Outriders – 1 Week To Launch – Dev Update

1 : Anonymous2021/03/25 13:44 ID: mcyjyg

Hello everyone!

We're just one week out from launching Outriders fully on April 1st, 2021. 7 Days to go!

We've got a lot of things to cover today, so lets jump right into it.

Note that your progress and characters should be waiting for you in the main game. You do not need to manually transfer them.

I've broken this thread into many subthreads in order to create an index that will help you focus on the things that interest you the most.

What has changed between the latest Demo build and the launch day build of Outriders?

Below is only a condensed overview. In truth, the launch day build contains a multitude of additional general improvements, balancing, bug fixes and crash resolutions.

Highlights include: Lots of demo content bug fixes, including for example, mods on some Legendary weapons not triggering properly. Balancing changes for various items, mods, enemy stats and loot drops. Balancing is an ongoing process and we have learnt much from internal playtests, the Insiders preview and the demo over the previous months. However, we’re sure that we will continue to learn more from the launch of the main game and the feedback provided by you, our community. So, keep it coming! Crossplay will no longer be in Beta and will be on by default. PC players will be able to add cross-platform players that they have previously played with to their friends lists. Consoles will receive this functionality through a future patch. Please note that if you turn Crossplay off manually, you will not be able to automatically matchmake with people who still have it turned on, even if you are all on the same platform. Direct inviting should still work though. DirectX 12 will be the default on PC. Added a "Quick Mark" functionality to your inventory. This will allow you to mass-mark all items based on their rarity in one or two button presses, rather than needing to mark items individually (which is still possible if preferred). Improvements to the Cover System Improvement to Travel Voting system used when in a group Added information about internal cooldown mechanics for Mods to their descriptions

But wait! There's more!

Find out about our patch intentions here.

As you progress through the main game you will also have full access to the crafting system, character levels, all World Tiers and more. No more Grinding for Legendaries at WT5! We recommend playing through the story and enjoying the experience first. Legendaries will drop naturally over time as you push your WT higher and get into Expeditions content.

Please change the process of throwing abilities! It's way more complicated than it needs to be. I really like the technomancer, but placing turrets and grenades is way too slow. Hold press to start targeting, let go to throw. Simple and fast. PLEASE.

ID: gs74sd6

This would make the class much less cumbersome to play for sure

ID: gs7e04t

I 100% agree....its why i dont like to play techno

ID: gs6e0nq

Will we PLEASE get an option to lock gear so that it doesn't get deleted or sold accidentally? Thank you.....

ID: gs6hknf

Locking gear has already been confirmed

ID: gs6dls6

Will the game ever have in-game chat so cross play players can talk without jumping through hoops?

Hells Ranger's Info

The Hell's Ranger Content will become available via your stash for anyone who owns it. This means that even if you progress through the story without it, you will not miss out on acquiring it in game.

Please note that this gear is level-locked to level 10, so you will need to meet its requirements (achieving level 10 or playing on certain level boosting World Tiers) before you are able to use it.

ID: gs6a6mi

what happens if I accidentally sell or dismantle that gear? will there be a way to get it back later?

can I get copies of it on multiple chars?

ID: gs6bybd

what happens if I accidentally sell or dismantle that gear? will there be a way to get it back later?

We have certain mechanics in place to ensure that this wont be an issue.

ID: gs6nlyh

I pre-ordered through Green Man Gaming, rather than through Steam directly. Does this affect my access to the Hell's Ranger content?

Patches & Post-Launch support

We currently have a few patches undergoing testing and submission. It is our full intention to release patches across all platforms simultaneously, though this may not always be possible.

Below are our pre-planned patches. However, as with the demo, we will be carefully monitoring the launch and it is our full intention to on short notice hotfix any issues that we are able to reproduce and resolve on our side and that are deemed severe enough.

Issues of lesser severity that we are able to reproduce and resolve will likely be bundled into the bigger “Post-Launch Follow up Patch” for the sake of efficiency.

Day 1 Patch:

This is a patch we're hoping to have ready and integrated into pre-loading even before launch. If everything goes to plan you won’t even have to download this on Day 1, but there is a possibility that this patch will release on April 1st (day one) and will therefore require an additional download.

