- [RUMOR] Eurogamer: "Sony plans to potentially offer Crunchyroll as part of a more expensive premium PlayStation Plus offering"
-
I just hope they improve the UI and I currently have a monthly sub so that would also be an amazing bonus.
-
They want to merge funimation with crunchyroll, will probably be a completely new app.
-
It'd be nice if they just included it in regular PS+
-
I am as casual of an anime fan as they come but I would legit subscribe to an add on like that given the price isn't too crazy.
-
I mean fine but don’t raise the price of PS plus
-
I already have a Crunchyroll subscription, why would I need this?
-
They should step up on the offering for the existing price instead of trying making new tiers.
-
Now my controller will die while i watch dragonball z
-
Hmm. I pay for both PS+ and Crunchyroll so I guess that means I'll save some money every month 🙂
-
Lol fuck Sony and their greedy asses
-
Greedy for adding options to a service?
-
No no, for the way they’ve handled the PS5 and customers. This would be almost cool if I did t feel like it would be a nickel and dime thing they’ve already tried similar with
-
If jim ryan is really thinking this is the gamepass answer he was talking about then he is making a stupid move. Funny how sony has been all about the games this generation but then people are supporting this crap. Invest in gamepass alternative. that's what people are asking for and not some anime.
-
PS plus is barely worth it as is. They have raised the price multiple times without really adding anything. Why not just make it a standard offering.
-
Suckers- every company
-
They'll have to offer something better than that. I can stream animation for free why would I pay extra for PS+? Sony needs to offer this for free and follow suit with Game Pass. I have both systems and Game Pass kicks the shit out of PS+. It's basically a game rental service.
-
And zero fucks were given that day.
-
Eh
-
First Discord and now Crunchyroll? Sony making smart moves!
-
Be cool if they didn’t censor all the anime. Oh well.
-
meh i prefer just using free websites
-
Wtf is that?
-
If they combine this in an affordable package with PSNow, this is a day one cop for me. At that point, I don't even need to buy games ngl.
-
Yeah, bundling more services into one higher subscription seems to be a easy way to earn more money.
They could bundle PS Plus, PS Now, Crunchyroll/Funimation and something like EA Play into one single subscription, like what MS is doing with Game Pass Ultimate
-
The statement on the Crunchyroll acquisition said they were working on merging with funimation into one app
-
PS Now and Crunchyroll aren't even available in like half of the regions PS Plus is available in. They first gotta work on that...
-
True, ugh just another pipe dream I guess.
-
Sometimes, I forget Sony is a Japanese company. But, the way anime is flooding the west, I'm probably a minority in not caring about anime at this point.
-
It should be part of the normal PS+ Offering. We don't get much with PS+ as is.
-
Might be keen, depends on how the licensing is handled for old Anime titles I want to rewatch. When I was a CR member a long time ago, I wasn't able to watch Escaflowne as it wasn't available for my region(New Zealand). That was a deal breaker, & I ended my subscription. Since Sony owns a majority of the Anime licences now, I hope region locks finally becomes obsolete in this medium.
-
It would be a game changer (or game returner?) and an Xbox destroyer if Sony offered a free PSN option that enabled multiplayer gaming as they had for the PS3. You could then introduce paid tiers for extra services that include PS now, movie streaming and potentially even lump the current free monthly games into that as well.
-
if Sony offered a free PSN option that enabled multiplayer gaming as they had for the PS3
lmao, that’s not going to happen, the cats already out of the bag. They make a TON of money off people having to pay just to play online. They aren’t going to give that up now that they’re used to it.
-
Pretty simple revenue model to generate actually, all you need to do is make an assumption that you lose 40% of your users to the free model and then tier your pricing per month to make up the difference. As long as you're making more than the total revenue per year on year you still come out ahead long term. Moving to a $15 a month subscription as a baseline paid service with increasing tiers and spend for greater features would most definitely generate more revenue than the current model they have in place today.
You would also see a subsequent revenue boost from more people who are casual gamers picking PlayStation over Xbox for the fact that online play is free (as it was for PS3), and given that Sony now owns more and more studios and has more partnerships with third-party studios and game developers it'd be more than easy to pull revenue from those players through microtransactions and cosmetic items.
I personally know at least 10 people that stopped playing online when PSN became a paid service simply because they don't game online regularly enough to make it worth it. If you extrapolate that out to a global user base you would assume that those users would come back which again would generate an uplift in revenue from console sales as well as at least a subset of that new audience paying for in-game items.
-
No one cares about that weeb shit, they need a game pass competitor besides NOW.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I wish they would give us a family plan option. Similar to Nintendo's. I'd pay more a year to have that....but I also understand why they haven't.
-
Eh...no thanks.
-
Hmm
-
Anime is great but if they could offer Sony movies and shows that would be even better. Currently I have prime video and it's one of the more confusing and lackluster video streaming apps.
I think Sony has a strong catalog already - we just need to be able to watch from the console.
-
I’d pay extra just to not have anime anywhere on my ps5 screen
-
why though
-
I hate to break it to em but it looks like Funimation and Crunchyroll are gonna be bundled into one soon
-
Given how worthless ps+ has been lately I’m much more inclined to just sign up for crunchyroll separately and cancel ps+
-
No interest. I barely watch streaming services as it is. Just give me a greatly revamped PS Now that's more in line with Game Pass and available worldwide, even without day one first party games.
I wouldn't even mind if being subscribed to a revamped PS Now gave you a discount on first party games when they launched.
-
I wonder how this would work if you are already a PS member and will be untiil 2023 for example.. free upgrade or something like Gamepass Ultimate if you spend $1, it converts all your gold...
-
You will just be able to upgrade it for the additional extra cost I guess.
-
This sucks. People wanted expanded gaming options for Playstation plus. Our gamepass alternative. Not some crappy anime
