This was a feature I didn’t really care much about in the news leading up to launch, but I’m replaying Control with the PS5 updates and they’re way better than I expected.
Being able to quickly see how much time my current objective may take is great, I can decide to find a save point and continue tomorrow, or if it’s just 15m I might finish now.
The integrated help is fantastic also. I was re-solving the HRA puzzle and couldn’t remember how I did it, and the help is broken into small snippets, so instead of spoiling the whole solution, you can see just enough to get over the hump.
I hope other 3rd party games continue to leverage this feature as well as Control does.

Absolutely! Saves me having to open up Youtube to listen to some guy with a 2 min+ intro before proceeding to tell me the information I need in the 5 seconds.
ID: gryzunyID: grz8q4zTips were super useful for Astro when looking for secrets
ID: grzdjlkGames like Bugsnax and Control had useful tips when I was stuck in certain places. Hopefully every third party dev makes use of this feature.
My wish is that 5 years from now I'll never have to pause games and open up my phone or PC to look for a guide. Would be great if every info you need is available at the press of a button.
ID: grze6fzUgh! I didn't know about this.
I could of used this a couple of times in the game.

I get lost in Control a lot since it doesn’t have the best map so I love that they have videos showing where to go.
ID: grzcg6rOh my god, really?! I couldn't bring myself to finish Control because I absolutely loathed the map and never knew what to do or where to go, but I loved the vibe of the game and would love to see what the hype is about. Glad I claimed it on PS+, I might have to give it another go now that I know about this.
ID: grzeddaFinished it today for the first time. Bloody amazing game. Loved it and the 2 dlc.
Don't rely too heavily on the map to start off. It will start making sense the more you play the game. Instead use the sign posts all around the building. The map is useful to see where you need to head for the next mission (highlights the area in yellow).
Since you got the PS+ version, you'll also have the 2 dlc.
ID: grzi6vwthe map was doing my head in at first, but after you find more of the service elevators it helps a lot
ID: grzq5xjFollow the signs in-game moreso than the map. It helps a lot. It's supposed to be a bit confusing at first but you get used to how to get to all the main places fairly quickly. I agree the map isn't great but such a good game especially once you get better stronger power upgrades etc.
ID: grzl02tliterally might be the worst map in any game i've ever played. otherwise a fantastic game.

Yes! The cards are great and I wasn't sure how I would feel about game help but its great too. The hints are perfect and its a lot quicker than searching through videos on YouTube. I will say some of the game help videos straight up give stuff away and make things way too easy for me though. In Sackboy a big adventure game help shows you exactly where all the dreamer orbs are and how to get there so I only used it if I was really stumped.
ID: grz5fzxI’m still unaware of how to access them lol
ID: grzavy4Push the PS button while in a game
ID: grzc5seI hope Sont will allow developers to provide both text hints along with the ability to add a video if you still can't find what you're looking for. This way you get an indication of what to do/where to look so it doesn’t completely spoil it for you.
ID: grzj763There is a setting you can tell it to keep spoilers hidden

I was someone that really didn't like the idea of them. I played through miles morales, and valhalla at launch without looking at them, but last month when I was playing Bugsnax, I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to catch this one bug. I was charging my phone somewhere else, so I opened up the cards for a whirl. It was awesome! I instantly got presented a mini tutorial on how to catch the bug, with 3 steps and a video I could watch whilst playing my game at the same time.
ID: grzj15dOh man! I dropped bugsnax for the same reason and I've since figured out the card help system. I should totally go back.
-
They're alright I guess. I think they're cool, they have a lot of potential, but right now good cards are too few and too far between. Hopefully later in the generation we'll see it be widely adopted and put to good use.
-
I never use them, I’d like an option to turn them off down the road for people who want to.
-
Really looking forward to the cards when I finally get a ps5
Much better than spoiling whole sections!
ID: grzjlcuThey're great and part of "next gen" to me. Cards, DualSense, faster load times, 3d audio. This is next gen.
-
I haven't used them too much, but I loved them in Miles Morales, especially for trophy hunting. All I had to do was click the PS button, hit down, click the card and boom I'm onto the next trophy. Very cool.
Big fan of PS5's UI as a whole actually. The new UI is always one of the most fun parts of the console and while I enjoy my Series S, the fact that the UI is the same as Xbox One is a bummer. I understand Sony and Microsoft are on different paths and Microsoft wants the Xbox brand to be one experience, but I am a big fan of PS5's UI coming from PS4.
-
I like that they can track trophy completion but viewing trophies is such a pain in the ass now.
-
Are they the squares that come up when you hit the ps button? If so, I don't get the point of them, mine just show up completely random info that I don't need.
ID: grzd0rvDifferent games use them differently, but I've found that their best use is to jump into the game immediately from a cold boot. Skip the menus, even (I think) sometimes the intro boot-up videos. This works on, for examples:
- bugsnax (choosing different cards merely changes your active quest, nothing else, but sends you straight into your most recent save).
- Demon's Souls (if you pick the area you logged off in, it drops you straight back, no start menu. Also, once in game, in a level, you can open up the details of the cards for hints, if you so choose)
- Astro (lets you pick where you want to go. Also provides some detail on the % of collectibles you've found so far).
Ultimately they're not doing anything that you couldn't do in game (or a google search for the hints), it just streamlines it a bit more, and integrates it directly into the software (if applied correctly, which I understand some games haven't done as well).
ID: grziciaI can see the potential in the cards, it'd be nice if it was basically just the trophy menu (what's complete and incomplete) and a quick link to a video on how to complete them but atm it just shows me % complete of random trophies I've already got and links to random videos like speed runs.
ID: grzb4trIf you’re playing a PS4 game it’s probably just showing some default info
ID: grzg151Ps5
ID: grzjbqnIf you have ps+ some games have tips for some quests etc. The devs have to add it in.
-
I wish I remembered to use them more. They're so fuckin' quick. But, you gotta kinda retrain yourself.
First time I used it was to find a puzzle piece in AstroBot, and I felt like such an idiot.
-
I forgot about them, then tried it with Marquette and I loved it. No googling and hoping the video doesn't have a 20 min preamble. And I like that they're small hints, so if I only needed 1/3 to get the puzzle, I didn't even consider it cheating!
I then used it on Fenyx cause I didn't understand a puzzle, again 1/3 made me realize I must have missed a switch, went back and found the one I missed and I was on the way!
-
It’s something I didn’t seek out, but I’m finding them nice when it’s late and I’m trying to get in as much play time as I can. I can normally just flip them open and see where I’m at in the current quest/plot point.
-
Best used to jump into a game from a cold start imo. I do really, really, hate them for achievs though.
-
I too was playing Control and really liked the card giving me info like how many more countermeasure I need to compete for the trophy and such
-
Wait how do I view my cards?! Lol im stuck in Celeste
-
But most of the time they are just annoying and take up screen space whenever you go to the menu.
ID: grzf348They ARE the menu a lot of the time.
-
Eh, I think they’re useless and inaccurate
ID: grz2w7bwhy do you say that? any reason it hasn't worked for you?
ID: grz4678I found the times in Control to be wrong and in Sackboy theyre horrible. Instead of helping you work towards trophies, most of the time theyre just they just tell you to replay random levels
ID: grz3zfxCan you give us an example of why?
-
You pointed out 2 features which are the cards that most people only use, besides tropies, voice chat, and shortcuts. I wouldn’t say they are “excellent,” they need to improve a lot more and add cards people actually will use.
ID: grzbgcmI think they’ll definitely get even better. We’re just scratching the surface I think.

This.....don't need to listen to a 10 min video so he can monetise it