Many bug fixes and improvements, with a particular focus on the latter sections of the game. Performance improvements for pacing/stuttering that was observed during the demo Camera Smoothing improvements for cutscenes and dialogues. This should reduce the camera shake that some players are struggling with Cutscenes/dialogues frame rate improvements PC cutscenes will have the option to choose from 30, 60, 90 and 120fps Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 cutscenes will be locked to 60fps Xbox One and PlayStation 4 cutscenes will remain locked to 30fps

Post-Launch Follow up Patch & Upcoming Optimizations

We have an additional pre-planned patch that is intended to address any recently-reported issues or bugs coming out of the demo that the run to launch didn't allow us enough time to implement beforehand. The resolutions for any non-urgent bugs that are discovered during launch may well be rolled into this patch.

At this point in time we do not yet have a set release time for this patch as its release will depend on the amount of content we want to roll into it. We are expecting this to roll out at least a few weeks after launch. Newly discovered severe issues will be hot-fixed earlier and separately from this patch of course.

Below are our intentions for this patch.

Controller adjustment options such as deadzone adjustment, acceleration settings and legacy layouts. Loading Time Improvements for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles Further Performance Improvements for Co-op games Crossplay friends list and invite system across all platforms. This will require you to be using a Square Enix Members account. Bug fixes including, for example: Lore collectibles bugging out on second characters This list will continue to be built out as we progress through launch
ID: gs67ih7

Woah! Awesome to see that cutscene improvements will be available day 1 (and some good changes too)

That follow up patch sounds perfect.

Our Policy on Cheating and Hacking:

Since demo launch this has been a hotly debated topic, so we wanted to provide some perspective on it as well as outline our policy regarding cheating and hacking going forward.

For context:

At the time when we reached around 2 million players, we identified 200 players who had clearly cheated. In percentage terms, that’s 0.01%. We can see you all. Yes, even the person who gave themself 600 Legendary Weapons. Smh. We trust that this percentage will not grow by much as we move through and beyond launch, but below are the steps we will take to ensure that legit players will not have their fun spoiled as a result of cheaters.

Repercussions of being identified as having used cheats: Repercussions are account wide, not character specific You will not be able to matchmake with legit players Matchmaking will likely take significantly longer You will still be able to play solo In future, your HUD will have a discreet but visible watermark placed on it so that gameplay footage created on this account can be readily identified as coming from a flagged account.

All accounts will be checked for evidence of cheat use on launch day - April 1st, and then at regular intervals thereafter.

Any account logs found to have evidence of cheating on them on or after launch day will be permanently branded.

If you cheated during the demo "just to try it out" but wish to go into the main game unbranded, you must DELETE ALL CHARACTERS AND ITEMS ON YOUR ENTIRE ACCOUNT in order to wipe the slate clean. You should not carry over any progress between demo and main game if you previously cheated but do not plan to do so in the main game.

What is considered cheating? Intentionally running the game on PC without Easy Anti Cheat (EAC) Modifying game files to enhance a character: levels, skills, inventory, etc. Externally modifying game time to reduce time dependent features such as vendors and challenges Using a trainer program or similar to gain advantages within the game Using gameplay altering programs such as aimbots or wallhacks

Individual players who are found to be being regularly kicked by multiplayer hosts shortly after joining may also be manually reviewed as an additional anti-cheat/anti-grief safeguard.

Using performance tweaking software (such as RivaTuner for example) to improve a personal game experience is not considered cheating.

Farming is not considered cheating. Even though the amount of battering that that captain underwent could be considered unethical. RIPThatCaptain.

We reserve the right to update and change this policy in future.

Intentionally running the game on PC without Easy Anti Cheat (EAC)

Quick question regarding this point. I noticed once or twice when my game crashed it gave me an error message that seemed to indicate the game re-launched itself without EAC active. Are you guys able to differentiate between this occurring and people going out of their way to launch the game without EAC?

ID: gs6cvui

The full game will have a different EAC integration to the demo (which has two .exes), so this issue shouldn't happen again in future.

ID: gs6e59l

Will that flag be visible enough to someone seeing footage on Youtube? I just wouldn't put it past some content creators, willing to get that awe and shock factor to gain views.

