Anyone have a reliable link or copy of the 4.03 firmware PUP file? Purchased a console on 3.2 and want to get to 4.03 to try the PS online trick to download game updates, etc.
-
You should find 4.03 here, but if you want to be safe, I recommend not updating until something gets released.
ID: ht42uz7ID: ht432wtIt is potentially exploitable, but I think you should wait for the developers to release something first. I don't believe you will be waiting too long
ID: ht6u7atI thought 4.03 was still confirmed potentially exploitable?
Every firmware is "potentially exploitable", even ones that haven't come out yet.

I'd stay on the lowest firmware possible if I was you my dude. I'm on 2.x and I updated TLOU no problem.
ID: ht42qkaHow? My understanding is that 4.03 is required for the work around (spamming login) to access PS online and download PS4 upgrades, games in your library, etc.?
ID: ht42zi4That is true for if you want to login to PSN.
But for updating your disc games you can be on any firmware, and you don't need to sign into PSN.

Mine it on 4.00 and it's downloads the game updates fine and I don't even have a ps online account even logged in.
ID: ht43ljnYes but the PS5 upgrades to PS4 games? Just unsure of that workaround. Thought you had to be on PSN for that, no?
ID: ht44a5aWell I updated zero horizon dawn and it the 60fps update on it and that is the ps5 update no?

you don't need to be online on PSN to download game updates. This includes patches for things like HZD 60fps or TLOU2 60FPS (though this one requires a more recent firmware but it may be 3.2).
You only need to be online to download things like PS5 upgrade to Death Stranding or similar.
ID: ht6lrfoI understand, but where / how can you tell the difference between a patch / download / upgrade? Are there any markers I can check in software pointing me to whether for instance my console updated to a PS4 vs a PS5 upgraded version of the software?
Yet to find a definitive answer.

Upgrades to PS5 versions you need to get from the PSN store. There is no way to miss it or mistake it for an update. It's like downloading a new game from PSN that you don't have installed. You may not be able to get with without updating to the latest version of firmware since you need to be signed into PSN with your profile to access the store.
Your console will not upgrade a PS4 version to a PS5 version by itself.
If you install a PS4 version of a game from disc, you can then download updates for the PS4 version. You don't need to be signed in for this and you only need to be connected to the internet. You can see these updates in the 'Downloads' section by pressing the PS button on the controller. Here you have the option to 'Cancel and Delete' an update if you don't want it. There are some situations where you don't want these updates, for example, in my case, I have a game called Shadow of the Colossus for PS4. I know that the version that comes on disc has an unlocked framerate that didn't work too well with the PS4 but works great with the PS5. I don't want it to update because it will then lock my framerate at 30fps with the latest update. Every time I connect my console to the internet (which is not often anymore and i'm on 4.03) it tries to download an update for it an I have to cancel every time.
There are some games, such as TLOU2, which despite being a PS4 game, will require a PS5 upgrade to update to a newer version (1.08 unlocked 60FPS on PS5 and requires I believe 3.00 or 3.20 to work properly). If this is the case, when you attempt to install the update, it will say that I can't and will recommend you download the latest firmware before installing. The majority of PS4 games don't require a newer PS5 firmware to work and update and have been working fine since FW 2.x which was needed to enable PS4 backwards compatibility
Other cases such as Spider-man Remastered which can only be downloaded from the PSN store are a little trickier because they used to work with older firmware with a previous update but the latest version needs the latest firmware. So if you downloaded it before with the older firmware, great but this means you can't update and you can't download a fresh copy because the fresh copy will be the latest, which doesn't work unless you update your PS5.
When you connect to the internet, your PS5 will attempt to download the latest version of firmware by itself. This will take a little bit since it needs to download 1G of data. If it does this, press the PS button on the controller and go to the Downloads section. You will see the firmware update being downloaded where you can 'Cancel and Delete' it like a game update and it won't try again until you connect to the internet again or if you have it enabled to auto update while in rest mode.
If you're paying attention while you connect to the internet, there is little change that you will automatically update the PS5. You always have the option to Cancel a Delete an update, even if it starts downloading automatically.
I don't know what happens if a PS5 firmware update finishes downloading, I've never let it get that far.
Always disconnect from the network and disable network when you finish your PS4 (or even PS5 game updates).

I thought 4.03 was still confirmed potentially exploitable? Just attempting to grab stuff off my purchased library, upgrade PS4 games to PS5, etc.
Open to any suggestions.
