How (if it all) has that changed since?
-
The underlying reason was the massive weapons customization, but what truly tipped the scale is probably, as dumb as it is, ZChum's video on 12.6 lmao
Nowadays, been roughly an entire year and some extra since I first set foot on an offline Customs raid, nothing much has changed, I still run guns that I think look good, still absolutely bad at the game!
ID: hjo4medID: hjo51dnHis editing is superb, but legit the actual scene that got me hooked on was him lighting a guy with a stock 74U on Customs Pocket Watch truck lmao
ID: hjp5vrxYooo same. You're tagged SR-25? That's my new baby. I haven't been playing for awhile, SR-25 hits all the notes for me. I run non meta, style I like but still fairly practical SRs. Helps it also shoots a massive round.
ID: hjp9daoHehe! Im glad Im not the only one~!
I run SR-25 purely for that chamber-load animation, and also because of how meaty it sounds indoors, I used it to complete Factory PVP quests last wipe!
We are alike in that too!! I run stuff like HK416s that are dressed to look like an HK416-C, MK18 Mod II M4 clones, OP-SKS with normal SKS furniture, I'm all about aesthetics and style! But practicality is whole another story for me, recoil that reaches the heavens, iron-sighted marksmen rifles, and recently, I found absolute dumb fun running an AKM with an SV-98 scope attached, without any magazines and turning it into a single-shot bolt-action and plinking dudes with MAI AP, one round at a time!

Prapor and his seductive gaze
ID: hjnvj63I know that has only gotten hotter, fact
ID: hjp992gFor me it was this video from FrankieOnPCin1080p. I had the game purchased before the video had even finished.

I'm just tired of AAA fps games. The shooting mechanics all feel so bland with barely any recoil or weight to the weapons because they're obviously designed with consoles and controllers in mind. Tarkov feels like what a PC fps should feel like. The guns have kick and weight. It's just really fun to shoot the guns in Tarkov and it's super satisfying when you get a kill on a PMC.
So when I saw Shroud playing Tarkov a few years ago (he was in an intense firefight in the garage of Interchange), I just knew I would enjoy it.
ID: hjoh4hwThis combined with the variety of weapons, attachments, ammo, gear in general.
ID: hjoz0naI see something like rainbow six siege where the sights literally don’t move at all when you are ADS and it just looks so god damn terrible

there it is dude

I talked about raging and stoicism with a friend and he was like: "If you don't get mad at games, you should play Tarkov."
ID: hjobf37Every loss I have I get mad, but then I'm like it's only a game and I move on.
ID: hjoz4mlSame here, I'm like well shit, hopefully insurance covers it.

End of 2019, was getting bored of PUBG and saw a video on Tarkov and thought it sounded interesting. Played it constantly from the end of 2019 until about 3 months ago where I was getting bored of some of the tasks. Ironically, I’m back playing PUBG!
ID: hjowkd0Same. Around the time I was big into Chocotaco, and it was around the time pubg started to “die” and make very questionable game decisions. One day I saw on stream chacotaco was playing a strange game called Tarkov. He was doing a customs night raid - which I immediately thought was awesome. I saw a screenshot of the inventory and I was like “what the fuck is that”.
This was late 2019 iirc. Game was v different then I think. I had no real concept of “Chad” or Meta in the game, there might still have been some around, but those first couple of wipes I certainly didn’t encounter this mentality very much. There was also less of a sense of “getting gud”, aspiring to be the new Landmark or whatever. Something happened when the game exploded in popularity on Twitch, people streamed entire wipes 18 hours a day, and then those same people got to say what the game should be.
I still love the game but it’s managed to lose some of its charm.
ID: hjohdlfDoes it still have bots?
ID: hjohlrqYes. How many depends on time of day.