I noticed you stated playing without EAC, I've had instances in other games (Mainly through Epic Launcher) where EAC didn't engage properly. I hope there is some kind of appeal process if this happens.

I'm also glad that your stance on "efficient" farming is not to treat it like hack. (RIP Gladd in Anthem). I hope as other farming methods are identified, that things are curtailed in a considerate manner. I doubt this will be a big deal as Expeditions clears are clearly intended to be the best farming method.

ID: gs6h5yc

Will that flag be visible enough to someone seeing footage on Youtube? I just wouldn't put it past some content creators, willing to get that awe and shock factor to gain views.

This is part of the intention - to ensure that all content creation either by stream or just little clips on reddit/social is a fair and level playing field.

ID: gs67tuk

" Externally modifying game time to reduce time dependent features such as vendors and challenges "

Does this also count if you never purchased the items from the vendors? I was doing it to try and understand the % but I did a 24 hour check and items never appeared in the shop. If I have to delete everything honestly no big deal, just trying to prevent myself from having to buy the game twice or something.

ID: gs68sxu

If you previously did it in the demo, you'll be okay because we hadn't yet made it clear not to.

If anyone does it going forward, they'll be flagged.

ID: gs6fw4p

could you please confirm that it is allowed to use shaders improvements like ?

ID: gs6i5sw

Official ReShade builds are signed to be allowed by EAC. Any builds you do yourself will be blocked (for obvious reasons).

All versions since 4.3.0 are whitelisted. There are some games that explicitly forbid and therefore block ReShade regardless though.

ID: gs6ew73

Will cheaters be told their account has been sanctioned or will it be obvious?

ID: gs6hcfc

We have plans to have a MOTD pop-up show up when anyone has been flagged, so they should know immediately when it's happened.

ID: gs68vj2

This is one of the most creative and useful solutions I've seen for something like this. I think it's awesome to still be able to whack them on the nose with the newspaper so to speak, but still let them have their fun (cause some people find that fun for whatever reason).

And the transparency about the parameters of what is and isn't considered cheating before launch is another awesome thing, you guys rock.

Also also, love your guys' sense of humor. RIP Cap'n

ID: gs6ijj6

Even though the amount of battering that that captain underwent could be considered unethical

Hysterical!

ID: gs6jjo9

" Individual players who are found to be being regularly kicked by multiplayer hosts shortly after joining may also be manually reviewed as an additional anti-cheat/anti-grief safeguard. "

As someone who joined quite a few matches and got kicked immediately upon joining because the person likely didn't realize matchmaking was open by default this one worries me.
Seems likely this list is going to be quite the list to check manually.

Item Restoration For Players Who lost their Legendaries:

As mentioned in our previous dev update, we intend to restore Legendaries to players who lost them as a result of a specific bug.

This restoration is taking place right now, as part of today's maintenance (Thursday, March 25).

Restoration:

Is a one-off event for the global player population Restoration will take place on March 25th and will restore any Legendaries lost before March 22nd Only Legendary Weapons that were lost can be restored

Please check whether your lost Legendary Weapons have been restored once the Maintenance has ended.

Since we implemented our fix for this bug, we have observed a smaller number of continued reports regarding lost Legendaries. We believe most of these to be down to the regularity of the game autosaving rather than a specific bug. Put simply, if you found a Legendary but the game was terminated before an autosave could occur, that Legendary (or any other item) would never have made it into your server inventory/our logs.

Instances of this occurring include:

Players using specific farming methods that are so fast that they prevent the game from triggering an autosave cycle before the farming run is reset. In extreme cases, some players may go for long periods of time without autosaving. Players crashing out of the game just before/after they pick up a Legendary.

We are continuing to investigate such use cases and we are looking into how we can mitigate against them in future.

While we hope that we managed to restore as many Legendaries as possible, we expect there to be niche cases of players not having a Legendary restored because it never arrived on our logs (as per the use cases above).

If this is the case, please reply to this sub-thread here so that we can track and be aware of how many cases were missed. We will try to provide news around further steps when we know more.

