- ‘Last Of Us’ HBO series adds Nico Parker To Cast

I could see them expanding Sarah's role a bit. They've said that while they're obviously going to hit the same plot points as the game, they aren't going to go about it exactly the same way. So instead of the prologue playing out the night Joel comes home, they could instead expand that section to show how Joel was as a dad. As Neil has mentioned, it's important to take advantage of this format rather than trying to just shove a game into a TV show. They can take things slower and let the characters breathe a bit more since a steady flow of action isn't necessary.
ID: h3loq9zID: h3lx773Just as long as they don't pull a The Stand and start the series in media res while relying on flashbacks to fill in the whole backstory. Watching everything go to shit in real time was critical for setting the tone of this story.
ID: h3m0ja8Personally, I am not a huge fan of this idea. Flashbacks, yes, but not to show Ellie as Sarah 2.0. Even with what little we saw of Sarah I never got the impression that she was like Ellie in the slightest. I think in Joel's mind they would have made great friends or sisters, but presenting it like they had were similar kind of cheapens Joel's and Ellie's relationship. As if the only reason they bonded would be that she replaces his daughter. Just my two cents.
ID: h3m3te0Feature length pilot, 20-30 minutes just Joel being a father (unseen from the game), 15-20 representation of the Sarah sequence from the game’s prologue in the house and Joel’s birthday and the 35-40 minutes of everything going to shit and ending you know how
ID: h3mtg4tYeah, I could see them just doing that. I definitely expect the whole first episode to just be about Joel's life rather than going into the outbreak, aside from the ending of the episode obviously. Similarly I expect them to incorporate American Dreams into the series. It's probably the one piece of TLoU media that even fans have the least amount of knowledge of. But there are some important things in it. It's where Ellie not only meets Riley for the first time, but also where she meets Marlene for the first time. At least meets her in a fashion where she actually remembers her. While she had Ellie after Anna died, she soon after had members of the Fireflies put her in a QZ because it's too dangerous for a child to be around them. So Ellie had no knowledge of her until they meet in that comic. I've seen people who think that Marlene basically raised Ellie, when that's just not the case.
There are a lot of stories that they could expand on with the show. We could see more of the relationship between Joel and Tess. They could show us more of how Joel and Tommy survived immediately after the outbreak, the stuff that gave Tommy nightmares. Although that also might be something that's better left to out imagination. But in general they can do stuff that still allows them to follow the main story beats while still giving longtime fans something new to take in.
ID: h3m47vaI can see the whole first episode being about their relationship and ending with her death
ID: h3mls2bI was wondering if that should be the pilot ending, no doubt it'd hook people- though it'd be interesting if they saved the 20 years later sequence for the second episode.
ID: h3mgvevI’m expecting Neil Druckmann to go full on TWD Comics to TWD AMC with The Last of Us and I’m all for that!
ID: h3nbo8mAs someone who’s never seen the comic or the show, What do you mean by that?
ID: h3mc6pwWell, there isn't honestly a lot there in the game, if you take out the combat sections. TLOU1 was honestly really brief in terms of actual plot.
The writers for this show have to really go out and create quite a bit, if they want this to run for any length of time.
ID: h3nbmoqHonestly I have to disagree with you. The gameplay sections have crucial story beats that you miss if you just watch the cutscenes. You need the gameplay to understand the full story and see bits of character development.
ID: h3nbm8yMy biggest hope is that whatever new additions they add actually service the story. We’ve all seen adaptations add random ass things that do nothing for the overall narrative, and just serve to pad the runtime. But if they can add things that actually flesh out the characters even more (Joel/Sarah’s relationship is a great example of that) then I’m completely on board.

I cannot wait to see what HBO does with this world and those characters. I am beyond hyped for this.
ID: h3mutt9I am really looking forward to what HBO and Mazon do with this. Chernobyl was amazing and pretty bleak, it really drove home the realities of the disaster and the aftermath that followed. I think it parallels TLOU in some ways and mirrors how the government attempted to handle the situation. And it will also open up the story to people who don't know about it, or haven't had the chance to play the game. Can't wait.
ID: h3lltcsEspecially with Craig Mazin involved. The tone he set for Chernobyl was chefs kiss
ID: h3lp3yaAnyone that has not seen Chernobyl is missing out on one of the best mini series’ in the last decade or so. The atmosphere, the writing, the tension, and the brutal unforgiving world that Craig Mazin helped create. This is a big reason I’m excited that this is an HBO show. And so far an amazing cast, and on a network that’s known for delivering the goods. Can’t wait.
ID: h3m7rhnIt’s wild that the “Chernobyl” guy is also the “Hangover” and “Scary Movie” guy.

