By 90% speed I mean right when the audio icon changes from 2 bars to one. The difference in speed in minimal but the amount of noise generated is significantly lower than at full speed. This also helps differenciate the sound of your own footsteps vs other players as typically others will either be slow walking or at 100%. i noticed large improvement in my gameplay since I started doing this, I hope it will help you as well

A useful tip? On this sub? Is it christmas?
ID: hbuyx93ID: hbv2zc6I think people are too busy being mad at not being able to rush techlight for a gpu 15 times in a row
ID: hbv0c6oNo the cheating complaints come in a few days when people start complaining that "hackers" are walking around without making as much noise as they should.
ID: hbv77soOr an exit camping complaint
ID: hbv3bm8No but Hell has frozen over!!
-
(a few weeks later) "walk at 80% speed because everyone else walks at 90% speed...."
ID: hbv4x8jSecretly this was Nikita's plot, slow down combat by making everyone crawl everywhere!
ID: hbv9etuif the game slows down enough then the netcode will finally be able to keep up!
ID: hbv4q7vI’m going to start low crawling to get a head off the curve here
ID: hbv9gbzi'm already clipping inside the ground and moving everywhere backwards.
-
Big tip, actually. Because sound range is built on how loud you are if you're one step slower you can hear someone at normal speed just before they can hear you!
I usually go one tick slower when I'm walking up to and entering a building I assume someone's in.
-
Downvoting so people don't see this pro tip
/s nice tip
ID: hbvajcrnice tip
That's what she said
-
But I wanna get places, thats why I jam a coin into my shift key, so the sprinting need not stop.
ID: hbv3qk5Full speed full send.
-
What is walk? Is that what happens when your shift key stops working?
ID: hbv9ip2Walk is the thing you do when you have killed the entire server with your shift key and is 90kg heavy.
-
Good catch, I had noticed that this takes a good portion of the "thump" out of your steps, for a tiny speed decrease. Can't say I like the thought of people ever so slowly getting closer to me without having to run, though.
ID: hbupa6uHonestly removing the thump is probably the biggest impact especially when you have a buddy that will commit to 90%, it cuts down on so many "was that you?" moments
-
I will try this one out! Seems like a pro tip to me hehe
ID: hbums7bi scroll down twice so my char stops to stomp on the ground... instead its more like a crunchy more suttle sound
-
Veritas talked about this 3 wipes ago and proved it.
ID: hbuxsm5Man, this dude would be such a bigger legend in the community if he wasn't salty half the time. Like if he had Deadly Slobs personality his channel would be huge!
ID: hbuyfgrI only watched him on YT but you are right, there was some salt backing up all those deconstructed fights, desyncs, debugging and server lag analysis.
ID: hbuy76zHe's salty often? I'm surprised but to be fair the only time I've watched him was during the twitch drops event and he really seemed like a chill guy.
ID: hbv629gHe’s a great youtuber though. His videos are some of the best on Tarkov.
ID: hbva56lAgreed, he's a pompous douche bag that bans people if they disagree. He did this to me when I politely argued a point with him. He then proceeded to tell his chat I was a stolen Valor little kid, that I had never served in the military and my subscription trail went back to mommy's credit card. I was actually astounded that he would have gone that far to save face just bc people in chat were backing my theory.... dudes a pos and man I get heated when I think about him telling 100+ people I had never served while I sit here on 100% disability and was medically retired from the marines. Fuck v.

Hearing someone before they hear you is worth more than gold.
-
Big tip, improved my gameplay as well as cheese leveling covert movement by always walking around 1 tick hunched down
-
My SR shot through the roof when I started moving at 90% speed. You will almost always hear other players before they hear you when you cross paths. No more fair fights, you can ambush almost everyone.
ID: hbv7u0habsolutely, it may not sound like a huge deal but getting that split second to react is a huge game changer. while they're still in the "i think i heard something" stage you're already aiming at their face ...
-
Oh shit, big brain move (sincerely). I'll give this a go, although I'm not sure how effective it will be outside of my own game client.
-
I’d assume you would have to keep changing it after every time you sprint tho but that isn’t too big of a deal
ID: hbuxe9ayeah it quickly becomes a habit to just scroll down twice after sprinting, I don't even think about it anymore
-
Shhhhhhh
-
I dont walk only sprint
ID: hbv5705Harder to hit a moving target, ratting is like a 5% of the time strategy unless it’s chad VS rat
-
Except on Factory. I walk at 1/4 speed to be safe.
-
I always mimic scav motions. They walk at full speed and always check mag at random times. I’ve baited a few PMC’s at the bunker on reserve this way.
-
Damn giving away my secrets. Who told you my secrets?
-
delete this
-
pls take down these rat tips
-
Such a dope tip. Thanks.
-
sound has never worked in this game correctly so i doubt this actually does anything on the other clients side...
ID: hbulj6v9 out of my 10 kills are me hearing someone well before they hear me or I see them.
ID: hbuuyynThat just means sound is really important for gameplay, and that you're good at using it. The amount of kills you get by using sound does not directly indicate the state of the games sound.
The truth is, positional sound is not so good in tark 🙁
ID: hbum4dxIt does, I play with my brother and we both do this, I can easily tell the difference between his footsteps and someone elses. Plus it's less about not being heard and more about being able to hear, the sound of your own footsteps drowns out a lot of noise so cutting your own noise down effectively makes other's noise easier to hear.
ID: hbuyonyBtw thank you for the big tip OP. Been playing a long time and never thought of this!
ID: hbv0o7xYou have no clue what you're talking about lmao
-
lol who the fuck downvoted this, this sub man, lmao
-
People that want to keep it secret. It’s a good tip. Too good.
-
Bunch of savages in this town
-
But this would require me to stop shift W'ing everywhere
-
I went into the menus to re-bind mousewheel to gradually increase and decrease speed, but couldn't find the binds. Only the change walk pose is there, which makes my character slightly crouch but doesn't change the sound bar from 2 to 1. Does anyone know where the slow down thing is?
-
next and previous
-
Seconded, great tip. I'm pretty much constantly using the scroll wheel adjusting speed. One of my favorite little features.
-
This seems huge. Can’t wait to try this later. Thanks OP!
-
I thought normal walking was still just loud as fuck?
Only way to actually be quite was crouch and all the way down?
-
It's still pretty loud but the point isn't to hide your sound from others, it's to let you hear them better. as others have mentioned, full speed audio has a very noticable thump to it that goes away at 90% meaning that you hear your own footsteps a lot less, letting you hear other people better. at 100% speed someone walking slower than you can sometimes be completely inaudible due to the sound of your own steps.
-
Additional pro tip: Stealth crouch walking but going one notch up on speed or height, you make a little bit more noise and go a little quicker but you don't drain stamina. Good for crouch strafing in low ground while you heal or eat.
-
No complainig? Pfff trying to be different I see
-
I'm sorry but I have no clue what this means. You can change the speed you walk at? Also what audio icon?
-
Bottom left, yea you can run at 10 different speeds and like 6 different crouch levels
-
What keys do you use for these things? I had no clue about this lmao
-
I guess I'm stupid. How do you slow down your run?
-
not very useful. if i start sprinting its on 100% after again. this is quite annyoing
-
Hold shift instead
-
OP is a naked Mosin runner trying to get people to walk a little slower to line up those easy headshots. Don't fall for it. Shift+W only.

Wait this isn’t a cheating complaint?!
