Summary : Taken directly from YouTube Comment made by Green Blossom
Dan played one character for a 10-hour session
The intro cinematic has not been revealed. - It is NOT the cinematic we have seen featuring the Snow Witch (aka Storyteller).
The intro is classic Souls. Shows characters you will meet, including the "Loathsome Dung Eater" Starting classes: Vagabond - Warrior - Hero - Bandit - Astrologer - Prophet - Samurai - Prisoner - Intelligencer
One of these starting classes is like the 'Deprived'
There are starting gifts
Tutorial is in a different area from Closed Network Test. Classic souls tutorial. Wake up, get killed by a boss named 'Grafted Scion', then spawn into CNT starting cave in Limgrave
The game is noticeably more difficult than CNT and its loot has been changed
He did not notice any UI changes
He heavily emphasizes how different the game feels without the CNT boundaries- with the freedom to go in any direction. Hard to predict expected difficulty Limgrave is 3x the size of CNT, rest of it does have diversity compared to CNT portion.
Stormveil Castle is huge, nonlinear. has vertical exploration with jumping. densely packed with dangerous foes compared with open field. can be skipped
Map fragment locations are marked even on the blank map
Lots of story and characters. Met 15-20 NPCs. and they're more complex than in Souls
Different zones have entirely different aesthetics, atmospheres, physical layouts and enemy designs.
His starting gift was the stonesword key. (He thinks it could be like Pharros Lockstones from Dark Souls 2.) It can be used on the imp statue in the starting cave to unlock a dungeon full of traps and giant automated chariots on tracks. He killed the Stonedigger Troll boss in Limgrave Tunnels who dropped his hammer (different drop from CNT). Its Skill was a shout that damaged and pushed back enemies. There are poison swamps There are NPC invaders Dungeons are far more diverse compared with CNT. Mini dungeons are plentiful Found many components to mix in the Flask of Wondrous Physick Paintings are items that show a place somewhere in the world. if you find the location depicted, you can find the spirit of the artist The "Pot Boys" can be enemies, large and small versions. Alexander the Iron Fist is still friendly and found in Limgrave, but did not move to hub Margit the Fell is "nothing compared to Godrick". he drops an additional talisman slot (like rings from Dark Souls). Game begins with one talisman slot NPC named D, an Undead Hunter, in East Limgrave who marked his map with places to meet the Beast Clergy. D tells him about an undead village that has been taken over by a Mariner. After clearing the village, D will go to the hub. The ability to summon spirits is given by the Snow Witch Spirit summons can be upgraded by Roderika the spirit tuner. She will go to hub when found Patches and the Moonlight Greatsword are back Desert/badlands region with a blood-red sun east of Limgrave. An NPC told him about Castle Mourne, an optional mid-sized level in southern Limgrave, on the Weeping Peninsula. Boss is named Leonine Half-breed Additional Flasks of Crimson Tears can be acquired by locating Minor Erdtrees around the world, which have Golden Seeds. number of seeds required per flask starts at 1 and increases. In southern Limgrave, he found a tiny building with an elevator that goes very far down. There is an entire massive realm underground called the Eternal City. Purple and 'meteoric'. He didn't get far before Bandai told him to leave. Found a different Evergaol from the one in CNT, but fought the same boss (Bloodhound Knight Darriwil) NPC Kenneth Haight. gives quest to go recover his fort from enemies. once you clear the fort, the enemies vanish for good and Kenneth moves in there. A bridge by Stormveil with a portal that takes you to the Divine Tower of Limgrave high above the world. Requires two Crescent Seals to progress
Godrick the Grafted: (actual name on boss health bar) - first critical boss of the game. main boss of Stormveil Castle. not required to defeat to progress to a different area - huge, complex moveset. few openings. very difficult. killed his spirit summon in 1 hit. - drops 'Remembrance of Godrick' (probably his 'boss soul') and a Great Rune as he is a critical boss.
Field Boss: Bone Beckoner Mariner - Takes place in a shallow lake near the village D mentioned. The boss is in a boat and summons undead. The boat has attacks - difficult boss on foot, much easier on mount. he notes that mounted combat is generally valuable for field bosses -boss drops a skeletal militiaman summon that revives once when killed
Raya Lucaria: (note: this is the castle/dungeon's name. the actual name of the open field was not shown to him. he guesses it is Caria.) - probably considered the game's "second zone" after Limgrave - magical castle atop a flat, misty watery area of crystals, balloons and ocean creatures. - Enemies include giant lobsters, snails, turtle warriors, and magic war machines with pilots. lots of mages/"evil Hogwarts" - lots of half-submerged buildings, sometimes have to parkour them over deep water - "Irithyll or Anor Londo dialed up" - castle itself is locked. need glintstone key
Roundtable Hold: - Melina can warp you to the hub, Roundtable Hold, a place for Tarnished to gather - several NPCs already there. NPCs found in the world can move there - the warp first occurred when he rested at a new Site of Grace near Stormveil Castle - hub is not directly accessible from the world. it is not located in the Lands Between - Arthurian/Bloodborne aesthetic - has a blacksmith who resembles Andre from Dark Souls. he is a prisoner there. required to upgrade weapons above +3 - Two Maiden Husks NPC asks him for 'bell bearings' - contains an arena where he was attacked by a 'Frenzy Tongue' enemy with a scythe and frost magic. reminded him of Gehrman from Bloodborne - NPC named Fia, the Deathbed Companion, whom you can embrace anytime for a consumable buff- but you can only hold 1 at a time. (like Divine Child's rice from Sekiro)
"Do you think Elden Ring will take Bloodborne's throne?" "Yeah, I do."
He feels like 10 hours was nothing and he barely scratched the surface of the game. Called it "the GOAT". Said he was more hyped for it than any game in his life or career
"How is this game for a new player?" "It could seem overwhelming and challenging at first, but once you get into it you'll probably never want to play another game again."
ID: huu5dkfID: hutz27mAppreciate the notes you took!
ID: huuvgo5Bloodborne doesn’t hold the throne, Demon’s Souls Remake does. Glad to hear the game is great, though.
ID: huv0a09The graphics throne.
ID: huv6duqDemon Souls remake is fantastic. The issue is it remade Demons Souls. Less weapons, useless armor, op magic, less content.
The actual game blows audio visuals out of the water, but it was a a watered down DS1 imo. Loved it non the less
ID: huv13v3DS:R looks and plays great.
But there are very few items, every area is gimmiky (bosses incredibly so), and magic is so OP that there are no builds/playstyles that compare.
I love these games, and while I've replayed BB several times, I don't find myself yearning to replay DS:R.
ID: huv66wqNah, DS1, Sekiro and DS3 are the top 3 in no particular order.
ID: huvf99bOkay I'm glad it's a bit harder than the Network Test the Network Test was crazy easy outside of Margit
ID: huu7z47You know they paid him good when they gotta mention Bloodnorne. Not saying it won’t be the best game in the series but Christ the shilling is so obvious.
ID: huuy0weYou're saying that as if Bloodborne being the best FS game is some undeniably established fact, when the fanbase is still quite divided on the best Souls game. And I say that as someone who does think Bloodborne is currently the best Souls game

