I don't know what that is.
But I am interested if it has a 60fps ray tracing mode, like Miles Morales had.ID: h0lx5yvID: h0lr80r
4K upscaling. It worked fairly well in previous games they made. Should look good on a 4K screenID: h0m3yqn
Upscaling technique that uses info from previous frames to up rez the image.
If its like Spiderman and Ratchet 2016. It will render at around 1440p and use this tech to create a 4k image.
IMO its pretty good. Personally I think Insomniac's tech produced a better image then checkerboard rendering.
Demons Souls PS5 used similar tech in its performance mode I believe.ID: h0mlcu8
Do any other Sony studios use Insomniac’s tech? If they don’t I hope they do going forwardID: h0m26np
That's what I'm hoping for. I was asking for that type of mode for PS5 games well before Insomniac even released it for Spider-man. I've played games with reconstruction since the Pro was released and used DLSS a decent amount of time with an RTX 2080 Super. The significant boost to frames, effects, and detail is well worth the slight compromise in clarity. I'm very curious to see how AMD's new FSR technique stacks up to checkerboard and temporal injection. It could step in as a replacement depending on how good it is and how easy or difficult it is to implement.
Insomniac is just like the best you know. Sony has a fantastic trio of studios with Insomniac, Naughty Dog and Santa Monica.
Edit: trio not trilogyID: h0ltafn
WTF? What about Guerilla and Sucker Punch?ID: h0ltyj8
The Bash Brothers.ID: h0lvio9
They're really good too, don't get me wrong, but I just feel like the other ones are in a league of their own.
Naughty Dog has 4 Game of the Year winners (Uncharted 2 & 4 and The Last of Us 1 & 2). Insomniac can get a high quality game out each and every year, and has an ICONIC franchise in Ratchet and Clank that they built from the ground up. And don't even get me started on Santa Monica Studios. They created my favorite game of all time (God of War 2018) and each one of their mainline GoW games had a level of greatness that is hardly ever matched.
Guerilla is fantastic. If I had a tier list I would put them as the 1st studio not placed in S tier. When Horizon FW comes out and if it's as good as the first one or even better, I think they could be placed in S tier. Especially since they transitioned so smoothly from a FPS studio to an Action-Adventure studio.
Sucker Punch is a little bit different; I think they have more to prove to be ranked in the same category as ND, Insomniac and SMS. They're still very talented tho.ID: h0lz4h9
No way either of them could replace any of the studios he mentionedID: h0lxq3w
Guerilla Games only really had one highly praise game in Horizon. Killzone was great don't get me wrong but Horizon put them on the map so they are still not on the same level as the rest of the trio
Sucker Punch is kind of in a similar situation. Infamous series are good but GoT is their only game of the year game (I think) so they still got a lot to prove
Consistency is key. If both of these teams can continuously put out games on the same level as their latest games, then they would be consider on the same level as the other 3 teams otherwise we have a CDPR situationID: h0mngrm
Guerilla and SP are great but still a tier below in comparison. They still make generic Ubisoft-like open world games. Nothing more.ID: h0luh2o
I love sucker punch too.ID: h0lpywu
That’s not what trilogy means. Think you’re going for trioID: h0lqv4q
Thanks lol I'm an idiotID: h0mftf8
What about polyphony digital?
GT is the biggest selling franchise on Playstation and was one of the first games to show off the technical prowess of the first party studios.
It also influenced pretty every other racing game that came after it.ID: h0mg6d6
Are you trying to say that they are on the same level as ND, Insomniac and Santa Monica Studio?
Oh yeah. Temporarily inject me.
i thought Miles Morales looked good in Performance mode, so this is exciting newsID: h0lu9hz
Miles Morales in Performance was god-like. Yes, Quality is native 4K, but the 30 FPS is jarring after you're used to 60. The Performance RT was slightly too low a resolution for me for -what I perceived were just- a couple of reflections and different lighting.
I'm very sensitive to resolution, but not yet to the impact of ray-tracing. Perhaps that's just me, but it's such a recent technology that just hasn't "WOOW'"ed me just yet! Performance modes made by Insomniac are the way to go for me!ID: h0lvanv
Yeah I don't get why a 1080p+RT performance mode is in such high demand. Isn't the point of a performance mode to cut down on some of the most demanding visual effects to hit 60fps while retaining as much of the visual fidelity as possible?
