- Inverted Mouse
-
rotates wireless mouse all the way around
Oh no... im a murderer
ID: gx7kyynID: gx7m0b8I think you just reinvented the wiimote
ID: gx7mxj9There's a 200$ gaming mouse that does that. I think it's just not how the default equipment works so it's not really implemented a lot. You can use it in flying games
-
I was thinking of that when playing on controller
ID: gx6w98pSame here, can't use the controller without it being inverted
ID: gx6zpbwOh no no i just thought about that. I'm playing straight.
ID: gx744tiyou're completely losing that analogy unless you also invert the x axis
ID: gx7a2anI might invert y-acid of I'm flying a plane. It resemble an aircraft control stick and that's also how Star Fox 64 did it.
ID: gx7ghmoIt's weird, I can't fly anything in-game without the stick inverted, but can't play inverted when not flying.
ID: gx7gcgtI play inverted but this doesn't explain why because I never invert X axis.
I'm pretty sure most people don't invert X.
-
Wow that's kinda twisted. I used to play a lot of flight sims so I got used to flight controls.
I should probably note that I use inverted y-axis on controllers but not on mouse. Wouldn't feel right on mouse imo.
ID: gx6gsk5I use inverted Y on everything, and it's all thanks to Starfox. It was the first game I played that it mattered and I simply cannot do it normally.
ID: gx6u79dHoly shit, same here with Star Fox! A friend and I played the hell out of it one summer as kids and I've never been able to play non-inverted ever
ID: gx71ayiYep! Star Fox 64 is the reason my friends hated me for having to pause the game and turn on inverted y-axis during halo Lan partys.
ID: gx6vn4jI might be going back a little further than that.
1st game I can remember playing with inverted flight controls was Zaxxon
first on the upright arcades, then Commodore 64
ID: gx7el2sYeah it’s weird that we all grew up inverted but at some point the majority just decided up is up and that we’re the weird ones. Pretty sure GoldenEye was inverted.
Instead of picturing a head like OP’s picture, I explain it to people as theyre moving the barrel and I’m moving the stock
ID: gx74gnoAnd Goldeneye.
ID: gx67bcySame here. I hate switching back and forth and having to change the options even for the simplest "lemme just do this one bit from the keyboard."
ID: gx6twqzI started off on space/flight sims on PC and couldn't afford a joystick back then so inverted mouse it was and it's stuck to this day. Thanks TIE Fighter.
ID: gx75s4eYup! X-wing 95.
ID: gx7qshrTie Fighter is the best flight combat game I've ever played.
ID: gx765yzWhen I first played flight sims as a kid it confused as to why you'd press up to go down.
When I realised that it was how actual flight controls worked, I figured it was a bit like in the picture here.
ID: gx6mk3lI thought I was the only one in this boat. For some reason, I have to invert the Y on a controller but have to set it to normal with the mouse.
ID: gx7ii4jWith mouse the idea is that mouse is effectively your eyeball/vision when looking around.
Eyeball up, view goes up.
Eyeball down, view goes down.
ID: gx78it2Same here, almost all the first person games I played were simulators until Wolfenstein 3D. Pulling back to look up is something I'd been doing since the 80s.... Actually, come to think of it, I think Red Baron from the late 70s had inverted Y.
ID: gx6botaI feel you man, I got used to the flight controls too
-
There was a game in the early 2000's, and the fact that I can't even remember the name says a lot about how quickly I stopped playing and thinking about it... but it had inverted mouse only. I just couldn't make my head wrap around the concept. It didn't compute in my brain.
I spent a few hours trying to get used to it, and even longer trying to figure out if it could be changed, before giving up on it.More power to you if that's how you play. That's how I play on Consoles... but for PC I need the mouse movement to be a representation of the cursor.
ID: gx6ufxb>for PC I need the mouse movement to be a representation of the cursor.
Is anyone inverting cursor controls?
ID: gx77gchI do it to co workers
ID: gx7ghx7Most fps games in the 90s use inverted schemes....or rather, they weren't 'inverted' because they were the default.
Why it got switched around, I will never understand.
ID: gx7h2zmI think it stemmed from old joysticks, which were based off fighter jets. Pulling back on the joystick tilts the plane upward, and that carried over to video games until people realized how little sense it made with dual-joystick controllers.
ID: gx74c5oSo this happened to me. It was a cabelas hunting game. And I liked it and got used to inverted and now I can never ever go back.
-
Flying games always are weird for me, I’ll start not liking inverted so I’ll change it but then I’ll struggle without it somehow.
-
you're completely losing that analogy unless you also invert the x axis
ID: gx77d9cPeople who invert x are monsters.
ID: gx7fwzbWind Waker on wiiu gave you the option to invert X but not y. I couldn't play it
ID: gx77fv3This is my wife's preferred setup. She's had to adapt to non-inverted x-axis playstyle though as some games don't support x-axis inversion (looking at you, Skyrim for Nintendo Switch...).
ID: gx7mucsIf you need to invert the X and Y axis, you can just hold the mouse or nunchuck upside-down
-
And the X axis doesn’t matter, because inverted or not you’re ripping their head off to look left or right.
ID: gx71rkmI mean by that logic moving the mouse forward and back would just be ripping the head off and pushing it forward or backward
-
Also, I am old and can remember when there "inverse Y" was the default option.
ID: gx7ildlSome N64 and PS1 games doesn't even have the option to switch to normal
-
Explain how looking left to right works with this model? Wouldn’t you invert left right two if on your mind you are putting your hand on the back of someone head?
ID: gx765a1that's why it's a bad example. You also don't pivot your wrist like the illustration shows.
-
I never thought I would ever see this imagery.
-
I played inverted mouse on PC for a couple of decades. Then I played a game on console, I don't even remember what game now, and after that game, inverted mouse felt funny. I've played normal mouse in games ever since.
-
This is the way
-
I appreciate it, but respectfully you're wrong
-
Now, invert your hand, and jam it through at the base of his neck, until it bursts through and protrudes just under his chin, which you shall firmly grab. Now, when you push the mouse AWAY from you, your hand extends, tilting his chin - and therefore his eyes - upwards, and when you pull back, you reverse the direction and pull the chin and eyes downwards. This also solves for the x-axis, so they co-exist in harmony.
This is much more natural to me than gently guiding his head from behind.... please help me.

I've always wondered why we don't have mice with two sensors so they can detect when we rotate.
Think of all the different ways you could implement that in a game.
