Here's a TL;DR - I think the swamp in shoreline is such a cool area that is very underutilized in Tarkov. There is potential in the environment to be very engaging and immersive because of its aesthetics (the church with cultist markings and the general creepy aura of a swamp) and ties to cultists.
Imagine the swamp becomes a point-of-interest - but only at night. Cultists lurk around the church, hiding in dark corners, creeping around the sunken village, peeping their heads out from the water. Perhaps sometimes you catch them in a ritual in the church, other times they catch you looking for rare items in the sunken village.
The church could become a marked room of sorts, but to even think about looting it you have to deal with the cult members first, whom are protecting the church.
This area has so much potential for interesting engagements but I feel it is very underused. I found a lion in one of the houses in the sunken village, but I think more needs to be done to this area. It's so cool. I want to fight cultists there. I want to run into other players there. I want to clinch my bum when looting it because I'm worried about getting stabbed, or getting sniped by players.
What do you guys think?

Issue with swamp is how it is positioned in the terrain. High hills on all sides making it way too easy to overlook and attack. Any form of scav/cultist/boss will be free pickings because of this.
ID: hcyv6juID: hcz00lsIt sounds good in theory but it will just become the sthurman issue. Kill from afar and free loot
ID: hcyvb7lThat’s part of the challenge , and obviously I think OP is thinking that they would add some buildings or some cover to the terrain to make it so your not such a sitting duck to say the edge of the map with all those bushes and the hills to the east going toward resort because yes you could get annihilated running through there !
ID: hcz1ebdThis might be asking for much but I’d like to see them rework that entire area in the sunken village. Keep the vantage points and the church the same but change the entire village.
ID: hcyxgm3But the risk there comes from looting the bodies and getting out alive, because other players could have a multitude of vantage points to pick you off.
Players could grind XP easily enough I suppose, but it makes it a newly valuable area to visit on the map
ID: hcz1hnzGotta risk it for the biscuit.
ID: hczxub7They’d definitely have to add more cover to make it work but the terrain isn’t that much different than sawmill on woods
ID: hd02urmWhich is also a hellhole, but its the middle of the map. A purposely made hellhole where everyone is lead to. Not some random left side of the map objective.
ID: hd09s0xJust like Lumber on Woods, sunken area with buildings surrounded by elevation.
Yes that's not perfect by any means, but having a 2nd 'hub' on the map, would be nice to split the rush to Resort imo.
They could also block major firing lines with buildings etc, so you have to get in there to fight them, although that would also require a covered approach to stop you getting picked off from someone on a hill.
ID: hd0g2noIf they made that swamp overgrown and added tons of trees, bushes, foliage, it would be ideal for fighting cultists / etc. you know going in there is super dangerous and you can’t stake it from afar due to soft cover either, forced to be confrontational and it’ll be creepier to boot