This is getting ready to film in my city. Apparently Pedro has been spotted shopping around in some stores like Best Buy. Would be cool to run into him
ID: h3m02pnGood Luck. I saw Josh Brolin in the toothbrush aisle at a Target in Albuquerque once
ID: h3m0cavI fuckin' knew that guy had teeth
ID: h3mnns8dude was so embarassed he had to kill half of the universe
ID: h3nciakDamn, I just found out that Pedro was cast as Joel! Great choice.
ID: h3pmwohI’m curious why you thought there was a picture of him in the thumbnail before you learned that.
-
The more I see it, the more I can see Pedro Pascal as Joel. Also, will this series be a direct copy and paste adaption of the game, or will there be some differences?
ID: h3nbtqiMajor story beats will be followed but will deviate greatly in certain parts.
ID: h3p9brbIt’s adapting between two different mediums of course theres going to be many differences
-
Can’t wait for this
-
the characters in the game feel so fleshed out and real that it is going to be too weird to see other people portraying those same characters.
-
Is that the guy that got his skull crushed in by clegane
ID: h3ntonmWatch Narcos for more of him
ID: h3nimrgYep, he looks decent for the role. I kinda feel like he looks kinda young but then again they can def pull of an older look with him.
ID: h3nkqkhA few grey streaks and an unkept beard will easily age him up
ID: h3p3h1nMore recently known as The Mandolorian!
ID: h3ogygbHe also was the guy who flew around space protecting a magical baby.

Shouldn’t casting happen before shooting starts? Why do they decide on casting even during principal photography?
ID: h3lnjwdShooting hasn't started, it starts next week. But it's not uncommon for it to happen during production either because things are usually shot out of order. Besides, public announcements can happen much later than it actually occurs internally.
ID: h3lqeqtLast point is ding ding ding. They do this continue to build hype. They’ll continue doing it as the show is filmed even after everything is cast as well.
-
Not everything needs a movie or tv series adaption
ID: h3nqf0yAnd yet you will watch it
ID: h3nsxtkI’ll look at the reviews, if it gets good reviews then maybe. I’d be more likely to watch a spin off bit based on the games story or characters
The games look good and are story driven enough, I can’t see any series even coming close due to series production costs vs games.

This is pretty cool, and I'm excited for the series, but this isn't really related to ps5.
ID: h3lt717It’s related to a Playstation IP and is relevant in this sub.
ID: h3ltlgfPlus the fact that the first game is rumored to be getting a PS5 remake which could be tied to the launch of this show for all we know
ID: h3luoj3Eh I'll take the downvotes. I understand it's a ps in, but it isn't ps5 exclusive and really has nothing to do with ps5, maybe
Either way I'm excited for it, sorry to anyone I offended. -
I feel like she should have been ellie
-
Yay, more awful casting choices
ID: h3mkm7vWhat's wrong with the casting choices?
ID: h3n218iHe thinks chauvin is not a murderer so you can have an idea why he doesn't like the casting.
-
Am i the only one who doesnt giva a fuck about this show? You cant recreate a masterpiece
-
Who says they are trying to recreate this?
-
They’re obviously not trying to recreate it at all
-
I’m excited for my non gamer girlfriend to experience the storyline. It’s better than most shows we watch.
-
I am excited at the prospect of a very good video game TV/film adaptation. If it sucks, okay, I watch the first episode of many a shitty TV series and it's no skin off my back. But if it's good? Why not watch? I don't see why one would bother taking a negative stance toward people using their own money to do a thing you're not interested in. Just don't watch lol
-
I have friends and family who just don't play games, but they'll watch the shit out of this show. I'm excited for them to finally experience this masterpiece.
-
I don't think it's necessary but if it's going to happen, Craig Mazin's involvement is a good sign.

I just hope the story goes exactly the same as the game and then see if they still get the same sh1tstorm for what happens at the start of the sequel...
-
They nailed it with Joel. Ellie, not so much (way too young looking)
-
Will it? That's too bad.

My guess is they use interstitial flashback scenes to show how Ellie reminds Joel of Sarah.
