- I really wish they wouldn't stopped putting these at the beginning...

That and I miss the announcer voice saying, “RESIDENT...EVILLLLL!”
ID: h86lypiID: h86nn62I think he does say two. In OG re3 im almost positive he doesnt say 3
ID: h86ntmwI believe in 2 the announcer does say it but then they don’t say the chronology in CV or 3. I thought I remember the announcer saying the 4 in RE 4 though? Can’t remember
ID: h872dp8Ngl, even tho I don’t really like Operation Raccoon City. The game’s announcer’s voice is the most sinister among the series.
ID: h87d1n3It's why when I play the Remake 2, I have the original sound activated, that DLC. That voice was always just so, oomph. So satisfying. I also really miss that one Capcom intro, with the green boxes and it does that dramatic BEDEDEDUUUMMMM sound. That was so sexy.

Might be a legal requirement from the regulatory bodies.

It’s the marketing equivalent of the Parental Advisory warning on albums; it’s there to make the younger audience want to buy and play it.
ID: h867qzoI don't know how well it worked, since I already bought it by the time I would see this screen. But it did get me pumped!
-
It does set the mood pretty well doesn't it?
ID: h86u9ezAs a kid, you shat your pants at this text alone!

I bought the resident evil 2 board game and the first item you see when you open the box is just that image in full color. Nice little touch of nostalgia

It's unlikely it'll come back. It looks like a loading screen and you know how these new consoles feel about loading screens.
ID: h86j0wyDid you not see the one minute door opening sequence posted here the other day?
Edit: for the uninitiated.

I'm sorry I didn't catch 1 post in this subreddit of 100k+ people. And, I don't use reddit that much. I have a life ya know?
It looks like an old door. Who knows how "well" they maintenance it?
You say that like thats a bad thing
I guess I'll have to get used to not pulling out my phone when a game loads. Not that I can get my hands on a new console either way. Or just wait for a next gen rockstar game if that even exists.
Violence yay
That’s going to be kinda tough with the new consoles. I played the PS5 version of Village and everything loaded in like 2 seconds. I had to watch a video from somebody else to see the loading screen.
My mom wouldn’t let me have any resident evil games when I was a kid and she finally got me RE1 for Christmas when I was 12 or 13. When I saw that warning I was like fuck yes the wait has been worth it.
The Resident Evil 2 and 3 board games have a replica of this screen printed on a page so it's the first thing you see when you open the box. I thought that was a cute detail.
As a kid these warnings only made me more curious about these games.
As a child, this screen was how I knew the game wouldn’t be lame.
Well, back in the days, there was no rating for videogames so they had to put those kind of warnings, but today (with PEGI, USK, CERO, etc.) there's no need of it.
I mean, it's cool and everything but it had a purpose back then.
The ESRB was already rating games when the RE series began. I remember seeing it on CVX and RE3 even though both had official “Mature” ratings.
Yeah but Europe and Japan didn't had a videogame rating system until early 2000s
It makes sense when Resident evil's gore stopped being explicit and they took out all of the violence /s
Bad English, I really don’t understand the post.
Let me help... Blah, blah, blah, blah. Yeah... Blah, blah, blah... Blah, blah. Quote from, Al Bundy.
Yeah, back as a kid using my brother's playstation, it made me feel like I was doing bad shit haha
Always set the mood for me.
I miss it cause its so hillarious "this contains violence and gore" in a game about zombies
Miss that and the video showing random plot points followed by the Iconic Resident Evil. Also miss the random eye on the menu. I think the last to do that was Rev 2?!?
One of the more charming and fitting examples of the industry responding to the moral panic over games in the 90's. Actually kind of made the game a little more intimidating at the start, too. Seems pretty quaint nowadays.
Better than putting it at the end so Karen's can try to boycott it...
Seeing that warning before every play session IMMEDIATELY set me in the mood for spooky shit.
If they didn't people would use that on them and sue
I really wish they'd add the classics to Steam, I'd buy them right away.
I think they stopped because the standard of gore has changed and what was gruesome then is normal now in video games.
Imagine in RE9 "game suitable for everyone"
me : AYO! WTF!
It's sort of neccessary in case kids get their hands on a RE game which they shouldn't unless supervised by a parent. It's mostly for the parents to see this message.
I'm pretty sure, its for the sissy kids. So they don't complain, to their parents, about getting nightmares... I don't think any parent would sit there, and watch their kid play games.
I dont get why they cant still do this. Even though the guy isnt working for them anymore... Its just a sound clip.
If you play on PC, all the RE Engine titles (except VII for some reason) have mods available that reinstate this screen!
Here's a link to the one for Village!
Shit that looks crisp what are you playing it on?
i mean, im pretty sure they need too, but also, believe it or not, there are some people who dont know what resident evil is, and when a new one comes out, intrest spikes, and someone who has never played one before might pick one up, or get it free somewhere, and need that warning. its the same reason you should warn for flashing lights, loud noises, ect.
annnnd thank you for the new desktop wallpaper 🙂
RE never really had much gore into it, and the violence wasn't that hardcore. Feels like a lie reading that warning every time.
Not much? Dude in 1998 RE2 was the goriest game officially released on ps1. Nothing came close
Silent Hill had that guy with his torso ripped open against a fence. RE2, I don't remember being so effective on the gore aside occasionally being able to blow a Zombie's leg off.
In the OG RE2, did the announcer say, “Resident Evil…TWO”, or just “Resident Evil”? I don’t have the OG right now and I’m not sure if this is a Mandela effect or what.
