This man speaks to me on a primal level. Anyway, direct link is here.

Seems like everyone is really loving it. I think it’s going to review pretty well. Unless it gets boring and repetitive in the later hours but I don’t see that happening from a team like Housemarque
ID: gvg0po9ID: gvg2kd3Same here. If returns is half the game of hades it’s worth it. Hades turned me on to rogue likes forever and can’t get enough. Same with risk of rain 2
ID: gvg435qThe one huge fault in rougue likes is how cheap they can become in order to prolong gameplay or present higher difficulty. It is why i got frustrated and gave up in dead cells. There comes a point where it just stops being fun and its just a personal challenge. I hope returnal doesnt take those types of pointers.

Happy to see this. Returnal looks like they really put their heart into it and tried something new and different and I want to see it succeed. Also because game-y games with good/serious stories are a good thing.
ID: gvg80igvery much against the "Sony only makes movie games" narrative, thankfully. as a new ps5 owner who skipped the ps4, I welcome more game-y games over more movie games
ID: gvg8m2oI think people discount the gameplay in some of those games just because they have a streamlined story and include sometimes lengthy cutscenes. TLOU2 has ridiculously fun combat and stealth mechanics, for instance. And it's a solid 30 hour playthrough. Obviously most of that is gameplay and not just story.
I might be biased because I generally like their more cinematic games, but you can't tell me that Spider-Man and Horizon Zero Dawn aren't incredibly fun games to control, you know?

Game looks so smooth

The amount of diversity in Sony's output of games has always been mindboggling. It sounds unbelievable but last gen Sony funded more new IPs than all other major publishers like MS, Nintendo, Activision, EA, Ubisoft, WB, Bethesda, etc. all put together. Including some of the most unique one of kind experiences of every size from Death Stranding to Dreams to The Last Guardian to Detroit to Resogun to Concrete Genie and tons more. Not to mention their efforts in the VR space with some great results like Astrobot, Moss and Blood and Truth.
No other publisher has even a fraction of the diversity in it's output as Sony, or quality for that matter.
ID: gvfv716The reason why I went with PS5 this gen after the xbox one. I have been catching up on the PS4 exclusives in the last few months and I am having way more fun then any other few months in the last 5-10 years of gaming.
ID: gvg3docSame here. I just finished the last of us, ghost of Tsushima and shadow of the colossus for the first time and I’ve basically been in gaming nirvana
ID: gvghd2vPS4 has my favorite lineup of exclusive games of any console ever.
Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, Horizon, God of War, Spider-Man are all amazing, and I had a lot of fun with inFAMOUS Second Son/First Light, Ratchet & Clank, MLB The Show series & Uncharted Lost Legacy
And I haven't even started Shadow of the Colossus, Days Gone, TLoU2 or Ghost of Tsushima yet.
ID: gvg3or9I bought a PS5 for exclusives after being let down by the Last generation of Xbox and God Of War more than justified my purchase.
ID: gvg5hmxWelcome to the PS Family!
ID: gvfxorxWhich is funny when you consider all the bullshit they got for that misleading Schrierer report the other week
ID: gvgcw89Yea, as I read some of that article and the reactions, I kept coming back to "Isn't Returnal going to be one of those unique Sony games they're apparently not focusing on?" Had to take the whole thing with a grain of salt.
It was such a strange premise, because a lot was being made out of Sony only focusing on its "core" properties rather than fostering unique experiences along side those major games. And then they were killing Sony for not green lighting Days Gone 2, a sequel.
ID: gvfphulBut but all 3rd person story driven games!!
ID: gvg169qI’ve never played an FPS that’s floored me the way most ps exclusives have.
ID: gvg02n8I love how all of a sudden this is a genre and not like, the most common camera perspective plus a fundamental part of almost all games.
As someone playing through Sony's first party catalog for the first time, even a lot of the games by the same developer feel totally different. TLOU and Uncharted have similar presentation, but they play completely differently.
ID: gvg2sa2Resogun was pretty much a 2d arcade game and Dreams was not narrative driven? As well as that, you have Driveclub and GT which are driving games, Firewall, farpoint and Iron-man are first person VR games and probably many more PS Exclusives that don't fit the '3rd person story driven games' genre.
I think your statement could more aptly be applied to the whole games industry. At the moment, it does feel like every game coming out is a 3rd person story driven game, but that is clearly what is in demand right now and I must say my favourite games do fit that description. I think PS4 exclusives are doing a good job at being diverse though, and really don't understand this argument.
ID: gvfpwetThat argument is so dumb smh
ID: gvg2b7gIt still amazes me that Last Guardian released on PS4, and in the middle of its lifetime for that matter. The game was first slated for like 2008 IIRC

