- Linux 5.15 Is A Very Exciting Kernel For AMD
-
Great to see AMD finally catching up to Intel on Linux !
But I still wonder how it's the temperature sensors reading...
Did AMD do any improvement themselves or it's all reverse-engineered by the community ?
I really like to have official proper support.

What do you mean ?
ID: hco4s6zMotherboard vendors and their stupid, proprietary chips.
Got no problems here with sensors, on both GPU and CPU.
ID: hcoeyjkSorry, but I don't get it, what does reading CPU sensors have to do with the motherboard chips ?
I'm talking about reading the temperature sensors on the latest Ryzen CPUs.
I heard that there is something there, but it's not really accurate or it doesn't contain all the sensors because somebody just reverse engineered it to be more similar to Windows, instead of being done by AMD developers who clearly know more about their CPUs.
ID: hcobve0That hasn't been a thing for the last 10 years as far as I'm concerned

Most of these changes were submitted by AMD.

Exciting stuff, but I would finally like to enjoy the HDMI2.1 on Linux. Darn that source code.
ID: hcoghh1I am using HDMI 2.1 on Linux, it was never a problem. Do you mean VRR?
ID: hcp9jozVRR + 4k@120 using 444rgb chroma subsampling is not possible currently, making OLED experience pretty crappy for the time being on CX/C1.

with this fix select HP ENVY laptops and other laptops should hopefully see more reliable suspend/resume behavior.
I have one of said HP ENVY laptops, running Ubuntu, and haven't been able to suspend/resume since I bought it two years ago. Here's hoping...
ID: hcppk3mA user of the laptop model concerned by that fix here. Tbh for my model the s2idle changes introduced in 5.14 were regressions; on 5.13 suspend/resume worked perfectly. I've been helping an AMD developer to test those changes pending for 5.15.0 and everything except resume from lid open works. The developer said that the commit which broke lid open was for fixing s2idle issues on many other laptop models so it's very unlikely they'll revert it. Thus I'd suggest you use 5.13 for now if you want perfect suspend/resume functionality. I'm also hoping this very last s2idle issue can be fixed before 5.15.0 but I wouldn't set expectation on 5.15 too high like that in my mind.

Well, hopefully, 5.15 has proper bluetooth support because 5.14 has bluetooth issues, well 5.13 does not. I am on all AMD hardware and use the XBox One controllers for Windows over bluetooth and 5.13 seems to be the only one that works without issue.
ID: hcpb9elI'm on 5.14 and using XBox One Controllers over bluetooth. What are your issues?
ID: hcpbffyBluetooth is entirely disabled when I tried the 5.14 Xanmod Kernel but, 5.13 did not have an issue.
ID: hcpxhm0How much of Bluetooth functionality is implemented in the kernel itself vs userspace?
ID: hcpyt18Honestly, I have no idea.
