- (Re)building the awe-inspiring machines of Horizon Forbidden West
There are some new clips in thisID: hjszqda
And basically:expanded unique behaviours for each machine more specific sounds from each machine overload can now change machine behaviour (aggressive/defensive state) machines can lead you to resources and more
Nothing really super big with this blog update.ID: hjt0ojn
i see only one clip in this link
A tall neck is still the pinnacle of design to me.ID: hju24ub
One of my dreams for the sequel was that it would expand more into water traversal, and that the oceanic version of a "tall neck" would be like a giant robot sea turtle that you swim to and solve some kind of puzzle to access.
We've got the first part at least hahaID: hju7jur
As a Zelda fan, an island turtle sounds dope. I hope there are secrets in the ocean, like with "Plessy."ID: hjtimyd
I mostly agree with this sentiment - watching the "feet" flair during landing and compact during the lift was a lovely bit of detail (especially with all those "toes").
My only peeve with the tallneck, though, is its walk animation, which lifts both legs on the same side at the same time, instead of the 1-3-2-4 step sequence seen in quadrupeds. Hope Guerilla corrects this for FW.ID: hjtnxaz
Cats, camels, and giraffes walk all-on-side then the other.
Edit: I can't (quickly) find a scientific article that specifically explains it, but it may have to do with having long legs and a short body. Since tallnecks are sort of a 'giraffe' animal with similar traits it makes sense the devs mimicked this.ID: hjtqkc1
Looks incredible, but it's basically a Roger Dean knock-off
Can't wait to take down one of those Mecha elephants
This game will be incredibly beautiful, glad that we will have more in depth options with Overridden machines. I'm still crossing my fingers for flying mounts. Let's hope Guerilla improved their engine enough to compensate for the PS4 lower specs.ID: hjteyxk
I'm betting that's gonna be in the third gameID: hjtj2b5Land Water AerialID: hjtntp3
Horizon Uncharted Sands
Corny name I know lolID: hjtulk0
They have said several times in interviews over the last few years, including just like 8 months ago that they wanted to do flying mounts but that the ps4 held them back from implementing it the way they wanted to so I would definitely not expect flying mounts. It's one of the sacrifices we made by it not being next gen only.ID: hjtm1pb
Flying mounts are out of the question since it's a cross gen gameID: hjvv539
I just think with all the traversal options they've added, forget about the technical issues with overriding a Sunwing and understand it trivializes major aspects of the game.ID: hju7eke
Ah yes, PS4 famously the console there were no plane games on XDID: hjtnhf7
I don't think it's out of the question.....Their decima engine was able to stream in textures no problem in Death Stranding using zip lines in game. So it's plausible.ID: hjtuklz

Just because they couldn't then, doesn't mean they can't now.
Mario Bros didn't let the screen scroll backward because "the NES held them back" and then guess what? Mario 2 and Mario 3 had it.
Can't freaking wait!
Better see a mechashark in the game 😀ID: hjtdam6
Oh man with the underwater stuff, I somehow didn't even think of mechashark. Or mechakraken!ID: hjte46k
Mechakraken in the DLC: the lost tribes of Atlantis
Holy crap you can make out the elbow skin pattern when she is pulling the bow! And this isn't even a 4k capture!!! Have we seen this sort of detail before in console gaming? Serious question, as I have not played last gen visual stunners such as TLOU II or RDR.
“The Tremortusk is based on a mammoth with a nod to the historic and cinematic examples of the great war elephants.
Bet the house on there being a trophy for taking down a Tremortusk called "That still only counts as one!"
One of the few games I've broken my no preorder rule for. Trying not to look at any more trailers etc so there's more surprises when I play.
Wish they made this next gen exclusive. Same with God of war.
How long are games going to be held back by past gen consoles.ID: hjto8su
This and God of War started development as PS4 games. They already put out PS5 exclusives with Returnal and Ratchet (you're probably about to say why those games don't count) and future games like Spider-Man and Wolverine are PS5 only. Everything will be fine.ID: hjt670t
I think we will start getting next-gen only games from 2023, covid has delayed entire game development cycle across the industry by 1 to 1.5 years....most of these 2022 games were supported to be released in 2021, we have no choice but to embrace it......it's looking fantastic anyway, gameplay model of Aloy looking like a CGI, so not a big problem to be honestID: hjux355
Christ cut them some slack lol
both Horizon and GoW were meant to basically be out already, but covid fucked the timelines.
That coupled with the fact that Sony haven't been able to meet the demand means there's less systems out there than they'd like.
So they have to keep supporting PS4, firstly because business-wise the PS5 can't sustain their business alone atm and secondly, because there's a lot of Playstation fans who haven't been able to buy a PS5 yet
Stop acting like an entitled child lolID: hjtc97c
They need to sell atleast 30-40 million PS5 to make big releases next gen only.
There are two problems here 1. Both God of war and horizon forbidden west have lot of fan base who eagerly want to play day 1. If they make those games next only then these fans will be irritated when they are not able to get PS5 which Sony itself struggling due to chip demand .
