DLC Returnal When?

I always figured it’d be used for a DLC area, but it’s possible that it’s just a remnant from development or a feature that got axed. I’d love DLC with new biomes/story clarification and would be/am surprised that nothing has been announced

Ugh wish Returnal got DLC first

Too bad. I was hoping we’d get a content update, DLC or Returnal 2. but I guess that will take some time. Man I would absolutely lose my shit if they ever announced Returnal 2

At least they came out and said it. But I am curious about their potential with working on AAA titles. Returnal was their first, and the studio is known for their arcade-like titles such as Resogun and Geometry Wars 3.

ID: hz44w9vThe fact that they haven’t made a game like this and knocked it out of the park in pretty much every quality is wild. I’m a big fan of their games and did not think they could top Resogun or Nex Machina but Returnal is just incredible.
ID: hz39rxvGeometry wars isn’t housemarque. I actually find it funny how they’re touted as the kings of the twin stick shooter when geometry wars 1-3 exist.
ID: hz3ccfwI got confused. Lucid were the GW3 devs. I was scrambling for information on the second party studios that I got them mixed up. But they did make Super Stardust.
But we will likely not see their next project until 2023 at the earliest, 2024 more than likely. The development of Returnal was very interesting, as they were working on multiple projects in 2019 with their 70 employees. Eventually the project got extremely ambitious they ended up shifting focus to this project. Similar to Retro Studios, when they had something like 5 projects in the works for the Gamecube. They were working on an NFL title, a car combat title, Raven Blade (which was the furthest along in development before getting canned) and an untitled Action Adventure game. The latter project was their most ambitious, but it was canceled. The project did ignite interest in Nintendo and Miyamoto, and they gave them rights to Metroid. Boom, we got Metroid Prime, which was operated on crunch time, and was such a massive project that Nintendo had to actually buyout the studio.

ID: hz47o7tI see others mentioned Nex and Stardust... but there's also Dead Nation and Alienation. Both are fantastic twin-stick shooters.

ID: hz40y30I never liked 2D bullet hell games but something about the freedom of movement you get in 3D made the bullet hell in returnal way more enjoyable
Also the fact that you could dash through most of the projectiles made it more of an exercise in positioning and timing rather than split second reactions

I hope they make another game like Dead Nation/Alienation/Nex Machina.
Returnal was pretty amazing too though and probably has more 'mass appeal'. Interesting they're going straight for new IP and not a sequel.

Can’t wait to see what they do next. Returnal was amazing and had some of the best gameplay, easily my goty last year.

I honestly can't imagine they'll go back to making arcade games. They even said themselves that that market is dead. Returnal was brilliant and I would much rather see a new IP from a talented studio than a sequel.

Why is everyone assuming this means no Returnal DLC? Typically when a studio moves to a new project, there are developers that aren’t needed right away and are usually left with working on DLC for their previous project. Not saying that’s what’s happening here but I think it’s at least a possibility.
I’m all for a new IP though! I love Housemarque and I’m sure whatever they do will be awesome!

Figures their games that no one played and made them declare that Arcade was dead like Resogun and Alienation had season passes, with two (great) games that also no one played called Nex Machina and Matterfall getting no DLC, but the big giant winner gets 0 patches and 0 DLC...

question for all of the Returnal lovers here, I am not the biggest rogue like fan. I wasn’t into Deathloop, so am I not going to be into this? been putting this one off forever because I’m scared I’m not gonna like it.
ID: hz41qulHaven't played Deathloop, but as someone who really loves roguelikes/lites (enjoyed Hades, Risk of Rain 2, Rogue Legacy, Dead Cells), i think Returnal has by far the finest 30 second gameplay loop in the genre, as well as the best bosses. It is a masterclass of combat design
One of the reoccuring critiques I heard of Deathloop is a serious lack of enemy variety and enemies being easy to cheese. That is absolutely not a problem in returnal
