Cool. I'd love to see Intel and AMD split the market 50 / 50 and constantly compete with each other on price / performance.

ID: hj7ekwm

We'd need a few more years of intel failing to achieve that, and unfortunately it looks like we wont be getting it.

Better for the short term maybe, but not the long term.

ID: hj7jxlk

Oh Intel is still failing. Alderlake's big cores are huge and their little cores are a little more than half the size of the Zen 3 cores while the Zen 3 cores have hyperthreading. That's all with Intel's supposed density advantage. Then you get into the fact that it's still monolithic while AMD can MCM a Big.little design.

I hope intel can recover from whatever is happening.

Alder Lake is looking pretty spicy. We'll see some wenchmarks tomorrow and can go from there.

ID: hj7jblr

I think they will. Then vcache will come out then Zen 4 then gen 13 and hopefully they keep beating each other senseless with price reductions and we all win.

Simple answer: they didn't invest in fab to get beyond 14nm+++++++++++.

AMD was absolutely killing Intel back in the late 90's and early 20's. Before people actually kept track lol. 25% more performance, 25-50% cheaper and would still fit in your "intel" motherboard. Good times back then. You could pick between Intel, AMD and Cyrix - They all worked on a single motherboard. Try that today, I dare you.

Cyrix...now there's a name I haven't heard in a loooong time.

ID: hj7lf5d

I remember buying that processor so I could play Destruction Derby more smoothly haha - 66mhz increase compared to my 100mhz Pentium 🙂 PS: It worked.

ID: hj7hiwg

This is the early 20's

ID: hj7i4sx

Do you mean early 90s?

Cyrix hasn't been around for a while and AMD and Intel haven't had intercompatible motherboards for a while.

I had an AMD then, and I have 2 AMDs now.

ID: hj7ozqw

12 Zen+ cores

4 Zen 2 cores

18 Zen 3 cores

Can't wait for my Steam Deck to add another 4.

Previously:

FX-8300

X3 720 BE

Athlon XP -> 64 something or other (Socket A -> Socket 754)

AMD stock up 30% in the last month. They’re killing it. Need to be careful of Intels willingness to boost the wattage of their CPUs to insane levels to compete though. Alder Lake is competitive.

Well. Competitive-ish. I’m not buying big.little for my desktop.

ID: hj7uj9u

I'm currently sitting on +50% with my AMD shares.

Compared to that my savings account made me +0,005% over the last 5 years.

ID: hj7nhkx

Amd will move to Big Litte too.you wont buy AMD too then ? Dont speak too soon. There are many advantages to this approach. Hell this might give AMD an even bigger advantage than it does to Intel (who needs it more) due to Zen cores being smaller in size.(so they can pack more cores while maintaing efficiency, something AMD would want to keep hold of over intel)

Apple is already having big sucess with it and will see about intel tomorrow ig.

ID: hj7p3x9

Amd doesnt need to move to big little, their chiplet design means they can scale in a way that disregards the need for it

6 : Anonymous2021/11/03 22:26 ID: hj7jf6j

Yea fuck intel

ID: hj7kqa9

We don't do that here.

ID: hj7nzd4

The year intel didnt release a good product line was the year AMD rose prices and killed the Non-x SKUs (which were the reason the Community held AMD in high regards as people friendly)

And if AMD wasnt there to compete Alder lake wouldve also seen massive price hike and wouldnt have kept old pricing.

Stop being stupid

Dump my old I7107U to this new 5800X..just awesome with games, apps and emulation (runs Cemu and RPCS3 without issues). Vote with your dollars!
