Persona 5 was developed as a PS3 game. It will be interesting to see what Atlus does in leapfrogging a generation.

ID: hso4ny0I honestly thinknthey probably are. Persona 5 was one of the last PS3 games to come out, and Atlus will likely want the opportunity to sell their game to the 100 million plus PS4 console owners who don't have a PS5, especially if it's PS exclusive.

ID: hslt2j4Piggybacking on this comment to point out that the source of this report is a video podcast by YouTuber Nate The Hate, and he says in the comments that he misspoke and meant PlayStation exclusive, not PS5 only. Something anyone could have told you. So this report doesn’t hold water.
EDIT: Basically, the Persona stuff in general seems like just offhand comments from Nate that shouldn’t have turned into an article. There’s other stuff in that video that seems to be him legitimately reporting stuff he’s heard, but not the Persona stuff. That’s more like him just making obvious assumptions.

ID: hslvfchWhile the anime asthetic doesn't need to change, graphically you can still bring in a lot of new tech to make it all pop more. For example games like KH3 and Rift apart kept their same design asthetics over the years but made massive visual improvements from previous generations.

Another leak claimed that Persona 4 Golden – following its successful PC port in 2020 – will now be coming to both the Nintendo switch and PlayStation sometime in 2022.

ID: hslowwfConsidering there's no release date that also makes sense. Could come out a year or two from now, I'm not sure how long the transition period lasted from ps3 to ps4 though. I have a feeling 2022 is gonna be the final year for first party cross gen releases (atleast for those that haven't been announced already) especially with how fast game development tech is progressing; as this is the first generation that these consoles weren't severely outdated on launch.
ID: hsll10jThe way persona plays I find this very hard to believe. 120 M PS4's by the time it releases would be too big to say no to. Especially when it's the type of game that would run fine on even the base PS4.
ID: hslzw07Persona 4 did exceptionally well on PC and Sega has come out and said that they want to make PC a higher priority for future titles so it is a little bit surprising IMO. Also Japanese companies in general have started to open up more to PC because they've finally realized that there's actually a massive market there, like Capcom recently said that they want to make PC their primary development platform in the future.
ID: hsm5s42Yeah true but P5 hasn't come to PC so I'm not sure it's a big focus at the moment, although I do wish it would be considering the games would gain a bigger fandom along with it. Either way I won't find it surprising at all if the franchise stays mainly exclusive.

Why are people acting like the game is coming out tomorrow and talking about PS5 sales? The game could be 2+ years away for all we know. What we do know is it isnt coming out anytime soon since it isnt even announced yet

I honestly don't care if it's PS4/PS5 cross gen. I think a lot of people try to reduce the stylistic/design decisions they made with P5 as "it was held back by PS3 hardware" but I don't think it even logically follows. It's not as if the visual fidelity and scope of P5 is somehow the maximum of what the PS3 could handle. There are far better looking games and much bigger worlds. So what exactly was the hardware holding back? You can easily say that these were conscious design decisions that would've been made regardless of what system it was built for.
I don't really need a next gen exclusive that takes full advantage of what the hardware can do in what is essentially a visual novel with turn based combat. Who played P5 and thought "this needs to be an enormous open world with photo-realistic graphics"?