Looking forward to trying this.
Only thing that's bugging me is Forbidden West also comes out a week earlier. Ugghh decisions on what to prioritize. Overall fantastic we have a 'problem' with multiple great games releasing so close together.
ID: hutzip8I’m gonna play Horizon for a week then play Elden Ring. If Elden Ring kicks my ass and the pull to finish Horizon is strong, maybe I’ll return to it. If I get lost in Elden Ring, I get lost in Elden Ring and return to Horizon later.
I am bummed it has to be this way though. Haven’t purchased a ‘new’ game since last summer and these two are easily what I am most hyped for this coming year- and they release so close to one another I gotta pick and choose and overlap.
First world problems ya’ll.
ID: huvxddrWhy not just leave one for later? I'm getting both and probably won't touch either for a month or so, just wanted to secure the steelbook and other collectables.
ID: huw35maThis is the way
ID: huw0bjsNormally would be pumped for Forbidden West, but I won’t be touching it for awhile because of Elden Ring. I won’t have time to really sink my teeth into Forbidden West with only a week to play it, so I’m just skipping it until I’m done with Elden Ring. Who knows, maybe there will be a sale on Forbidden West by the time I’m done with Elden Ring.
ID: huu8dvlIt gets worse. GT7 is out one week after ER. I pre-ordered physical copies for all 3 because I get a discount on pre-orders (and I went for the GT7 25th anniversary edition as it comes with both the DVD and a digital code that I'm gifting my brother).
I'll play a bit of HFW, then focus on Elden Ring. Since I bought the PS4 version of HFW as it's cheaper, I'll follow as my wife plays it on our PS4. Once GT7 comes out I'm probably playing that when I feel like having an Elden Ring break.
All these games should keep me busy until Forspoken releases - if it's worth buying, that is. As for Sifu... I really wanted to play it but it couldn't have been delayed to a worse time.
ID: huv4jt6The PS4 version of HFW has a free upgrade to PS5 just FYI.
ID: hutxpf0I pre-ordered both games but I'm worried about time here. Luckily have holidays currently, but yeah this is a good problem to have. Much better then there being a game drought lol.
I'll mostly play horizon for a week until Elden ring comes out and continue horizon in between or after I complete Elden ring. The only problem I have is that I got the PS4 digital version of HFW though, and don't see PS5 version in my library.
ID: hutzvpdIf you can’t now, after release go to the ps store page for horizon and you should be able to download the ps5 version. It probably only shows one version now because it isn’t downloadable yet. Just double check before you download, both option should be available through the store if you own a ps5.
ID: huuctfmEasy one for me. I'm not paying £70 for Horizon so I'll be picking up Elden Ring.
ID: huushdbYou don't have to pay £70, just buy the ps4 one and upgrade.
ID: huu1e4jInsert the "why not both?" gif from that old animated El Dorado movie here.
ID: huud8glDo what I'm doing.
Buy HFW and finish it off in a week and sell it right away. You'll find buyers for 80-90pc of the original price easily (it happens at least where I'm from). Then buy Elden Ring and take your sweet time with it
This strategy works for me because I won't play Horizon again for at least 6 months.
ID: huwytitFinish a giant, open-world epic in a week? Sheesh.

