I like the implication that he can only play this while Pikachu sleeps or else he'll be heavily judged.
ID: haeyg5nID: haf253fEither that or he farted as he was reaching for it and didn't want to wake the electric rat.
ID: haf8wxrProbably caught him one time gazing at the horse for too long.

In an alternate universe, original Game Boys apparently have a backlight.
ID: hadu9hwWith all kids running in woods Alt Nintendo knew that would be a killer feature.
ID: hadyopxA solar powered GB and a long life battery. Noice.
ID: haeta8oBut then they'd still opt to sell worm lights and that one light that also had a big square magnifying glass.
ID: haegwvgI think (naturally, Japan only) there actually was a Game Boy released with a frontlight. I guess though that Nintendo at the time thought actually seeing your screen was only for the Japan ruling class.
EDIT: Here it is if anyone's curious.
ID: haei0mxJapanese bastards refusing to share their handheld gaming backlight technology.
ID: haehm96Worm lights were an absolute game changer.
ID: haeg0c3At first I was like, “how do you know there is a back light?” Then I got a memory from the early 90s of me asking my dad if we could turn the light on in the car so I could play Super Mario Land as the Sun had almost completely set. There was no save back then and I was on like level 3! Dad said no 🙁
ID: haegx5xYou didn’t try and play the game by the intermittent flashes of street lights!? So… many… headaches…
ID: haei8myDid he tell you it was illegal? Mine did, I always got sick trying to play Pokemon under the flashes of the streetlights
ID: haeil5gI was gonna say...
I remember the flashlight. Then when the color was out, I remember the swirly see through light under my blanket.
ID: haenlk3The Pokédex had a backlight. Ash was able to use it at night.

Selects Run
Bear uses Maul
ID: hae46m1I’ve seen this movie! It’s called Grizzly Man.
ID: haelkovTimothy Treadwell didn't run though. He saw the Bear then used the option Set-up Camp.
ID: haeegucI thought it was The Revenant?
ID: haek3byOh no! Trainer is bleeding out!
BEEBOO BEEBOO BEEBOO BEEBOO BEEBOO BEEBOO BEEBOO BEEBOO BEEBOOBEEBOO BEEBOO BEEBOO
God I hated that noise.
ID: haem72dThen they remixed the shit out of it in gen 5 just to remove it in gen 6 almost entirely. Such a shame
ID: haewrpeTRAINER used PLAY DEAD!
It’s not very effective…

Real-world animals have been mentioned a number of times to exist in the world of Pokémon. Most often, they are mentioned in relation to a Pokémon category. For example, Pikachu is known as the "Mouse Pokémon" and was directly referred to in the anime as an "electric mouse", hinting that real-world mice exist in the Pokémon world. Other than this, all other mentions of animals are rare.
In "Ash Catches a Pokémon" Pidgeotto is seen eating a regular worm before being captured by Ash.
In "The Water Flowers of Cerulean City" fish can be seen in the fish tanks inside the Gym
In "Battle Aboard the St. Anne" a cooked lobster can be seen as food served on the ship.
In season 1, Episode 20, there is also a real ferret fighting a ekans.
ID: haeocd5The stuff in the anime is just a case of "Early Installment Weirdness". They never seem to reference animals once the anime fell into it's groove near the second half of the first season.
ID: haeoi19Basically, the last reference to a real world animal was in 1997, 24 years ago. They’ve long been retconned out since.
The only thing to survive is insects like a flies or worms.
ID: haeo6yzSo like, how do animals fit into the Pokemon tree of life? IIRC, in the Pokemon universe, humans are essentially Pokemon too, evolved from the same root.
ID: haeqj0bThe slave trade was different when it came down to turn based combat and Pokeballs
ID: haete9aMaybe a "mouse" is just a term for an animal family used in scientific classification. Like canine refers to dogs, wolves, foxes etc
ID: haeoku1Do Pluto and goofy next

Every time I see this it reminds me to actually feel awe in nature
ID: haeabn4every time i see it i am reminded that the gameboy really needed a backlight

Oh would ya' look at that! Just Look at it. Are ya lookin' at it? Just look at it
ID: haehq8eDon’t just touch it, look at it!

In an alternate universe a gameboy is playing a horse trying to catch a pikachu.
-
I like the idea of Pokémon. You catch wild animals. Train them up by beating other wild animals to death. Then you duel in animal fights. Some underground, other public. Sometimes you beat a kids favorite animal. Other times a professional trainer.
If you catch one you don't like. You simply just take it away of it's free life, and let it be in a pokeball, which is uploaded into a computer. Where it can be until you maybe one day need it.
