Naughty Dog (where the hell have I been)

Been a pc gamer for a good number of years, I always had a ps4 but 30fps..... it just never got switched on. A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to pick up a PS5 (you know how it's been). Now finally I'm catching up on all the great PS4 titles but on the PS5 at 60fps. Now those Naughty Dog games, wow... just wow! I'm kinda glad I never played them on PS4 now. Not long finished TLOU2 and I've just started Uncharted 4. How fantastic are these games?! Right up my ally and story rich. Graphically you wouldn't know these are PS4 titles. I CANNOT WAIT to see what Naughty Dog bring to the PS5 table. I just hope hope hope they can stick to 60fps as I'd take framerate over graphics any day of the week. Right, back to Uncharted. Only played 10mins and I'm already hooked.

Make sure you play the lost legacy

ID: hxps6wp

Will do!

ID: hxr2xix

If you love Last of Us 1 for the story and characters, Make sure you don't play Last of Us 2. If you love it just for the gameplay, then part 2 is ok. Bring the downvotes

3 : Anonymous2022/02/20 15:19 ID: hxplynd

Just checking if you’ve played the older titles in the series? Last of us remastered and uncharted collection also run at 60fps

ID: hxpm6kg

Did Last of us remastered but not the fist Uncharted. Jumped straight into A Thief's End.

ID: hxpmfae

The first one you could probably skip over. It’s fun but the games went next level for 2 and 3. I would recommend them highly if you’re enjoying uncharted 4, would also clear up elements of the story you might not understand

ID: hxpsssv

I also wanna recommend you play uncharted 2 and 3 before 4.

ID: hxqyj7f

Some will say skip #1 or even just jump into four, but I seriously recommend playing 1-4 in order. 1 nicely introduces the characters and shows many first introductions between them. 2 has moments depending on recognizing content and characters from 1. And 4 is built upon the character development from the whole story throughout the series.

Every story in this series is perfectly serviceable as a standalone adventure, yet any fan of Uncharted and good storytelling will tell you that, above all else, the progression of each character’s development from the first to the last entry of Nate’s story is the standout element of Uncharted.

ID: hxq3u4q

Bruh imagine skipping uncharted 1,2 and 3 and just playing 4

ID: hxr87di

Are you playing the legacy collection? Or just uncharted 4 on backwards compatibility? Because I’m pretty sure it’s only 30fps if it’s BC. I might be wrong but I can’t remember if they updated it like they did TLOU2

LOU2 on Ps5 was unreal… Definitely comparable to the high level Ps5 games I’ve played (Demons Souls, Returnal, Ratchet and Clank)

But nothing touches Naughty Dog for basically ever metric in game design. They’re unbeatable. Can’t wait to see what they come out with.

ID: hxqcuym

I wouldn't say their games are the best at shooting mechanics though

ID: hxqg295

No? I think lou2 has great shooting mechanics personally

ID: hxqrybw

The actual shooting isn't obviously up there with shooting focused titles, but the overall combat system is so far and above anything else in the 3rd person shooter genre. Bar maybe Returnal.

ID: hxqijv0

Agreed. I think their shooting mechanics need some work. But they're masters at making you feel like you're playing an actual movie.

ID: hxrchfe

That’s a decent point

ID: hxqm7j4

Story has been faltering recently

ID: hxqo3s5

I'd argue that it's getting better and more complex.

ID: hxqnn8r

Not for me, exceeded my expectations.

ID: hxr22qs

Naughty dog has the best presentation in the industry, but are middle of the road in nearly every design aspect. I can think of a million games with better shooting, better stealth, better level design, better AI, etc. And especially the case with TLOU2, countless games with MUCH better stories than the absolute slop that was in that game.

5 : Anonymous2022/02/20 15:54 ID: hxpqxhd

Dude I’m actually the same as you right now. Just finished last of us 1/2 and uncharted 4. Was blown away.

6 : Anonymous2022/02/20 20:02 ID: hxqr7c0

Absolute treasures. The Last Of Us Part II is the best game of the last generation in my opinion.

