Ukraine calls on PlayStation and Xbox to temporarily ban accounts in Russia and Belarus

It’s not like Putin is playing horizon forbidden west in his free time while this is happening.

“Lemme just put Ukraine in my stash for later”

ID: hz260dh

I laughed when I read the comment but I think the idea is to get people there all riled up so that they cause problems for the government there. Take away the gamers games/money and they’ll have nothing to do but go and create issues.

ID: hz2tume

Yes, any one who thinks this is about Putin playing games is wildly out of touch. It’s about causing civil insurrection so Russia collapses from the inside as well as outside military forces

ID: hz3p8nm

During these troubling times, the worlds needs someone like GAIA in case of nuclear war...

ID: hz3tqma

The point is to piss the people off enough that they unfuck their government.

ID: hz23x37

That would be amazing.

ID: hz2wpkp

Its prob more to get their citizens to revolt at what is going on. Although they might get killed doing so.

“Eh I’m busy in Elden Ring, we’ll invade more of Ukraine tomorrow”

ID: hz3kg5j

He’ll fail hard too in Elden Ring.

4 : Anonymous2022/03/02 16:48 ID: hz2gzxu

Already doing it I have had the name Putin in my psn since we could change usernames and it was changed today

5 : Anonymous2022/03/02 14:01 ID: hz1sjb1

Similar to pornhub banning Russian IPs. Target the civilians to weaken his support. Its crude but effective

ID: hz2makj

No Booba = revolution

ID: hz2rubj

It's not effective, we don't have democracy here. All you get for protesting is 15 years in Russian jail. We are already poor, but this sanctions are stealing services and products we've already paid for, and turning our salary into toilet paper. Russian people don't want this war to continue, but we can't do anything, there were numerous protests for the past decade, but we can't do anything against our military police. But now I won't be able to play the games I bought btw my salary is around $350 now(I work as a rocket space engineer) , so you can imagine, how expensive this games are for us

ID: hz3spkw

Are you saying that millions of Russian people can't do anything but a smaller but effective resistance in Ukraine can? All this war has shown to me as a westerner is that your military is not quite equipped to deal with warfare on a modern basis. Can't even get their convoy to Kyiv without running out of supplies.

ID: hz2sv6a

And we feel for the Russian people. But war is ugly. War is hell. And the Russian leadership chose this. They chose this for their people. This is the world's way of responding. It's very effective in the sense that it turns the people against the government. That makes the government less effective. What better way to strike than from inside. Ukrainian civilians are being killed by Russian attacks. Russian civilians can't watch porn or play ps5... big difference

6 : Anonymous2022/03/02 20:46 ID: hz3i8m5

Don’t forget that 60% of Baltic states ( Estonian, Latvians, Lithuanian) plays on Russian region, because Sony not provide region for us, also a lot of Ukrainian play on Russian region, because when psPlus started there was no Ukrainian region from Sony… so if Sony plans to block that accounts they should do it by IP only. I personally have 2 ACC, one in GB for myself and second Russian…

7 : Anonymous2022/03/02 20:44 ID: hz3hvd0

Taking the porn sites was rough enough…

8 : Anonymous2022/03/02 20:52 ID: hz3j5jf

SouljaConsole market shares sky-rocket in Russia...

9 : Anonymous2022/03/02 17:16 ID: hz2l963

Idk about that kinda hard to do anything with loads of people that speak out are killed or taken I don't blame many for not doing anything that harsh to claim a nation of people is bad for not wanting to be taken to camps for speaking out

10 : Anonymous2022/03/02 22:14 ID: hz3v1nf

This is stupid

11 : Anonymous2022/03/02 22:16 ID: hz3vdo2

People forget that there are infact normal people living in russia

12 : Anonymous2022/03/02 19:16 ID: hz346xy

Why though? They paid for a service, I would hate if something I paid for was taken away because of my government being shitty. They want them to punish people who didn’t do anything AND PAID for the service?

ID: hz3fpkv

To help put pressure on Putin to back off, potentially it could cause civil unrest and then there's a chance of Putin possibly being overthrown.

ID: hz3h76z

Revolution is when no games. Just don’t google what was happening with Russian opposition all these years

13 : Anonymous2022/03/02 22:06 ID: hz3tvmg

Putin is a beast at Warzone. Take his ps5.

14 : Anonymous2022/03/02 22:06 ID: hz3twnl

The president of Nintendo in Russia is particularly corrupt. There’s stories revolving around money laundering and biased player banning and sexual assaults. He also makes public statements using obscenities if I remember.