Every part except pier and resort are underutilized on the map. It is a terribly made map that needs fixing. Resort copium makes people think its a good map. But it really isnt. Its age shows. Hell, it still has bushes and trees all over the map that arent even in the ground.
ID: hcyvg2zI really like resort though , probably had the craziest fights in there once I learned how to flank and where the good loot is! Beats fighting in dorms , can’t stand those narrow hallways with glitchy sound
ID: hcyx0zeYeah. Resort itself is fine. It's location on the other hand, is not. Resort should be where power is. Direct center of the map. So no one basically spawns on the front door meanwhile everyone has to spawn at the coast. Also, nothing screams resort than looking out your front window and seeing a disgusting power station between you and the water.
ID: hcz1ksdUnfortunately I doubt we will see a rework anytime soon because of lighthouse and streets.
ID: hcz2qwyYeeeah. It would take a lot of work to fix this map. Its entire terrain needs to be fixed. The woodland fighting on the map is so bad. I just want them to put the map in the hands of a single developer like woods and let them fix it by themselves.
-
I think we need a scav camp above swap. Like in the top left or right corner. I don't even understand why that upper left corner of the map is there. It is completely empty.
ID: hcz8528it's not empty. like woods, the loot clusters and enemies are spread out and you're meant to wande
into them. -
Love the swamp. Only part of shorelines I ever managed to win an engagement on.
2 dudes ambushed me while I was checking for loot. Not knowing where to run, I jumped into the bøg. Crouch, aim down, free look near the tall grass and bam, 2 guys are sweeping the bog/house but can't make me out. Dropped em both and they never even zeroed me, hell they swept me several times and still didn't notice.
-
its underitilized because if you go there the top of your head will fly off because of some asshole 250 meters away.
-
I remember a long time ago my squad having a mid to long range firefight with another squad in the Shoreline's swamp.
I don't think I've done a lot of firefights such as this one and I think that's a shame.
We were very far from them but since here isn't much cover both inside the swamp and around it, both squads had to be very careful.
Other than that, it sure as hell is a moody place to be in, especially at night (as long as you don't get raped by Cultists obviously)
I think the issue is that if BSG makes the swamp interesting in terms of loot, how the hell are they supposed to balance it ? I mean, you can literally spawn inside the swamp at the start of the raid if you're on the west side and there's basically no equivalent at the opposite side of the map (there's basically nothing between the resort and road to customs)
ID: hczijwjThere are many ways to balance it. Changing spawns, increasing player count, shifting loot, etc.
ID: hczqd5pI know but BSG has probably more important things on their hands.
Too bad because the swamp has definitely some potential ...
-
Should definitely have a cultist boss in the church at night
-
I agree
-
How are there not quests yet for killing cultists at swamp?
-
Swamp with forest and trees that isn’t surrounded by sniper hills would be fun. I’m walking through village expecting to die at any moment by a sniper walking by on a hill because I’m exposed and moving at a crawl… fun when I’m pistol questing, but not fun if I was actually trying to do normal stuff there.
-
Imagine a rat just popping his head out of the swamp and just blasting you
-
what... cultists do spawn in the swamp.
ID: hd01aw2Above the swamp
-
The thing is shoreline it's just a place where most people go to do quests and get out. maybe get a bit of loot. Hope they do something with it.
-
if you want to talk about underused on shoreline .... what is the whole point of the Upper East side of the map?
There is nothing there. No scav spawns, pois, or any loot
ID: hd07gx3There are two juicy weapon boxes that 95% of the time I snaffle up because no-one goes there. Also a free hidden stash for the same reason.
-
They could expand the map in the Swamp quadrant and just north of svetily dead end (sorry for spelling) and then have some spawns pushed that way. They could move back rock Passage also and then add a makeshift compound or something to the north east of resort (like they did with med compound on woods) to add some loot over there. I just don't see them being able to make spawning right next to the Swamp at night work with cultists being there.
-
One of the best firefights I've ever had in this game was squad vs squad with us pinned inside the church.
-
Pop on the ghillie lookin hat, a face covering, and a green rig and armor, you got your self a great rat loadout
-
thats like all of shoreline. that map could be almost half the size and be twice as good. we all know that spawns on the east side are death sentences, and there is literally nothing worth going after on the east side at all except extracts.
-
I would approve a lot more if the goddamn pond scum was animated. I can barely tell where the grass ends and the swamp starts.
-
large open area with major movement restrictions
yea
ID: hd0j95yGotta risk it for the biscuit
-
If they fix the cultists ai it would work better because as it is now if u see atleast one and aggro them all of them will stand up and crouch instead of lying prone making them really easy to pick off in the swamp from the high hills around.
That being said I think and hope that their goal is to make every place on the map have loot as well as a unique challenge or setting.
-
It would be more approachable if it wasn't a bowl of death
-
Same with the woods swamp
-
I like the idea of it, but man is moving around in it a pain in the butt. I usually just go around a lot of the time.
-
I say get rid of the entire swamp and extend the town Into that area, it would take pressure off the dorms and would give the whole map a more rounded feel to it.
Also lore wise it would make sense for that town to be bigger than it is considering the medical spa, the docks, and how close it is to Reserve.
A town that small in that location just doesn't make sense.
-
They should put a graveyard and have a bunch of hidden jager stashes that change location every patch or something , I know it’s probably a lot of work added to an already hefty workload but I agree with you OP have my updoot!
ID: hcywp1lSwamp already had a graveyard and 5 Jaeger stashes as is...
ID: hcz7psxI love how so many people who clearly don't play shoreline have all the best suggestions for fixing it
ID: hczd198And zombies!

When I was new I didn't realize it was a swamp, got stuck walking through the water at a snail's pace. Some dude on the hill rushed out and lit me up, I sprayed my naked AK74U back at him and got the kill from the middle of the water.
Dude has a SVAL and level 4 armor. This was years ago but to this day I don't know how he didn't end me instantly, or how I managed to get such a lucky kill.
So yeah, I never go to swamp.

I think there are plenty of ways to prevent the cult members from becoming loot piñatas. Make them hide in buildings, make them hide in cover, make them hide in the water and pop out when a player gets close. Scatter them everywhere - even if you pick one off out in the open you are going to have to approach with caution because there are many more of them hiding.