I really hope that rumor about TLOU remake for PS5 is true and we get it by the end of this year or early next year, that and Factions 2 are the only games I think we will get soon as they have just released TLOU2....I think we would have to wait till 2024 for their next big AAA title

ID: hxqqnu8

I hope it’s false. We really don’t need a TLOU remake. If they were going to remake something, surely the Uncharted Trilogy would also get the remake treatment, why just remake TLOU. But again, no remakes are needed. We need new games and new IPs. All this time spent remaking games we’ve already experience will mean we never get new experiences and stories. ND are perfectly capable of coming up with something new. They are long overdue, they haven’t created a new IP for over ten years.

ID: hxr12u3

I just started another play thru of part 1 tonight and I think it starting to show its age now

ID: hxqsumc

We don't need new IP. Do a TLOU prequel that starts right after the intro of TLOU. There is a huge gap there and we could play as Joel.

8 : Anonymous2022/02/20 17:43 ID: hxq71b0

You should definitely play Uncharted 2 & 3, the remasters are 60fps and hold up really well. I enjoyed 1 but 2 & 3 are all timers. Also greatly enhances Uncharted 4.

9 : Anonymous2022/02/20 21:04 ID: hxqzys0

I know it’s not ND, but also play god of war on ps5, it looks and runs amazing

10 : Anonymous2022/02/20 22:45 ID: hxrebyz

It's odd cause I started TLOU 1 and never finished, found it kinda meh for some reason. I got a PS5 and its really revitalized my love of gaming. On a whim I played TLOU 2 and it completely blew me away! Top 3 games for me all time. I just finished Uncharted 4 (already played and beat 1 -3). and am in the middle of Lost Legacy and then Im definitely am going to go back to TLOU 1 and give it the go it deserves. I think the main problem is I lost a lot of interest in gaming with the PS4 and its ridiculous load times that I mainly played on my PC and switch. The PS5 has quickly shot up to one of my favorite systems ever (and I started in the Atari age).

11 : Anonymous2022/02/20 15:30 ID: hxpnivs

Omg hidden gems!

ID: hxqxkqm

The title literally says “where have I been?”

12 : Anonymous2022/02/20 15:24 ID: hxpmmtf

They’re pretty good if you’re looking for a cinematic handholding type experience, probably the best.

13 : Anonymous2022/02/20 20:33 ID: hxqvp9m

Just a note, if you are loving Uncharted. Try Uncharted 4's Multiplayer. The reason why is because it plays in 60fps and once you see Uncharted running that smooth it feels TOTALLY different.

Even more on that, Uncharted will be releasing on PC this year

ID: hxqz41g

Uncharted 4 singleplayer on the PS5 runs at 120fps in 1080p or 60fps 4k upscaled. Pretty smooth indeed.

ID: hxr4gjj

Damn that's awesome. Haven't personally got to play it on PS5 but i'll definitely pick it up again either on PC or when I can get my hands on a PS5.

Uncharted above at 60+ in singleplayer sounds suuuuper cool tho!

ID: hxr9mug

Sounds like they got the Uncharted Legacy of Thieves collection since they mentioned 60 fps. Which removed the multiplayer

14 : Anonymous2022/02/20 21:54 ID: hxr73vl

Great devs, Sony have said they won't rule out 30fps for exclusives. Honestly I find it bareable as long as frame time is good, but hopefully they at least have options of 30 and 60fps.

15 : Anonymous2022/02/20 22:07 ID: hxr8yni

Ikr! This was literally me when I played last of us for the first time in 2019 as a pc main. I now own a ps5 because of naughty dog. I need to be able to play there next title.

16 : Anonymous2022/02/20 23:50 ID: hxrn0z5

They're the best console studio around.

17 : Anonymous2022/02/20 18:46 ID: hxqge9a

Right there with you dude. Now that we have 60fps gaming on consoles, there's no way game developers will go back to 30fps. I think all new games will have a performance mode of some kind.

ID: hxqyb3j

30 fps will always be a thing because it allows developers to push the limits of the console more than they can with 60 fps. I hope every game continues to have both options.

ID: hxqyfo6

I don't play games that run at 30fps. Quite simple really, and I don't care if I get downvoted for it.

18 : Anonymous2022/02/20 17:18 ID: hxq3bz2

I hope they have a 30 fps and 60 fps mode. If they do only 60 fps, that's limiting their potential for what they can achieve.