By forcing RT you have to make a lot of sacrifices else where to hit your 60fps target and probably also downgrade the quality of the RT itself.
Unless you only play on a 1080p display I don't get why you'd want to force raytracing and downgrade everything else.ID: h0miemr
You will only get wowed if you own a rtx card right now. Cyberpunk 2077 likes really good with all the settings maxed out. But at the same time CD Project Red didn't go hard on how lightning is usually implemented but its nice.
Glad to hear they are focusing on 60 FPS. I how all PS5 title get a 60 FPS mode.ID: h0m56fx
I think a lot of people wouldnt buy a game that was 30fps, including me. Iv been on PS4 Pro / PC for a while now and made the full switch to console in hopes it would be that way, so far it has and i think majority prefer it.
What is temporally injected 4K?ID: h0lmput
Found this from one of the Insomniac guys on Spider-Man:
"Temporal injection is a technique we use to create a full 4K image on the PS4 Pro without rendering every pixel on every single frame,” said Hastings. "We render slightly more than half the pixels, then “inject” them into a full-sized 4K image. By slightly jittering the locations of the rendered pixels from frame to frame, we can reconstruct a very accurate anti-aliased full 4K image over a handful of frames."ID: h0ln329
Being a game developer is nuts. Thanks for sharing this.ID: h0lurao
Basically what AMD created in partnership with Epic and UE 5. (TSR)
Hopefully it’s as good.ID: h0m04sj
Similar to how dlss works, except it's based on heuristics as opposed to learned rules, and it's in house so they have full controlID: h0mhzr9
Always knew those temporal injections would give you the jittersID: h0lqujq
Basically an upscaling solution by Insomniac games. It has worked really well in the past. I remember Digital Foundry almost being fooled by the implementation for Ratchet and Clank on PS4 Pro.
What about rt + performance?
I hope we get performance RT mode
Awesome! That’s definitely going to be the mode to use
Can't wait for tempura shrimp gaming.
Fuck yes. Miles morales looks super good on my 4k TV. I love you insomniac
for some reason I have never played ratchet and clank. Pre-ordered this one though! 60fps all the way
the native resolution of this should be obvious if it has raytracing then it will be 1440p max as a base but if rt isnt used in this mode at all im expecting 1800p temporaly injected to 4k
Does it have 30fps mode?ID: h0lrg12
Good. Loved Miles Morales in Fidelity mode.
Can someone eli5 what "temporally injected" means?ID: h0m7vl8
"Temporal injection is a technique we use to create a full 4K image...without rendering every pixel on every single frame,” said Hastings. "We render slightly more than half the pixels, then “inject” them into a full-sized 4K image. By slightly jittering the locations of the rendered pixels from frame to frame, we can reconstruct a very accurate anti-aliased full 4K image over a handful of frames."

Good, now temporally inject it into my veins.
Obviously I want 4k 60fps with Ray tracing. I would guess most do.
And obviously, everyone wants something different as secondary choice.
I guess this is my order of preference - and for every game I’ll choose closest available to position 1True 4k 60fps ray tracing Upscaled 4k 60fps ray tracing (“Performance RT”) 1080p 60fps ray tracing 4k 60fps no ray tracing 1080p 60fps 4k 30fps
Something like that.
When 120hz is an option I’ll choose game by game. But most of the time 120hz is worth it for me to drop resolution.
Choices are best I think!
Insomniac makes my two favorites series and they put so much care in to it. This is why they’re the only company I pre order from.
I’d love an FPS+ mode at 1080p
Fidelity is 4k30 with RT, not 4k60.
They later added Performance RT which was 60fps with RT (At a lower quality than in Fidelity mode) and a lower base Resolution.
Thanks, edited my post. Yes 4k30fps with fidelity mode with Ray tracing. Performance mode was 60fps without ray tracing. And performance rt had 60fps and Ray tracing which I enjoyed the most.
This. I want both, and I’m happy to pay for it with resolution.
The game looks so good, that’s how I want to experience it the first time I play. It’s the reason I haven’t preordered; if I need to wait for a patch to enable that mode, I’ll wait.
