- Sony Wants to Repair its Relationship With its Indie Partners
-
Is it really that hard to get on the store ??? When I’m seeing games like lizard lady vs the cats!!! Note I was not looking for this dumpster fire it was just there lol
ID: hojxrzhID: hok9nipHow hard would it be to put indie crap in it's own section you have to purposefully seek out, along with all the dumb DLC and RMT addons that no one asked to view when perusing sales.
ID: hok6kz5Yeah just check out Breakthrough Gaming games. They supposedly release a new game every Sunday on PSN. Most of them look like Atari 2600 games but they play worse and have bible quotes.
ID: hokdi8nSteam is pretty close, they shove it all to the bottom of the front page and even then you have to specifically click New and not the default New and Trending
ID: hokm5rnGilson B. Pontes. 'Nuff said.
ID: hokx4nxThere really is no inbetween. You are always going to end up with 2 stores, one with all the nonstop flood of released indie games by the dozens daily that no one looks at due to poor noise to signal ratio and a "premium" store of curated, promoted, featured releases that every AAA/first party gets into and a few noteworthy indies of high acclaim. Basically the model that indie devs are upset about because every hopeless noname single dev indie releasing their my first unity project wants equal treatment and prime featuring for longer than a day before being flushed out by dozens of new indies developed and released the next day.
ID: hon3sjwThere is a sea of trash on xbox and steam too. Literally every single system is full of trash.
What makes Nintendo extra bad about it is they don't hide the trash well
ID: honfqtsi’ve never found myself scrolling thru shovelware games on gamepass or the xbox store, personally. if anyone has a user-friendly digital marketplace, it’s xbox.
ID: hok7567The point isn't really that it's hard to get on the store as an indie game. It's more that you can have an indie game that's actually good, but you'll still get the same amount of exposure on the store as the stuff like "Lizard Lady vs the Cats" or "ZJ the Ball" or whatever. The store really doesn't do much to separate the diamonds from the coal.
ID: hol6icgIn short: yes. Not in terms of quality management. In terms of the actual process and hurdles involved.
Source: work for indie publisher.

There's a fine line between pushing quality indie games and having massive amounts of shovelware like Nintendo's eshop. I get what the devs are complaining about but opening the floodgates is not good either.

I want a console port of Inscryption goddamnit
ID: hojpu1bI want an expanded Act I of Inscryption. What a gem!
ID: hok0lxoWent into beta today
ID: hok089oI asked the dev whether it'll come to PlayStation or Switch and he said it's "in the process" but "could be a while".
ID: hok08i9This and Wildermyth pls
ID: hol1207and i want a console port of crab game

Were relationships that broken? Thought the last problem regarding issues is that it was hard to find some of them on the ps store.
ID: hoiyal6You can read what the complaints were.
The complaints in July were “Sony’s lack of communication, sales restrictions, and the struggles of indie games to get noticed on its platform”
ID: hoj7ktereally hoping sony doesn't react too far on stuff like sales restrictions. I look at the switch store and its a sea of indie trash constantly on sale, 800-1500 games on sale constantly
I love good indies but there is plenty of indie trash on everyones stores these days and letting them do whatever they want just leads to hard to navigate stores
-
Sony - "and so, we are launching Net Yarozee!"
-
Does wishlisting do anything on the PS Store? You'd think that would be an easy metric to measure fan interest and thus how much promotion it needs. There's plenty of games I want to support but I don't use Steam.
Edit: I meant does it help the devs get discovered
ID: hol2fgcYes now when games in your wish list go on sale you get a notification
ID: hol3tnqI meant does it help the discoverability of the game?
-
As long as it doesn't turn into the Nintendo E-shop.
They let anything in, and it's not a good thing.
ID: holu9hwIt is important to have technical requirements to avoid damaging the console but after that the platform holders need to trust the market and have pro customer policies that would hold developers accountable.
-
So this is why the PSN store is the ONLY major digital storefront that's not absolutely overloaded with huge piles of cheap shovelware garbage, asset flips, and mobile games? This is a bad thing? I mean, there's garbage on there, but it's nowhere near as bad as steam or the eshop.
I mean, have you ever even tried to look at the sales page on the switch? It's just hundreds of hundreds of worthless titles cluttering up the interface.
ID: hom2houI've given up browsing through the eshop for any deals. At this point, I just mark a few games I want on wishlist and call it a day. If I get an email notification it's on sale, I'd check it out.
I have zero interest in discovery nowadays on the Switch.

I love playing Indie games on console, but god there are multiple ones with broken trophies
-
Sort the PS Store by new and the amount of shite that gets uploaded is amazing. Someone is selling their "game" level by level for 99c each.
Some Christian developer is making these insulatingly simple monochrome games that look primitive than a 2600 game and filling them with bible quotes to relate to the game in some shape or form. (Bowling being one of these games)
People always joke about Life of the Black Tiger but there is wellll worse on the thing now.
ID: hol8g5zThose games exist solely to extract money from trophy hunters
-
Only high quality indie games on PSN please, not like the continuous flow of absolute garbage that has plagued the Nintendo eshop.
-
I hope it doesn’t end up like the switch eshop full of trash games..
ID: homj0adSorry to burst your bubble, but...
Search 'ZJ the ball' or even just "Breakthrough Game's next time you're on the psstore.
We're already there.

Can we get that Braid Anniversary Edition?
-
I miss the days of PS3 store content. Plants vs Zombies, Bejeweled, Feeding Frenzy, Jetpack Joyride, Angry Birds...
-
They should do this by evaluating and reviewing more Indie games and promoting the actual diamonds. Not by just raising the visibility of all smaller games as a whole.
It made me wonder who it was that was complaining about how Sony treats Indie studios. Was it someone like the developers of Among Us, or Fall Guys or Untitled Goose Game before they were known? Or was it some one man unity project that’s worse than what you can find on Dreams? I only ever saw anonymous developer comments being published. -
What is that thumbnail? White shell with red body dualsense?
ID: hol5l6qLooks like just a weird filte
on a normal Dual SenseID: holbtwxThey should take notes and sell that color scheme
-
How about they repair their relationship with customers by having an actual return policy like every other player in the industry.
ID: hojfe6dThey have the same return policy as every other console
ID: hojif8dHow about staying on topic instead of bringing up shit in totally irrelevant posts?
ID: hok8z3oWhy not both
-
They can start with Crate, and give us a Grim Dawn port.
-
Is this why there were free random games for me when I went on the mobile app?
I didn't want them but I downloaded anyway they look like mobile games...
Too bad we don't get the good indies from Devolver Digital
-
The new games section did have some Unity beginner level stuff for £0.89
-
Wow there’s a lot of PS apologists here even though PS themselves have said it’s an issue.

Yeah people saying that the PS store is gonna soon become as "bad" as the Nintendo eshop and how Sony only accepts quality titles on the store are delusional. There has been a sea of indie trash on the ps store for years now. It kinda comes with the territory of having a popular platform and its a delicate balance that no store has mastered imo.
