- Terra by Yoshitaka Amano

This was the first piece of Amano art I ever saw, and remains for my money one of the best
-
I love Amano's art. Could just live with these pieces.

I remember this art being in the Nintendo Power issue that covered FF3 and it being in the strategy guide. I loved it because it was so unique
ID: h54e1dmYeah, I remember that FFVI was the first time where we were "really" seeing Amano's work first-hand. I know he did the monster designs of FF1, which are almost 8-bit "scans" of his artwork, but at the time we didn't know it. When we first saw all of the characters illustrated by Amano in Nintendo Power, we were finally witnessing something truly fantastic.

Final Fantasy VI art is amazing! Plus Nobuo Uematsu did a great job in the soundtrack department as you can listen on my pinned post.
This game must get a proper remake! Who's with me???
ID: h53rcxeI don’t want a remake. I just want to relive the feeling of being 10 and playing this game again for the first time.
ID: h53ifbvI would take a FF7R type remake. I don’t know how well it’d translate but I’d play and love every fucking minute of it.
ID: h53i000Agree with you completely on Amano’s art work and Uematsu’s soundtrack; both are flawless. Thanks for posting them!
I’m more ambivalent on the remake idea. For me the game is perfect, and I would be really happy just with a new platform re-release, perhaps with some minor upgrades if anything. But any chance to revisit the game would be welcome!
ID: h540vtyI would love to see a game with art in this style.
ID: h53w9dbI’d love a remake in the style of Octopath Traveler.

The FFVI Amano art defines my adolescence. Hell, I even got one of his Moogle drawings as a tattoo. Thanks for the nostalgia 😀
-
Just out of curiosity, what is she resting her arms on??
ID: h53sm9oShe’s doing a prairie dog impression 😛
ID: h53mu4oMaybe she's inside the magitek armor.

Please please. I just want a remake of this game 🙁

Terra will just never be Terra to me without turquoise hair. That being said, Amano's art is gorgeous and I love it.
-
Amano is quite good artists but IMO his works rarely work as character designs mainly due how monothematic they are. Always felt that using his artworks was very pretentious.
-
I really want a FFVI remake
-
I see Terra by Amano, I dread reading the comments regarding her hair.
-
Lovely
-
Terra and her pet emu, trained to be sat upon.
-
If only.. if only she was in Smash.
-
I adore this piece and this style
-
One day when I can afford a big house, I want to have an entire wall of Amano art in chronological order in say the hallway. Would be sick

I kind of wonder if this old piece is being posted and upvoted now because the younger generation is finding it now or because an old timer like myself is reminiscing at the beauty of this piece. I hope it's both, because there's a timelessness to his art that extends beyond the traditional reach of video games. The slender beauty of Terra as she sits on the ugly and dead metal magitek of the Empire is a wonderful contrast that can captivate anyone's imagination, even someone who never plays video games.
Amano took inspiration from classical Japanese woodcut artists, western art nouveau, and others. Some of his works remind me of German artists like Gustav Klimt.
For me, posting this artwork of Terra is like posting the Mona Lisa, because I expect that "everyone" has seen it. Yet, it's somehow enjoying its day in the spotlight of the sub as if it were new and interesting. This brings me much joy.