AAA roguelike
-
Man, I know this game is gonna do well critically, but I really hope it sells enough so we can keep getting games like this.
-
If people want original ideas to thrive, fucking buy this if it reviews well, so we don't just constantly get Destiny rip offs and Ubisoft bullshit.
This is the first AAA rogue-like, encourage new ideas. Like this, Death Stranding, etc
ID: gvhmtdmYou know what, I’m buying this at full price day 1 because you’re totally right
ID: gvh8u02*if you like the look of it. I get we want to support innovation and creativity, but if it's not for you, you shouldn't force yourself to buy it for the greater good

“Sony can still turn out left field blockbusters.”
What is with the sudden doubt that Sony can make great games? I understand the PS5 rollout hasn’t exactly went smoothly but their ability to create blockbusters shouldn’t even be in question.
-
I was thinking this would just be a generic shooter for the sake of having an exclusive. After watching some of the recent footage and seeing what reviewers have to say about it, I’m pretty pumped. Gonna have to watch Prometheus for some full immersion.
-
Just a few days ago everyone here was complaining about it being full price. Imagine complaining about that, and then buying literally any COD or sports game. $70 for a few new fucking teams, guns, or maps.
ID: gvggsaiThat could literally be patched in
ID: gvgiwqeI don’t know if the same people that are complaining about Returnal’s price tag are the same people buying new sports games every year...
-
Pretty confident I’m getting this game. Already got the PTO in for next Friday lmao
-
Keep Sony weird. Keep getting weirder. Fuck Battle Royales and Mobile games.
-
I have to say - all of the drama about Sony focus being on AAA Blockbuster games was all blown way out of proportion. I may be in the minority on this apparently but I bought a PS5 because of Sonys first party studios always bringing the wow factor and this has been the case for many years now so it's certainly not anything new. Very happy to hear Returnal is looking like a unique experience and it has my interest for sure.
-
Experiences like this are why I bought a PS5. No folks, Sony aren't killing Indie development, they are getting better at it than ever before. This is peak Sony, stop the FUD please. Trust in Jim Ryan. He will deliver something spectacular.
ID: gvfpbioSony's out here making indie-esque games with AAA budgets, what's riskier than that?
-
Not sure why so many of the comments are geared at Microsoft. It's kind of a bummer, I realize there is always going to be comparisons considering the hardware difference is so small compared to the Switch but Returnal shouldn't be used for fanboy fodder.
Honestly the fact this game's reception seems to be so positive is awesome. I love how Housemarque have retained the arcade aspects of their pedigree while also embracing some of the strengths of Sony's portfolio, namely a nice equilibrium between narrative and gameplay. I'm psyched to play this next week.
-
Watched some gameplay last night, this game looks sick and has huge potential.
-
Leftfield blockbusters? whats that?
ID: gvfmpr8Unexpected blockbusters
ID: gvg3krkWhen something is out of left field, it means it’s unexpected
ID: gvfn5d5Socialist blockbusters!
ID: gvfpdi1O U R Blockbuster
ID: gvfn7jfOur blockbusters
ID: gvfrtxjDeath Stranding.
ID: gvgfw1bTo come out of the left field. Basically means something unexpected. People were cautious to outright cynical about Returnal. And it’s getting rave reviews.
-
It is clear now from every statement that this game is going to be really good and worth 70$ (at least for me). This is a complete triple A game.

Heck. Hades is a game that is repetitive and I love the shit out of it. That’s the benefit of a rougelike