Saw AquaFPS play it and just fell in love with the game

About Jan 2020 I was on Twitch one day and had someone randomly come into my chat, I think I was playing Destiny 2 at the time. After a little bit they asked if I ever played EFT, and I had heard of it but knew very little of it so it wasn't on my radar.
I decided to have a look at it and I was really taken in by the more hardcore aspect of things. After a few minutes I was sold from there.
Over two thousand hours down since then and I'm still trash.

i really hated myself that day
-
Heard about jaeger and had to find out for myself if he was that much of a sadist.
ID: hjohwneHow'd that go? lol
ID: hjop6cvPretty accurate considering he even has a quest named Sadist lmao

That can of peas with the tiny spoon.

I love gritty realistic shooters
-
It was marketed as PvE with PvP elements.
ID: hjoho4wYea, it has definitely strayed a bit from that. That's a fair opinion.

It´s extremely refreshing if you always played fps but wanted something that doesn´t restrict you in dumb unrealistic ways like "nope, you are a trained soldier, but unfortunately you have to die cause you are unable to reload your firearm while sprinting" or the fact that you get a muzzle flash every single round fired no matter what. Or "your 5.56 hit that guys face, thats 90 armor damage". Also the fact that it´s not stupid run and gun (for most of the time) because you actually risk something if you run around chasing every gunfight. Also the weapon modding is fucking awesome.

First wipe for me. I built a PC to play this game. It’s a litany of things, really. I always wanted to have a gaming rig and I guess this game pushed me over the threshold. The guns, play style, idk… lots of things. I started with two others and have now found myself solo. The game is hard, I get it. Hard and lonely.
ID: hjobmfkExact same for me. First wipe, first PC. I love it. If you want to play duos PM me.

I first saw the tarkov trailer back in either 2015 or 2016 and was instantly super interested. Picked it up in 2017 when you didnt need EOD to play anymore.
The game has changed so much since. Some changes for the better, some the worse. I still love this game, though
-
My friend insisted I’d LOVE the game for many months. He would constantly stream and show me things to try to entice me(this was three wipes ago). I’m a very competitive person… or should say a glutton for punishment. I love hard games with a large learning curve that make you question if you are even playing a game or doing a job. I went from being a lowlife rat, hiding in corners, shoving anything and everything up my ass besides a stack of ammo and my extra handgun mags(I was so scared of losing roubles that even risking a 17k glock was a lot). Fast forward to this wipe… I am a solo chad with almost 1300 PMC kills, 50% survival, 6+ KD, enough gear in my stash to arm a militia for war. Between custom and factory map expansions, new raid boss, a good bit of new weapons, attachments, items, QOL changes, more added tasks from traders, new armor, rigs, backpacks, few new skills along with their mechanics, PMC spawns points, and even lots of AI work… I feel like they have put more effort in my pass three wipes than people would like to admit. Sure it’s not game changing content or more things to do in the game. But they ARE improving it over time.

I wasn't convinced, so my friend bought me standard edition. I upgraded to EOD a few weeks later on a Black Friday sale because I was hooked.
Looking back if I knew then what I know now I would have been the one telling him about Tarkov lol.
I'm fairly certain at nearly 4,000 hours that this is the most time I've ever put into a single game.

The difficulty and enjoyment of getting gud! Always room for improvment, if you can eventually beat what you lost to before its worth the travel and pain
-
Watched a few videos of a gun expert reacting to Tarkov and decided to give it a shot. Addicted ever since
-
My friend told me to get it, so I got it.
900 hours later, I'm sick of it
-
I initially thought it was a procedurally generated survival game. Bought it blind, and its certainly not procedural, but i love it becayse its like DayZ, but in small compact doses.
-
I bought it for the free market and the realistic guns. The flea is anything but free now with fir but the guns are still neat.
-
I loved Tom Clancy’s The Division 2. But hated how you’d have to dump 100rounds for any bullet sponge to drop. And on the other hand, the CODs were just empty wins or losses without the sense of progress of an rpg. Tarkov gave me the dystopia of The Division and the emotions that the CODs could no longer give.

gun goes pew pew like real gun

This one is easy. I paid that money purely because I believe in what BSG is building. I wholeheartedly believe they have created a super unique game that has shaken the very core of how we play games. I would click that button again and again.
