Why is Mirages bar failing?

Shouldn't it be making tons of money since it's owned and operated by a well-known/well-loved legend? Wouldn't people be lining up to go there?

There's also a few times where the legends meet up at his bar, either to have drinks or plan, wouldn't fans want to frequent his bar to possibly meet a legend?

I like to think he forgot to promote it and since he’s in the apex games he doesn’t have the time to run it so he loses money and the only reason why he goes back to the games is to earn enough money to reopen it but keeps forgetting to promote his bar

Yea in my head he's bad at managing it because of other commitments so it's open only odd hours, isn't always well stocked etc.

He also spent all of his money on mirage voyage

Yeah and the bar doesn't have urinals and people have to pee in jars

Iirc it's not that his bar isn't popular or bringing in cash. Mirage loves flashy party's and over the top events (like his "Mirage Voyage" ship) and has been living beyond his means. He had to get a roommate because he's spent so much money partying he's now in financial trouble. I'm sure he he's got rent on the bar, payments left on his ship and God know what other debt.

Could be that it’s a bit of a dump, according to Lifeline. But I personally think his popularity and the possibility of meeting Legends there would make that not matter for people.

I think it’s more to do with Mirage having poor financial responsibility, and having Wraith take over things that way. She arranged Rampart to be Mirage’s roommate, thus saving money on the rent. I think she sold/rented out the Mirage Voyage to make money and I imagine she runs the books. Maybe not but she’s certainly helped him out.

I like the idea that the Apex Games told Mirage he could do whatever he wanted with his section of the games. So he bought the most expensive yacht he could find and brought in Christmas trees from other planets and hired multiple teams to customise it. And it completely broke the Apex Games budget, so now management are cutting his salary until he can pay them back for Mirage Voyage. That’s why they got rid of his section of the games

I imagine that it’s partly because of him not having free time or management skills but also because he absolutely is the kind of person to give away free drinks ALL the time to anyone he even remotely knows. He also probably buys rounds for the place way too often to turn a profit

Consider this, Mirage is kind of unbearable to be around. He's a smooth talker who tries to hard to be funny, that kind of personality can be grating for most people.

I get that he is kinda annoying but he is still extremely widely liked.

Charisma and fame may help bring some people in, but it doesn't translate into good business management.

He is also hurting on the inside with his Mom's health failing, it could be affecting it as well.

I heard his bar is not really in a good shape so people are not interested in going in it...

9 : Anonymous2021/03/07 19:56 ID: gq4q6uk

I’m pretty sure it’s because Mirage isn’t good at money managing, as seen in buying the Voyage and the season 6 comic

Lifeline says it smells so bad (like old boots and seawater) that her and octane left the bar, as soon as they walked in on their first trip to solace. Other patrons might have the same experience.

Wraith has been skimming off the top for years. Any time he gets close to realizing it, she throws a new roommate at him and pops into the void

I don't think it's that much of a leap to just assume that Mirage is shit at managing money. That's more or less been alluded to with the whole Mirage Voyage stuff. You can be raking it in from a business but if you don't spend the money well your business can easily fail.

13 : Anonymous2021/03/07 20:23 ID: gq4u3o1

Most businesses that fail do so because of poor book keeping. Watching your overhead- income in and expenses out- accounting and all that. I’m not so sure Whitt does a great job pointing over his books- he bought a bar so he could be the cool guy with a bar and have people over to party with him

14 : Anonymous2021/03/08 01:02 ID: gq5t9yu

I dont think mirage would be good at managing a buisiness.

15 : Anonymous2021/03/08 04:05 ID: gq6cq40

I could absolutely see him giving away too much free stuff and being emotionally manipulated into fking his business up over and over

16 : Anonymous2021/03/08 04:03 ID: gq6cj4f

Iirc Mirage said he blew all of his money on his party boat which is why he was in debt and needed to get a roomate

17 : Anonymous2021/03/08 06:31 ID: gq6p13u

The Mirage voyage rent and cost of docking has ruined him financially.

Even businesses that pull in a ton of revenue will fail if you dont reinvest it wisely - and I get the sense that Mirage isn't exactly the type to be watching his books, carefully monitoring expenditures and where money is being wasted, etc. Also, bars actually dont make that much profit in the end, the margins are honestly pretty thin compared to tons of other types of businesses, the food industry in general tends to operate on razor thin margins. Add to the fact that he makes impulsive purchases like... a massive yacht that is floating all over the Outlands, and it would make sense that even if his bar pulls in a good amount of money that it would be kinda precarious
