- Sherlock Holmes Chapter One - Detective Gameplay Trailer

In the cutscenes why is it so difficult to make mouths match what they are saying? Not hating, genuinely curious.
ID: hh932l3ID: hh9ymtgThere are essentially three ways of handling this: hand done, motion capture, and procedural. The basic procedural version is based on the size of the wave form to the size of the mouth. Gives you a solid muppet effect. The more complex versions, in things like Adobe character animator, can tell certain sounds and change shapes to match (like an O making the lips purse slightly).
Hand done is tedious and time consuming, and requires a lot of effort to adjust down the road. Motion capture is cost prohibitive for most studios.

This game looks interesting. I play pretty much every 3rd person open world game. So I’m sure I’ll give it a go at some point.

Why does Sherlock look like a Twilight character?

I enjoyed The Devils Daughter, so I will probably play this in the future.

Nice buddy

Detective game with a Watch Dogs Profiler.
Really want that open world Robocop game.

This looks to be an iteration on Frogwares engine used to build Sinking City. Sinking City is a love letter to Lovecraft and an interesting if somewhat flawed game. The open world elements in Sinking City are pretty sparse. You walk or drive a boat around to get from one set to another.
I just started playing Sinking City, because I was like "an open world Lovecraft game?? Why have I note played this?"
But what I've experienced there is little interaction with the people walking around on the streets. Honestly it would feel better if I could just travel from building to building. The combat so far, has just been.... bad. GTA games from Rockstar have never been first class shooters, but the shooting mechanisms in Sinking City are are about on the same par as GTA 3 at the time that was released.
That said, they really got the Lovecraft part of this game down right. -
Accents suck
ID: hh9hysnWhat the fuck, I thought you were being picky so I loaded the trailer and holy shit.
It’s not just the accents, the delivery is atrocious. Maybe I should get into voice acting if the barrier for entry is inside the earth’s core

Okay this is great! I was worried this will be a typical detective game where the game tells you the answer indirectly by the way it presents the questions. This game seems like it has choices that can only be answered if you paid attention to the case.
ID: hh95ec5I agree. I think the choice mechanic has some tremendous potential. Because the game doesn’t look super great from a combat or exploration perspective.

I can't wait to play this! There aren't many options for playing detective games on consoles; most of them being Frogwares' other games. I'm excited to support these guys. Sounds like they're listening to the feedback they received on the Sinking City and implementing it in this game.

Looks intriguing, but the studio is pretty inconsistent with quality. I'll wait for reviews.

Lip-sync mocap is very expensive to make and requires specialist hardware and knowledge. Approximating mouth movements without going through all that bother is easier, but still takes a lot of resources to do well. And Frogwares is pretty middle-of-the-pack as a developer, without any huge blockbusters to their name, so it could be they simply did not have the funds.
