- Kena: Bridge Of Spirits PS5 vs PS4 Performance Review -IGN NX GAMER
-
I'm on a PS5 in performance mode and the cutscenes feel like they're playing in 15 FPS. Anyone else noticed this? Is it just 30 FPS for cutscenes? It feels jarring
ID: hduhf24 -
wait...did IGN hire NX gamer ? cuz if they did, that's a smart af move from their part
ID: hdu3eo2Oh god, that would also mean I now have to subscribe to IGN to see his latest videos show up. Please no.
ID: hduyb34I think he just partnered with them to do shared videos here and there. He mentions all the time that he has a full-time job outside of his YouTube channel and he's always hoping that he can grow the channel large enough to go full time on it instead.
-
Is this game really only $40 for either PS4 or PS5? That's a pretty good deal I must say.
ID: hdtx9zwYes. 40 gets you both versions.
ID: hdu43qsWell would you look at that, Sony?
Giving both gen versions at the same price without next gen upgrade cost fuckery is apparently doable. Funny that.
-
I want to see a PS5 vs PC comparison.
ID: hdss24dI think digital foundary is already on it.
ID: hdtbflmID: hdu8lnzso ps5 4k 30fps version uses the same low quality shadows as the performance mode but also has frametime stutters lmao
-
I don't usually enjoy such comparisons but seeing NX gamer do it does put a smile on my face
ID: hdttr8vHell yeah, such a knowledgeable and talented guy. Glad to see him getting some success.
-
Glad I have a PS5. I'm sick and tired of 30 fps
-
Are cutscenes 60fps in performance mode?
-
“It does take you back to something Nintendo would’ve made back in their heyday…” As if Nintendo aren’t still very much in their heyday.
-
They're not.
-
They are a shell of the company they once were. I love Nintendo but greed destroyed the heart that made the company so amazing.
-
Ah right. Sorry, I forgot this is a “PS5” subreddit and am therefore not allowed to say anything nice about Nintendo, what was I thinking.
-
Literal universal praise for Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Smash, etc...
Somehow they're off their game.
-
how old are these games now? 4 or 5 years? the past 2-3 years they released some very questionable games in regards to ammount of content (thr newest mario party was way to short compared to previous titels in the series iirc for example), quality (pokemon sword and shield for example) and even prices (looking at you Super mario 3d all stars and tloz skyward sword)
-
So 2 launch games and one other game. Now how many things have Nintendo put out that were absolutely garbage? How many games are objectively worst on the switch? How many basic features does switch lack that other platforms have had for over a decade? Where does Nintendo rank in terms of performance and value? Some really talented developers doesn't change the fact that Nintendo is behind the times in almost every way.
-
I don't know why but I've really gone off Digital Foundry but NXG is great....
-
Personally, I think Richard and John are still enjoyable but Alex B is really off putting with his analysis.
Coming from a heavy PC background he really nitpicks about things that console players just don't really care about. Therefore sucking the life out of any hype you may have had for the game.
-
I don't see the problem with an extra perspective even if I often disagree with his view. But I don't really get "hyped" for anything to begin with so eh. I also feel a lot of people see criticisms when it's just observations more than anything.
-
Yeah I think that's it, I'm also not a big fan of Linneman but Richard and Thomas are good....
-
You hit the nail on the head with that one. Alex does a good job, but his bias shows through a bit too much for my liking. I like John and Richard a lot, though.
-
I think his analysis is valid. If you want a comparison to pc, it should be honest and if he has to be nitpicky, it means there isn't anything big to complain about.
-
Kinda stupid comparing PS5 version to one that's obviously inferior. PS5 vs PC version will be much more interesting. Planning on getting it for PC but it's only on EGS right now which I'm not a fan of.
-
It's not stupid, there are many people who can't get a PS5 and might be wondering whether it's worth waiting until they find one to play this game.
-
It is not only comparison it also give PS4 owner an idea whether game have good quality and solid frame rate
-
Exactly this. As an OG PS4 owner it was the reason I watched.
-
Hate to break it to you but there are tons on people out there that don’t have PS5s yet.
-
Bought it yesterday and played for a few hours. Enjoyable game even if it’s all stuff we have experienced before. Graphics are excellent on PS5.
-
To a degree you are right, but do consider how much of the games we get these days that are sequels, which reuse material and retread familiar ground to a far greater degree than Kena.
-
Can't wait to pick this up. Saw where a physical release is happening in November, I'll grab it then.
-
very impressed with the music, it's beautiful
-
Haven't really been keeping up with this game closely, but I checked it out on the PS app yesterday to see how much it was after seeing the solid reviews and only saw the PS4 version on the store. Is there an actual PS5 version, or do I need to buy the PS4 version?
-
There's a PS5 version
-
Ok, thanks. I guess I just missed it in the store somehow.
-
Oh wow, if performance mode is 1800p than it's a no brainer to use that mode.
-
Yeah, everything set at low lol
-
I have a tendency to roll my eyes when I see a tech analysis from IGN appear in my recommended videos then remember NX Gamer is there, the guy I had already been watching for these analyses. He is about the only reason I'd bother watch anything from IGN.
-
Sensitivity is rough on PS5. My right stick keeps drifting at random times. Don't know if it's a game issue or a controller issue, but it still feels stiff to move
-
Pc sometimes get console cutscenes but kenas cutscenes even console players say it's bad they should've done them inengine.
-
Just started playing this again this eve and it's stuttering even on performance mode - anyone else have this problem?
-
I really wish I understood what everyone is loving about this game. It’s super pretty but the actual gameplay is not good at all
-
What aren't you liking about it? It reminds me of a PS2 game in the best way. Platforming like Jak and Daxter, combat feels decent to me.
-
Maybe it’s coming off some truly great platformers recently but it all just feels bland and simple to me. The combat is way too easy. I’m not hating on the game, I plan on beating it but ya it just doesn’t really do much for me. Im happy others like it
-
Still won’t pay full price for this. Will wait for price drop
-
That's great?
-
It's already cheaper than other games, almost half the price
-
Its not even full price, its $40
-
Can anyone explain to me why the PS5, a next gen console, so often only capable of 60fps in performance mode? Surely 60fps should be the baseline and 30fps should be a thing of the past.
-
Realistically a lot of games still coming out are going to be cross-gen titles. They were made first on PS4, and the upgrades done allow better performance on PS5. For pure PS5 exclusives, games should be 60fps baseline.
-
Cool so they're essentially not optimised for the PS5? I'm hoping that means 60fps is the new baseline and we see less of this performance/quality mode stuff.
-
It probably could run it at much higher than 60 fps if they dropped the resolution significantly. They would lose a ton of detail, though, which I would guess is not something with Ember Lab's background as an animation studio wants to do. It's a pretty detailed and beautiful game to be close to locked at 60 fps. If your expectation is that it should have that level of detail at double or more the frames, your expectations aren't very realistic. I build my own PCs, and I'm quite impressed with how Kena looks and runs on PS5. From what I've seen the PC version is also well optimized. The only version that tends to chug a bit is the PS4 version, and that is due to substantial hardware limitations.

The cutscenes are 24 FPS and they are just pre-rendered videos.