ID: gs67mke

I really really hope this level of integrity and honesty continues once the full game is released. I'm not expecting massive news updates every few days or weeks cuz obv you've got a whole game to keep tabs on instead of a smaller demo, but i'd like to know there is at least 1 dev team out there that cares doesn't ghost the fanbase after launch.

ID: gs6buam

What happens if your inventory is full of Lego's and you get restored some lost lego's? goes to stash?

Preloading & Launch Timings

Pre-loading:

Xbox – Pre-loading will be live today! PlayStation Platforms – Pre-loading will begin 48 hours in advance of release time Steam – We are still determining our pre-load options here and hope to share news about the possibility of it next week. Epic Game Store: Preloading is not currently possible.

Launch Times:

Rolling Midnight Unlock for Consoles: Consoles (Xbox and PlayStation) will unlock at midnight on April 1st for your specific country. For the USA, this means midnight EDT April 1st, which is 21:00 PDT on March 31st Unified single global time for PC & Stadia: The platforms will release on April 1st at 17:00 BST / 09:00am PDT These platforms can only release at a single time globally (this is due to how their stores are set up) Here is a countdown that will help you understand how long to go in your specific region. This time is the standard PC release time for Square Enix and has been carefully chosen to ensure that the maximum amount of support and partner staff are on hand to deal with any launch day issues.
ID: gs67l7r

RIP Steam users having to wait 12 hours after console launch.

ID: gs6drc3

Someone will always be playing before someone, unless we force a global launch time, which would increase stress on servers and would likely mean that you still have to wait till 5pm GMT on launch day.

ID: gs68l3d

Some countries on console will have a 24hr jump over pc. Damn

ID: gs6tm5j

may I ask about the Gamepass release time?

9 : Anonymous2021/03/25 14:01 ID: gs669w5

Hype overload

10 : Anonymous2021/03/25 14:18 ID: gs68jdi

Man...you guys are amazing. If more devs were like you this industry wouldn’t be the way it is

11 : Anonymous2021/03/25 14:10 ID: gs67e9j

Great write-up, Arcan. It’s finally upon us!

ID: gs69efl

Thank you! If I'm not directly responding to people who tag me, it's most likely because I'm once again knee deep in compiling another of these updates 🙂

12 : Anonymous2021/03/25 14:02 ID: gs66d4d

Y’all seriously da best. Next week can’t get here fast enough.

13 : Anonymous2021/03/25 15:25 ID: gs6i1g9

Imagine waiting months for a game and then crying about 12 hours lmao. This is why people call us entitled in America.

ID: gs6qev0

Yeah, ultimately those 12 hours are going to be a blip on the radar over my entire time with the game. Hell, more like one or two hours, since I wasn't going to stay up all night to play anyway. Probably better for my sleep schedule that it's not coming out at midnight on PC. Now I'm debating whether I want to take launch day off work, especially since I won't be off until Sunday otherwise. But maybe it'd be better to wait in case there are launch day issues.

14 : Anonymous2021/03/25 14:10 ID: gs67hqh

So ready for next week. I love the transparency and effort you guys are putting into this all throughout the demo and up to release. It's such a breath of fresh air in today's gaming climate.

The cherry on top is that the game itself is amazing to play. I've almost never been able to stick with a grind in games but I put well over 30 hours into the demo which speaks volumes for a player like me. This game makes you feel like a god, and the skills are immensely satisfying.

Can't wait to get rolling next week. I'll be up for the release time on the dot, and have a 4 day weekend, my body is ready.

15 : Anonymous2021/03/25 14:16 ID: gs687td

I actually have no questions left for launch. This answered everything that could be expected and more. PCF and /

are showing us what should be the industry standard for communication. I hope it keeps up post launch!

16 : Anonymous2021/03/25 14:52 ID: gs6da3m

Should give "That Captain" a unique name to remember and acknowledge their sacrifice.

17 : Anonymous2021/03/25 14:06 ID: gs66v45

Also thank you SO MUCH for the Quick Mark. QOL improvements FTW.

18 : Anonymous2021/03/25 14:23 ID: gs698cl

So hyped!

19 : Anonymous2021/03/25 14:28 ID: gs69vkm

The only thing besides transmog I wish for are "punchier" gunshot sounds.
