Favorite Characters You Only Learned About Due To Outside Tie-Ins

I want to thank whoever it was at Capcom that insisted on including this obscure Lovecraftian horror in their Marvel fighting games who only appeared in three stories in thirty years.
I would like to know though, who was it at Capcom that knew about him? Did they have somebody deliberately go look for nonhumanoid Marvel characters? Or was somebody at Capcom a hardcore Dr. Strange fan?

ID: gq612efIirc the majority of the cast was human shaped and they wanted to mix things up a bit. One dev saw a wierdo tentacle monster in a Marvel reference book and was like "that guy."

Samus. I first learned about her through original Smash Brothers, she was my main. I got into Metroid proper when Prime and Fusion both released.

I didn't really play Jacky or Sarah until Dead or Alive. Sure I knew they existed, but why not go for Wolf, Kage, or Jeffery?

Oh fuck, there's totally a reference to this in (super vague spoilers)a space game (less vague spoilers)Seriously, don't click if you don't want it spoiled, it's a multiplayer space exploration game and the reveal is super worth going unspoiled (spoilers)Pulsar.
It's a random event, so one of your jumps might just pop you into this thing's lair, and its eye opens, which is 10x bigger than your ship, and you can actually fight it. It's super cool. Highly recommend Pulsar if you have 4 friends to play it with.
Had no idea it was a reference until just now.
