A little less than a month ago, we've put in place a bunch of new rules in order to increase the general quality of the posts on /

" class="reddit-press-subreddit-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener">
" class="reddit-press-subreddit-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener">" class="reddit-press-subreddit-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener">
. A lot of them were screenshots or generic pictures of collections, and it started to go out of hand.

As such these new rules were put in effect on February 12. To share our side of the experience, here's what we noticed on our end:

We removed a LOT of posts. Many more than we did before the new rules. May they be questions, screenshots outside of weekends, self promotion, etc. A bunch of people apparently weren't informed of the new rules in place. Despite it being pinned at the top of the subreddit, quite a few people said they couldn't find the Question Megathread. Some people still do reports on posts that are allowed in week-ends. The Question Megathread hovers around 150 answers per day, which is pretty good in our opinion. But we might consider switching the thread every 48 or 72 hours as keeping it on a daily basis might be a little too much. Some largely upvoted Fluff posts in weekends could stay on the first page of /" class="reddit-press-subreddit-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener">" class="reddit-press-subreddit-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener">" class="reddit-press-subreddit-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> until Tuesday as many other posts couldn't reach 100+ score.

We've also put a measure that was quite radical but incredibly effective: "trap flairs". Every post that was correctly flaired as "Tech Support", "General Question" or "Recommendation" was immediately removed by the bot in order to redirect the redditor to the megathread. This was not a bug or an oversight - it was 100% intended. And still we saw a lot of modmail about that. Some people circumvented this problem was using a General Discussion or a Game Discussion flair, but that didn't prevent the post to be manually removed later.

After nearly a month of testing (which is way more than the week initially planned!), we wanted to know your opinion about these new rules, and mostly about:

The General Question and Tech Support Megathread Allowing Fluff posts on Weekends The general appearance and activity of the sub during weekdays Rules that should be removed, loosened, kept, tightened or introduced

Feel free to share your honest feelings about the current state of the subreddit. After all, you make it live, we just try to keep it as tidy as we can.

General quality of the sub has improved massively with the introduction of the daily megathread for PS4 problems

I certainly try and help out in the Q&A thread as much as possible to answer the more straightforward questions.

Its much better having them confined to a single thread.

yeah I see you around a lot lol

I really like the changes. Previously, there were hundreds of threads a day with vague titles (like "I have a problem!"), generic posts (like "Recommend me a couch co-op game!"), suggestions without means (like "Hey, wouldn't it be great if Sony resurrected Ape Escape?"), low quality junk (like "Fill out my Ape Escape survey!"), and spam (like "Petition to have Sony re-continue Ape Escape"). I felt like I was harassing the mods with how many reports I filed while I was looking for the few threads where people really needed help, and were able to explain themselves clearly.

Now, there are still people writing vague messages in the support thread (like "I don't know how to play Ape Escape on my PS4"), but the signal to noise ratio is much stronger.

I for sure appreciate not seeing 70 posts an hour from idiots that can’t use google or figure out simple technical issues.

The sub can do a little better on listing new releases of “games, bundles, and add-ons” on a weekly basis.

Really annoying to be honest, I could ask general questions in the past and got great responses. Now I have to repost in a mega thread which barely anyone reads and displays the latest thread at the bottom of the app... waste of time

Edit: typo

The rules seem very inconsisteny. Highly-upvoted links to CD-Keys remain despite falling under Rule 2 (no grey-market discussion). Or PS5 discussion because "it plays PS4 games".

The problem is actually, there isn't enough mods to cover the sub 24/7. The bot does a good job most of the time but sometimes, despite the recruitment in late 2020, there are just moments where "mods are asleep".

PS5 discussion is always tricky - we usually try to keep posts that are "on the fence". Posts strictly about PS5 games (like Demon's Souls or Destruction AllStars) are removed, though.

What about AI enhanced 8k trailers?, I've seen some of them and they never got removed and they are not from the official source

ID: gq55zbq

We tried to remove them as soon as possible, but as I said on another post, sometimes they were posted during "mods are asleep" periods.

Your auto mod keeps removing my post about controllers say ‘it’s a question’ except I’m trying to tell people HOW TO FIX THEIR CONTROLLER IF THE JOYSTICKS ARE ACTING UP STRAIGHT FROM THE BOX. And posting here will only help nobody. But that’s fine with me. Your ’trap flair removal’ is a great way of saying ‘no one cares about your problems’. Good luck everyone.

Hey mods. Can you help me give away a PS4?

12 : Anonymous2021/03/12 15:47 ID: gqp7xhl

Anything going to be done about the litany of strangely condescending xbox-centric posts and comments lately?

13 : Anonymous2021/03/10 16:30 ID: gqgmd1f

I don’t like the megathread for tech issues, I have a genuine problem that can only really be described with a video, so making a video post would be easier not posting in the megathread and then having to wait 10 minutes to link the video (also why do I have to wait 10 minutes after everything I post?). Some people may also have similar problems and then they have to go and find somewhere to post the video or picture so they can link it with their reply which is an unneeded hassle. I think I’ll just use the main PlayStation subreddit for now, it’s less hassle and less annoying.

I found a way to remedy the joystick issues everyone keeps having with out of the box controllers and they keep removing my post for ‘asking questions’. These mod-nazis have destroyed this sub.

How do I turn off strict mode on internet browser