2 Assume Sony releases these game on PS5. It will sell only less . Also as more and more people buy PS5 in future they expect Sony to reduce game price since it is oldID: hjtf430
Alternatively, if Sony don’t make enough games next gen only, people don’t see the need for a ps5 (and may decide to buy The Competitors Console or a PC). There is only so long fans will get excited to see games on 8 year old hardware. Fans of a series may also get irritated that they are getting ‘more of the same’ rather than an actual sequel. I’m annoyed at hfw being cross gen, but not because of the developers. Hzd is excellent on my ps5, and I’m well up for hfw. But Sony’s disingenuous marketing, implying games were next gen but not being specific until after reveals and console launch leaves a real bad taste.ID: hjtdrp5
It makes sense for sure it's jusg frustrating.
Basically I am the idiot for buying into next gen.ID: hjszyba
When it makes financial sense for them, unfortunately. HFW doesn’t bother me tho since they didn’t even have a PS5 dev kit for majority of the development of HFW, it was built ground-up for PS4. GoW bums me out a bit.ID: hjt0n99
not really. let's just say how development started in 2018. dev kits weren't there until late 2019ID: hjtq6sn
Graphically this is not held back, arguably two best looking next gen games this and Forza Horizon 5 are cross gen. They are far better looking than next gen only games. 60 FPS hold back fidelity more so than Cross Gen games. Just look at Deathloop, graphically it looks nothing special, despite not releasing on PS4.
One other thing is sales. Making it on PS4 means they will sell way more. So R&C Rift apart, and Demon’s Souls sold less than 2 million but Miles Morales sold 6.5 million. For Returnal they didn’t make any profits, according to my estimates. Graphical Fidelity really depends more on budget than hardware. RDR2 on PS4 Pro looks far better than Far Cry 6 on PS5. Not surprising because Rockstar nearly have unlimited budget and time. They used 540 million.ID: hjt91jm
Until it makes Sony more money.
They said GT7 was next gen only, and changed their mind presumably when they realised not enough ps5s are out thereID: hjttj9q
For a game as expensive as GT7 it would've took probably a few months to even be profitable if it was only on ps5 lolID: hjtc249
It makes sense why they're doing what they're doing but It's really annoying that those with PS5s spent so much time fighting for one only for it to be almost pointless having one til 2022-23 earliest.
The list of games that were supposedly next gen only just gets smaller and smaller as more devs pull out of next gen.
Not reading this!! I saw enough to know from that one gameplay trailer I'm going to give this a shot. I wasn't as crazy about the first one as some people, I think there's room to improve. That being said I still want to go in fresh, the whole point of this type of game is the discovery to me. Seeing the machines for the first time.
I’m hoping there’ll be a horizon bundle with the original game, frozen wastes and forbidden west when Forbidden West comes out. I still need to play the first game.ID: hju89df
Yeah, what the other guy said. Horizon complete on sale is a steal. I played it for $40 in 2018 and it was the best thing I played that year. Unequivocally the best new IP of 8th gen.ID: hjtv7la
This very rarely happens. You'd be better off just getting HZD Complete edition which has been on sale constantly the last few years for $10-15 on the store.
I was so so invested in the lore and finding out what happened to the world in Zero Dawn that I worry about how engaged I'll be for this sequel.
I found it all so enticing to plow through and find out what happened to the old world that when the game told me I had to go back and rescue some NPC's sister who I couldn't give less of a shit about before I could continue with the real story it really screwed the pacing and left a negative impact.
They made the lore so interesting that I just do not give a single shit about any of the tribe bullshit. Now that we have the explanation about the old world i'm not sure how much the sequel will do for me. I didn't find the combat to be as amazing as most people did.ID: hjts1a3
Just curious, what did you not like about the combat? For me that was the highlight and I consider this in my top 3 games of all time. The story was interesting and finding out what happened was a driver, but honestly, even if the story sucked, the gameplay and environment are what sold me initially when I first the announcement trailer.ID: hjtypbe
I did like the combat just didn't find it to be as amazing as I see a lot of people post about here. It was definitely good but not as much of a draw for me as the world building and lore.
I'm surprised how little we've seen and heard of this game considering how close it is to release.
I wonder why Sony is keeping such a tight lid on this one???
Graphics and gameplay looks top notch. I'm a little worried about the story though. The first game story was a double edged sword... On one hand it had an amazing story with the lore of the world and how it came to be filled with the machines..on the other hand I felt the story of what was happening in the present was uninteresting and boring. Obviously the sequel can't rely on the first one too much... But I hope they make things more interesting in the present day.
i can't help be still be bummed about flying.
So no flying mounts
sounds like we're not mounting flying machine this time either :/
If I get the PS4 version then upgrade for free to the Ps5 version, will I still have the ps4 version available to me?
Also, if I pre-order the Ps5 standard edition, will be PS4 version be available to me for free?