Seems like the difficulty is increased compared to CNT, which is a great thing! I am so hyped for this game!!
-
This seems fun man and I'm not into souls games. I'll probably pick it up on sale because I suck pretty hard at these but I'll definitely buy it
ID: huuwly8I think this game is different enough that previous struggles probably won't carry over. I say give it a shot.
ID: huutal6Please give it a shot anyway.
Elden Ring has a slew of new features that aim to help tailor the difficulty to your choosing.
ID: huv2rjbCan you explain some of that more? I’m intrigued but quit on demons souls and blood born.

Tried to just skim the main bullet points in order to avoid spoilers, and from what I see, this is exactly what I’m looking for. Fuck yes, let’s go boys.

ID: huvpxqkAt some point, gamers are going to have to accept the reality that enthusiast 'news' sites are almost exclusively advertising outlets. It is the business model that all of these sites operate on. Some, like Kotaku, will also run op-eds, and then investigative journalism in gaming is pretty much limited to Jason Schreier (which is why he ended up at an actual news outlet). Virtually everything else is advertising and press releases made to look like news.
ID: huu83jlJust made a comment on this, and quite frankly I think it’s obvious he’s been paid to say these things.
ID: huufg18So his job is to work at game informer so my guess is he receives a pay-check every month to write about games. Could be wrong though…

I remember when everyone called Death Stranding the Goat game.
-Never been this excited for a game in my life -Never going to want to play another game -Best Looking game ever -Yada Yada yada
Elden Ring... You're up!!!!
ID: huv95j1I think this one's pretty simple. If you like Dark Souls, you'll like Elden Ring. If you don't like Dark Souls, you won't like Elden Ring. Fans will think it's the best game ever, non-fans will think it's a massively overhyped disappointment.
ID: huv856oDid people actually play Death Stranding before release? Any sort of closed network tests available to the public?
I've played Elden Ring already. This will not be a "death stranding" or "cyberpunk". The network test alone was more fun than both of these games imo. Anyone who thinks this hasn't been following ER closely enough or are just trolling.
ID: huw07y6I predict your prediction is wrong.

Fuck me I did not expect 3 hours when I clicked that link

He also said after spending the 10 hours with it, this is the most hyped he's ever been professionally or personally for a game. A small caveat in he's a huge dark souls fan. Take it how you will
