Release date is 18 March 2022. A new trial demo is available now on PS5 & XBox Series X/S.

An interesting thing is the difference in what MC calls the thing he's holding in his hand. In in most JP versions "THE 4 Crystals" are just the English word "Crystal". (The narrator says it at 1:15.) But in the JP trailer he says a word similar to like "stone/mineral/jewel" something like that. I wonder if that's more evidence that this is a prequel, maybe they don't know that it's **A** Crystal yet...?
I wouldn't normal hone in on one word but being that it's FF and that word is Crystal...

Woah this trailer looks 1000 times more epic and interesting than the first one. Excited to try the demo later 🙂 I was not very interested with the first one but now I’m looking forward to it.

I'm pretty hype after seeing this, but the costume designs are pretty bland. Did they forget they can use colors that aren't grey-black?

Art direction, graphics and gameplay look tremendous.
Dialogue is absolutely atrocious. A shame that they just can't seem to get this aspect down, maybe it's the complex stories having difficulty with localization but XII was the last voice acted FF game that wasn't painful to get through, although to their credit VII remake is decent in most parts.

Around the 5min mark of this video, you can hear the melody of Sunleth Waterscape from FF13. The environment looks oddly similar to Sunleth Waterscape too.

I really don't know what to make of this game. I'll probably play it because sure, I enjoy a good hack and slash action RPG, and one filled with FF lore would make it feel nice and familiar. It looked more interesting than the first trailer, though it still feels a bit like it's trying too hard to be dark and edgy. But there was some more variety in the style now, the outdoor environments looked nice and the enemies looked well designed. I'm not sure that the FF1 story was ever complex enough to need a prequel or expanded universe, but at the same time that means it's a blank enough canvas to tell another story too.
So I'll see how it turns out. I've been burned too many times at this point to pre order it or rush out to buy it on day 1 just because it's got Final Fantasy in the name, and how fun it is will entirely depend on how good the combat feels, and how much the story matters - That is to say, it doesn't really matter if the story is dumb if it's just a occasional cutscenes in an action-focused game, but if it's a story-focused game and this is the level of dialog we're getting, perhaps not.
Of course I might be able to get a feel for the combat myself if they were releasing the demo on Steam or PS4, but as they're not, I'll just have to wait to see the consensus after release.