15 : Anonymous2022/03/02 14:46 ID: hz1yl4a

Yes.

Let innocent people suffer because their egomaniac asshole dictator has a small peepee.

That will help.

ID: hz2e23j

But Russia is also banned from competing in international sports competions such as the FIFA world cup, so it's basically the same.

ID: hz2e8cb

How is "athletes representing their country internationally under a united flag" the same as "Dimitri playing some Doom in his flat"?

16 : Anonymous2022/03/02 13:49 ID: hz1r2qw

I feel like ALL the gaming companies should do that and follow-suit, not just Playstation and Xbox

17 : Anonymous2022/03/02 20:20 ID: hz3e7wi

No lol that’s actually stupid

18 : Anonymous2022/03/02 15:35 ID: hz25mex

Idk seems unproductive people that have no horse in the race normal civilians have nothing to do with this instead maybe advertising funding for relief or helping Ukraine banning psn isn't gonna stop an invasion of a nation with very little ps5s

19 : Anonymous2022/03/02 13:50 ID: hz1r61f

So dumb, most of the people in Russia are either in the dark and don’t know what is happening or protesting their own government. Going after those people doesn’t make any sense and is damaging to your cause.

Banning Russia from esports I can see.

ID: hz1uafm

It's a way of applying internal pressure. Like you said, people who are in the dark or are not caring that much about all that is happening will suddenly be directly affected and be pushed to take action like going to the streets and other forms of protest. In the end, this is the goal of sanctions: to target the nation as a whole, not only the government. It's unfair to the common citizen, sure, but it's the only way,

ID: hz24f7p

Is there a possibility for Putin to spin all these sanctions as "see, the west hates us" and somehow swindle the russian populace into aligning further with china?

ID: hz1rla3

Name checks out.

ID: hz1wj48

You should check out Russian social media VK. The only talk on their is about saving lives from the Ukrainian military committing genocide and Nazis. How they’ve saved 130,000 people so far crossing into Russia and providing humanitarian aid and their special operation won’t occupy Ukraine*

ID: hz1x211

Also, many of the “No War” comments I’ve seen so far are actually protesting Ukrainian military to lay down their weapons and stop mass genocide.

Many Russians that I’ve been reading their posts seem to think their invasion of Ukraine is saving Ukraine…

20 : Anonymous2022/03/02 17:31 ID: hz2nmi6

Peak ethnical discrimination. Yall scream racism in the eu and us for less. Know your places. Nobody took your cod account for invading middle eastern countries.

21 : Anonymous2022/03/02 20:44 ID: hz3hwpt

That's a bit harsh. Those people aren't part of the war. Some even protested against it.

22 : Anonymous2022/03/02 20:31 ID: hz3fvma

No. Stealing from ordinary people will not help. If somebody paid for a Playstation or Xbox account, they should be allowed to play their video games.

"Hey, let's be a dick to ordinary Russian people who are powerless because they're under an evil dictator, by cutting off their video game subscription." does no good.

23 : Anonymous2022/03/02 20:31 ID: hz3fynl

We shouldn’t punish people for the sins of their government. If that was the case we could all get our accounts arbitrarily banned.

24 : Anonymous2022/03/02 16:35 ID: hz2esmz

Yeah cause if your government sucks its fair to affect the people and you think that will put any care to it? Also pretty hypocritical to release a article like that just cause it's against Russia.

ID: hz2n7uh

What?

25 : Anonymous2022/03/02 16:41 ID: hz2fsif

That’s silly

26 : Anonymous2022/03/02 19:26 ID: hz35u81

Man, theres alot of way to pressure, but this aint one of them, banning accounts, banning from sports, banning from F1, i think they’re taking it too far now.. whats next?

ID: hz3jtm3

Taking it too far? Tell that to all the civilians that have lost their lives/loved ones/homes. But God forbid russians won't get to play some video games. They need to finally stand up to their government and stop playing the victim.

27 : Anonymous2022/03/02 13:54 ID: hz1rqcr

This is stupid. The Russian and Belarus people have done nothing wrong. Its the ones in power of these countries that are causing chaos.

ID: hz259ix

That's the point. By effecting the people, you spread dissent among the nation. This is the point of the sanctions. You get the general population to go against their government, leading to the government being forced to direct it's attention to the public, and eventually being forced to pull out of the conflict due to civil unrest within their own borders.
