common with Bloodborne or Horizon?
Is it not a combat focussed, 3rd person game where you follow a narrative and run from place to place killing/completing goals?
Sony ain't releasing shit, they're publishing a Housemarque game that's one of the directors passion projects lmao

Praise be.
