Check your game clients. Pretty sure there are tonnes of those are claimed for free and will run perfectly fine on 4-threaded cpu and low spec gpu. Or you can try those old retro games that you have always wanted to play. Say no to scalper and stick to your old PC and have fun.

I'm going through Dragon Age Origins for the second time, havin' a blast.
ID: gq41raxID: gq5lwxmI'm not really into RPGs, but the only ones I really got into were Skyrim and DA:O. I would definitely recommend this to others.
ID: gq5ua0fI played through Dragon Age Origins once at launch and loved it. Been meaning to play it again for a looong time, I've even gone so far as to re-download it in the last few months. Pity it does look quite dated by todays standards, I don't think it was even considered good looking at the time of launch... but it's so worth it. If my area goes back into lock down I will absolutely be firing that up again. Did the Witcher trilogy last year.

thats why pc gaming is great: you an play any game from 1960s-present day with no issues. Even if my computer wasn't up to snuff for 2016 + titles, that's still a grandeur amount of games to play.
ID: gq4cmylI remember being hesitant switching from Windows 7 to 10, because I had heard about older games having trouble running on the new OS.
I can say gladly, that has never been an issue.
-
I’m on Alan Wake right now.
-
Plenty of good indies too. Actually better than almost any AAA.
Just starting Factorio again.
ID: gq41vzifactorio is amazing. i finally beat it about a week ago. its just such a chill (but you still gotta think, so not the most chill) great game
ID: gq5g6uyDefinitely. "Loop Hero" for example, just hit the ground running.
-
There isn't much that requires a 30XX that's worth playing anyway.
ID: gq42225in general no, but im sure theres at least a few people who got control in this months humble and want to wait till they get an rtx gpu to play it. or even just have something older and are waiting for the 30xx to have a gpu that can run newer games at 1440p or 4k or 144fps or something
ID: gq4qubsNot true when it comes to VR sadly. I have had issues with Star Wars: Squadrons in VR since it released and I would love to play it and have a smooth experience. Same thing for a few other VR games.
Still in the EVGA Step-up Queue almost 6 months later...
ID: gq4o7hmYeah, but it's good for playing Hexen at 666 fps.
ID: gq5jiwtAgreed.
I got lucky and bought a 3080. Since playing through Cyberpunk once, no game, that justifies its ludicrous capability, piqued my interest.
And I won't even replay Cyberpunk again, before the big patches have landed.
Currently I'm waiting for The Witcher 3's raytracing update. And that's also months away...
ID: gq46os9Not wrong. Got mine for Cyberpunk, but that's done and gone now. Not really interested in most AAAs, I'll play Control at some point though.
Since Cyberpunk I've been playing indies and light games like Satisfactory and Valheim. Good thing I upgraded to a 4K144 monitor, or my GPU would be mostly idle with these games.
ID: gq42jdiAgreed. I was looking to upgrade from a 1080Ti but then I took a step back and looked at the games that would really take advantage and there was just...nothing that I want to play. I'm saving my money instead and playing some older titles I never really gave a shot. Currently playing Age of Wonders 3 and loving it.
ID: gq59fpbThat cutoff will come eventually so it can be important to come prepared at some point...
ID: gq6h857Crimson Desert is supposed to come out at the end of the year.
And I want to play Black Desert on high settings and still get good frames.
I know those games for sure would benefit from having a 3080.
Crimson Desert's reveal trailer, using in-game footage
Also, Elder Scrolls 6, whenever it finally comes out. There's no way I'm going to play that at anything less than max.
ID: gq4qhwpWell I play 4k 144hz, so I really need my 3090.
-
Yeees, I finally decided to learn how to properly mod Skyrim and I'm having a blast
-
I feel so bad I did not upgrade my computer before corolla virus and scalper things went out of hand. DDR3 and no SSD does not feel so hot anymore 😀 but my i7 3770 has served me well for like 7 years. ( Playing even some games from backlog has been a pain )
Atleast I have gotten really back into Warhammer, painting has been so refreshing now.
ID: gq4mewhDamn Toyota and that corolla virus.
ID: gq5jr3x3770 and DDR3 isn't that bad. No SSD is bad on Win10 though.
ID: gq6sk29I'd get that SSD in the meantime, tbh. It's possibly the biggest upgrade available if you don't have one yet.
-
Silent Hill 1 to 4. SH1 is done, SH2 is next, SH3 will be a replay and 4 will be new.
I basicly replay old Japaners games, that either got a PC Release of work with seasoned emulators.
-
ive had my 5800/3080 for a while
Still playin baldurs gate 2.
This is the way.
-
Loving X COM 2 + WOTC right now. Yes it's depressing. I lose a lot.
ID: gq5k4xbXCOM 1 and 2's Ultimate Collections are on sale now for 80-90% depending on how many games + DLC people already have. Here's XCOM 2 collection which gives a deeper discount if people are only missing DLC:
