- Mario.
-
Isn't that why they called the levels 'stages'?

Mario 2: Dream
Mario 3: Stage play
Mario World: The realest game out there
ID: gvhn6txMario 1 was actually Luigi saving the princess just the story retold from Mario's perspective.
ID: gvicprgMario 2 wasn't really a Mario game, it was a different game from Japan called doki doki panic that Nintendo America changed the sprites for. The Japanese second Mario game was called The Lost Levels and was deemed too difficult
ID: gviimsxSuper Mario Bros. 2 was the name of the Japanese version. The SNES release titled, Super Mario All-Stars contained a game called The Lost Levels which was a remake of the Japanese version. And yes, that game was beyond difficult.

I’m pretty sure that’s stage left, not stage right.
ID: gvhakmmCorrect
ID: gvinuuvHeavens to megatroid
ID: gvio3bk“Exit stage left, even!”
ID: gvgoitqI thought it was how the audience viewed it?
ID: gvgomasNope. Stage directions are for the actors and refer to the view they get looking towards the audience. So stage left is audience right.
ID: gvh86dyStage left. Stage. Left... Stage.
ID: gvhgk91From the performer's perspective you do exit stage left.
ID: gvikypeWhat constitutes stage left is not dependent on perspective. That’s the whole reason for having the distinction.
-
Never in danger? You were never on crew. Those actors are always in danger.
-
Yeah and Mario 2 was a dream
-
Everybody knows that though. right?
ID: gvgpelyBreaking news guys John Romero is the true final boss in Doom II
ID: gvgyaqjAnd he broke his toe when he kicked the helmet
ID: gvhrk5bFinal supervisor
ID: gvhcksaYes and it was even confirmed by Shigeru Miyamoto
ID: gvhkqyvI thought they did but apparently the kids are out to learn today.
ID: gvhn4h1I didn’t
ID: gvh0gg9Apparently not, somehow.
-
Whenever Mario fell it was just rehearsal.
-
Tell that to that sand world that destroyed me many a time
ID: gvhp34bYep! And those cannons in World 8 were shooting live ammo.
-
Just because it was a play, doesn't mean it never happened, or that Mario wasn't in danger.
Think of it more like a circus act, and you'll understand why the risk is still there.
ID: gvgnsc6Or pro-wrestling.
ID: gvh1nhcOh for sure. Definitely more of a situation like this.
-
It’s been confirmed by Miyamoto that it’s a play
-
The real question is: When Mario ducks down behind the white block and runs behind all the set pieces, is that part of the play or is Mario breaking script?
-
Inhales weed
Exhales huge cloud, but slowly
"Go on"...
-
It was just a dramatic reenactment of the first game with new stuff added to make it even more dramatic
-
But what if it was a play re-enacting something that actually happened?
ID: gvhlriaThe first Mario game when he rescues the princess? Just exaggerated for artistic effect
-
Nah, it's just an artistic choice.
-
Interesting. Never thought of it like this at all.
-
Paper mario TTYD also had a crowd and were involved at times. It was wonderful.
-
Wait...4/20 was two days ago. Haha
-
Since it has been proven that it's possible, where is our broadway show?
ID: gvgphiqSuper Mario: Turn off the Star
ID: gvgprkaSpiderman: Turn off the Dark is the only Broadway show I've seen (in New York). I enjoyed it, but it was hilariously camp.
ID: gvh7nd6Mario and the amazing technicolor mushroom.
-
The first game I ever owned because it came with the Nintendo. Great memories.
-
My favorite game<3
-
Miyamoto literally confirmed this. It’s canon:
-
Damn! And here I've been, all this time, not even caring.
-
same for paper mario
-
The heights of risk Mario and Luigi subjected themselves to in order to perform their own death-defying stunts are unparalleled in the industry and I won't have their good names impugned with this claim that any of their amazing feats were mere tricks of misdirection.
-
hopefully at least one person sees this who has not yet seen it
-
Yeah that's already confirmed
-
Or the stage director
-
Shigeru Miyamoto already confirmed this.
-
I’m pretty sure Nintendo said that Mario and everyone are all actors and that’s why they can appear in so many different types of games. Cause it’s all acting.
-
It "happened". It's a retelling of his original adventure.
-
They do this in Paper Mario battles too.
Maybe the whole paper aesthetic predates the Paper Mario series!
-
There was also a secret entrance to behind the level that granted you the first of 3 possible warp whistles I'm the game. So you could say there was a backstage.
-
Personally I don’t like the theory. I feel like since Super Mario Bros. 3 has some very high stakes (Bowser’s army hasn’t been bigger since, and he conquered hell), it takes away the achievement.
-
I thought that was the logic behind all Mario games. That’s why it’s fine for them to all to play golf or go karting. They’re all just friends in an acting troupe.
-
"When Mario-creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, was asked whether Super Mario Bros 2 was in fact a play in a theater, he replied: 'No. It's a fucking video game'".
-
Duh.
-
Wow this post is over 30 years late.
-
I have this theory that Mario is actually a drug addict clinging on to his ex-wife who is now remarried with kids.
Think about it, it's all there:
Mario feels tall when on mushrooms.
Gets Ecstatic when on stars (pills).
Different alternate drugs gives him the impression he can fly.
Needs to collect coins to pay for his costly divorce.
Mario toughest enemies tend to throw hammers which is symbolic of the judges in his divorce case.
Works as a plumber so he just hallucinates his adventures while at work.
Has no friends except for his brother and Toad (potentially his pusher as he's always in trouble somehow.)
Bowser and Peach are actually a couple and have many kids. Both have a castle, it's reasonable that the princess would have a partner in the same social class as her.
Peach always goes back to Bowser, perhaps she's into being in cages or something.

Well in a Miyamoto interview in youtube i recall him nodding to the theater theme but dont recall about details like stages
