What are the perks FSR over checkerboarding? Consoles already got the checkerboarding.
Can't wait to see this in actual gameplay and how it compares. I personally take artifacts and aliasing over blurry textures/edges. Never was able to use MLAA and FXAA I can only handle it on the lowest settings if I even use it.

I have to play Devil's advocate for this: MLAA can look pretty dope on the right game, for games that are already cartoony, like Borderlands, MLAA is a pretty decent AA solution!
Of course there aren't very many games that look like Borderlands, and any game that's even attempting to look realistic definitely won't pair well with MLAA.
But, because I was one of, like, seven people on the planet earth who was cool with MLAA in some games, I feel the need to stick up for it.

Forgetting about the fact that the sample slides from AMD where underwhelming to say the least, this is exactly what that 20CU Xbox needs.
ID: h0metpsIf AMD can get console developers to adopt FSR and use it in games, that'll really accelerate AMD's open source push.
ID: h0mkfodThis is doing a few things:
It provides an open alternative that lacks proprietary code (the open source bit). It buys AMD a degree of feature parity with NVIDIA (the competition - though, this likely needs another full generation or two of development to get anywhere near as good). It provides AMD a way to grow it's Mind Share. If you want to know what the #1 of the above three is - it's the third one. And the methodology is basically providing an improved gaming expierience for ALL gamers - Intel integrated I would presume will see benefit in the future, as will people with older NVIDIA cards in general see a benefit (at least the 1060, and depending on how this is implemented - possibly even earlier cards).
Pushing Open source in general creates a Mind Share boost - if you are running Linux, odds are you are looking at AMD as the go to option, as generally speaking: It's plug and play.
ID: h0mezalYeah, it should be a boon for the consoles. That's the exact type of situation this type of tech would excel at. The new Switch is getting DLSS also. It just makes a lot more sense in this type of scenario.
ID: h0mez0bIn my opinion 60fps and medium texture resolution looks way better than maximum texture resolution running at 35fps.
FSR will be great TV tech, if nothing else.
Edit: The holy grail would be dynamic FSR/DLSS, right? Set a target like 45fps, then the software determines which of the FSR settings from Off to Performance is the best to use. Though I don't know if that FSR setting can be switched on the fly, and also it seems like everytime I've seen something similar, like dynamic resolution scaling, the engine has been far more aggressive than it needed to be. But anyway, the point is that FSR is going to be perfect for consoles, and Dynamic FSR, if it could be made to exist, would be perfect for PCs, where small details matter. Do we know enough about the tech to speculate on whether that's possible or not?
ID: h0mg779Yea some devs seem to think series s is a lil underpowered even at 1080p. This would help in games that are much more demanding than average

Out of curiosity could this come to PlayStation as well
ID: h0mj3c3Most likely. After all AMD provides PS4 and ps5's CPU and gpu too.
ID: h0mka0oIt almost certainly will.
ID: h0mkwiaProbably... BUT, it is hard to say... Sony still hasnt gotten the VRR to work yet. :/

AMD master race?

I have been very confused about this for a long time. AMD is making it own FSR, and MS is doing its own ML upscaling starting with the nvidia cooperation long time ago. What will MS do with its own ML upscaling, if they will be using AMD FSR?
or as rumors suggest, that rdna3 likely will have extra ML/compute chip in it. then this FSR is the first implementation, and later AMD will be moving on to FSR with MS ML combined?

It's open source and can become a standard in the industry with input from all major players.