-
Stardew all day
-
If only they literally would.
-
Don't worry you still play old games once you do get new hardware so keep playing !
-
Many new games run fine on 4-core CPUs. Most racing games, many action games - excluding many open-world games. In some games you just need to lower the framerate to the range your CPU can sustain.
ID: gq4247cdoom eternal is one of the only games ive played that i noticed actually using all my cores
-
Original Styx now has 90% discount in Steam.
-
The Witcher 1 😀
-
That's what I've been doing all along.
-
Trying to 100% Snowrunner, which is a massive undertaking, finally making my way through the Warlords DLC for TD2 I got on sale and RDR2 is ready for another playthrough. I'll have stuff to do to at least summer.
-
I just did Resident Evil 4 and Republic Commando so I guess I agree
ID: gq6f9ahIt kills me that republic Commando never got a sequel.
-
Yup since mid December I finished games I bought and never played, Evil Within 2, Hitman 2, Journey, Spongebob Rehydrated, Inside, Untitled Goose Game, Quantrum Break and now 90 hours in Nioh 2.. Next gonna be Dishonored 2, but there much much, so I really don't mind waiting until I can get rtx card.
-
I don't even want the latest GPUs for their performance.
I want them because affordable 120hz OLED gaming monitors finally exist now and they require HDMI 2.1.
As a former long-time CRT user I've already waited for more than 15 years to go back to instant response times with pure blacks and no backlight bleeding.
If AMD would get their shit together and finally make HDMI 2.1 drivers for their onboard GPUs I would immediately buy a Ryzen system and wait it out on onboard graphics.
But as it stands my only choice is paying 600€ for an RTX 3060 or possibly waiting another year using monitors I hate.
For now I'll wait though.
ID: gq5kc97Affordable OLED? You mean LG CX 48"? Is there something smaller?
-
Loop Hero just came out and I'm pretty sure will run on everything!
-
Oh yeah, going through RE1, 2 and 3 on PC again, the original not the remake, I will never get tired of these games
-
Been modding Skyrim SE as if that IS the game for about a year now. I can wait until I can walk into Microcenter and grab the latest GPU of the shelf. No problem.
-
I have really had a big urge to play Oblivion lately. And this time on PC, so I can finally disable friendly fire.
Also, I've always wanted to play Oblivion with a better loading distance for the grass.
-
Replaying Battlefield 3 campaign right now,
still looks good and multiplayer is still active! and this game have such superb optimization, it still amaze me to this day.
-
I bought my PC (2070 Super) in mid 2020 and the first game I downloaded was Fallout New Vegas. Couldn't have been happier.
-
I've begun reading lots of VNs lately. Highway Blossoms, Steins;gate and Sunrider. I really wasn't into the genre, not until Doki Doki Literature Club was trendy couple of years ago and oh boy it's been a trip!
-
Been doing it anyway. After Cyberpunk turned out to be trash (not even talking about bugs) Ive pretty much been playing older games or indie titles. Plus i have a 2060S from 2019 @1080p. Even if the current cards werent sold out, I have no need for an upgrade and enough patience to wait for rtx 40xx generation.
-
The situation is a bit overrated anyway. 4k 3000 fps max settings isn't the only way to play games. My old 1060 can take any current game. Most of them close to max settings.
Yes, it's bad for people who need to buy a card. Not so bad that you have to play 20-year-old games though. Of course, playing older games can be fun, regardless of the hardware situation. Do so if you feel like.
ID: gq3uh1uOP isn't saying you need to play 20 year old games.
ID: gq5kwfxThe situation is a bit overrated anyway. 4k 3000 fps max settings isn't the only way to play games.
Agreed but...
My old 1060 can take any current game. Most of them close to max settings.
Many games perhaps if your goalposts are simply 1080p @ 60 FPS average, but even that's not possible at max settings for many AAA games or even newer GPU intensive games in general - Not "any" game.
You are being downvoted for over selling the card, and as a former 1060 owner who now has a RTX 3080, I have too see you are over selling the 1060.

Even though I have a 3080, right now I'm playing Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen and i'm having a lot of fun. I really like fantasy RPGs where I can form my own party with companions and do all the quests with them. Some open world RPGs with vast environments are great and all, but it can get kind of lonely when you're just wandering by yourself. With Dragons dogma its always really cool when you're going to a new environment, or facing off against some foes and your companions are adding commentary. Just makes the adventure feel so lively.
ID: gq5u4ajTheir kind hates ice and fire both!

i got that game when it was free a few years ago. ive been meaning to play it, i just havnt
