- Final Fantasy XIV Getting First Graphics Upgrade With Next Expansion; Will Become More Solo-Friendly
-
i'm so in love with this game. 150h hours in and barely scratching the surface. first mmo i've played but it's so fun doing dungeons with other people.
ID: hxpnwn8ID: hxq1z1hFuck it - I’m going to buy it. I need a good mmo right now
ID: hxq3nykFree trial resumes on Tuesday. I'd do that first before making the monetary commitment.
ID: hxq24vpbro it's awesome! they are letting people into the free trial again in a couple of days which doesn't require a subrscription, it does have restrictions and shit like that though.
ID: hxq0mypIt’s a MMO with easily the best story, best community, best support for controller, most flexibility in class varieties. Just astonishing how good the game is.
ID: hxq1m8ni've had 99% good interactions with people which is great. my free month is up now but I managed to get through heavensward, gonna buy endwalker and continue my sub after i'm done with horizon and elden ring, 100%.
ID: hxq37tcThe 2 newest expansions have the best story in ANY Final Fantasy game, EVER.
I've played every mainline game from FF 1 to 15, and all the sequels because I'm a dork.
I love 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 with a burning passion. Some amazing stories there.
XIV Shadowbringers and Endwalker's stories beat all other FF mainline story ever.
ID: hxqwpfxSpeaking of controller support the haptics are suprisingly really good and spot on
ID: hxqx05cI'm something like 700 hours in and discovering stuff. Just last night I was left amazed when I found a map in a bottle while gathering on my first ever crafting job, the map led me on a mental experience.
ID: hxqxw4hthat's great to hear. haven't touched the crafting/gathering jobs yet but probably will when I can afford to get on again 😀
ID: hxpyhvvI've been playing since ARR, and from then through Shadowbringers I just played casually with each update of the Main Scenario Quests. Then something just.... clicked with Endwalker and I am absolutely obsessed. Went from only having 1 or 2 jobs at max level every expansion, to having almost half the jobs at 90 now. And there is still so much content from previous expansions that I haven't even touched yet. This year is starting to pop off in terms of long awaited game launches, and I still make time to play FF14 every single day.
ID: hxr33phI just did /playtime and I’ve played for over 1.5 years. That’s actual playing time. And even I haven’t finished countless things. Buckle up! Games fuckin huge.
ID: hxqwkt6Its the only game I played on a daily basis. I never been so invested in a game like this before. So good

How much more solo friendly can this game get? I'm only ~40% done with the free trial (roughly level 30) but I could pretty much do everything (aside from a few dungeons, which force multiplayer) without interacting with another player.
ID: hxr5i1kInstead of matchmaking with others, they’re going to enable the trust system, which is something that shows up in Shadowbringers. You can partner with NPCs to complete dungeons.
ID: hxrfb9yOh, like in FF11?
-
Trying to get into this game, when is the graphic upgrade happening, I feel like that would be a good point to start playing
ID: hxpoz5sNext expansion. FFXIV typically gets a new expansion every 2 years and the latest expansion Endwalker just released at the end of 2021, so likely we will see the upgrade at the end of 2023.
ID: hxpxqn7They revealed that they will take slightly longer time per patch from now on so expect the next expansion in early 2024.
-
Correct me if I am wrong, will the graphical update apply to the whole game since the beginning (ARR and beyond) or will it just be the future expansions from that point onwards?
ID: hxr74s6Said from 2.0 which is the very beginning.
-
If they made it completely solo I might play.
ID: hxqift2It's very solo friendly already. It matchmakes you in dungeons and there's not a huge emphasis on communication but it's always there if you need help.

The graphics upgrade are likely the team using improvements from XVI's development, or the team using XIV as a test bed for new effects they're adding to XVI. With the remarks from SE implying XVI is closer than we think, XVI could be in that polish phase where they're just adding and refining the visual fidelity and with 20 million beta testers for such effects, why not.
ID: hxpqfozI highly doubt it. They’re not going for anywhere near FFXVI’s visual fidelity.
ID: hxpu4pcInterestingly sixteen might be on a new engine altogether from one of yoshies comments a while back
ID: hxq70vtIt's likely on a version of Luminous; XIV used 1.5, and XVI looks to be an evolution of the MMO-based Luminous engine which at this point could be distinct enough to be its own engine. Luminous 2.0, used in FFXV and Forspoken, is Luminous Studio; so XVI's engine could be a Luminous 2.0b, taking on a new naming.
Considering Luminous 1.5 is 10 years old and Luminous Studio is going on 6 years, XIV/XVI's engine should just take on a new name. I doubt XVI would be this close if they swapped to an entirely new engine.

How does this play on PS5 (and with a gamepad)?
ID: hxr3yk5Amazing
-
wish I could have money to play the game (already got to lvl 60 on the free trial)
-
Wanted to love this game, but it's just a real slog. So many cut scenes, so little action
-
If they made this like Elder Scrolls and didn’t charge a subscription I would play this game. I love MMO’s and this game has always appealed to me but I can’t spend $14 a month to play it.
-
So the graphical upgrade will come in 7.0? When is it coming? Next year? Cus I plan to replay the game when it comes out.
ID: hxpxw3oLate 2023, the earliest.
ID: hxpy4rhWhat?, Haha then I gonna settle for Genshin Impact until this comes out.
ID: hxqbor9Endwalker just got released last December. Usually they are on a 2 years expansion cycle but they said that they are now going to release major patch on a 4 months cycle instead of 3.5 months. So it is possible that the next expansion will take more than 2 years to be release.
My guess would be early summer 2024.

So, I can’t bring myself to do another mmo. I pay for internet, I pay for ps plus to play games online, then to top it off I have to pay a subscription fee for an mmo and then they shove micro transactions throughout the mmos. This is not gaming this is greed at every level.
ID: hxrkxs4Logic goes brrr.
You don’t pay for internet to play FFXIV exclusively. That’s like saying you pay for your electricity as a cost of FFXIV.
Ps+ is not required to play FFXIV.
I pay $120 a year (6m sub discount +veteran discount) to play FFXIV. I play it for over 200 hours a year. (Lol. Probably more but let’s keep it simple.)
I paid $70 for Returnal and played it for 50 hours. (Roughly.) I paid $60 for Horizon Forbidden West and will play it for 30-50 hours. I’ll pay $60 for Elden Ring and play it for 60-70 hours. I’ll pay $60 for stranger in paradise and play it for 60+ depending on endgame.
MTX (Micro transactions) in FFXIV is purely vanity and has no impact on your gameplay. There are plenty of custom options included in your base sub.
…you see where this is going?
TL;DR Playing an MMO you enjoy and are dedicated to is more cost effective than buying a new game every other month every year. Even paying on a monthly full basis (14.99/mo) is cheaper.

Ff16 hopefully will be out this year, I am hoping 17 is in development and will be online for ps5, series X and pc only.
Ff14 is amazing but I want the next level in graphics.

Playing it on and off but it is taking so much of my time that I need to stop because my backlog is growing too much.
