Metro Exodus is getting a PS5 60fps Ray Tracing free upgrade soon – and it’s on sale today

1 : Anonymous2021/04/28 16:19 ID: n0iicg

Today is the last day you can buy Metro Exodus digital for PS4 at a huge discount. The sale ends midnight tonight.

In the UK the base game is only £10.49 and the expansion pass is only £9.99. Together both are the same as the “Gold” package (which isn’t on sale) and costs £52.99. So it’s much better to buy the two parts separate, for the same end result as the more expensive “gold” bundle.

Sometime later in 2021, the developers have promised a free PS5 upgrade for all owners of the PS4 game with full 4k at 60fps, with Ray tracing, and dualsense adaptive triggers too!

There could possibly be an even better sale before the upgrades release date, but for about £20 it seems like a great deal to me to get it today and patiently wait — or of course you can play the PS4 version right now and have a fun before/after comparison later 🙂

It's always on sale.

So don't feel like you have to buy it now.

Good point. It might go cheaper in a few months when I will have more free time

ID: gw6tzdk

I haven't looked at the previous prices, that should give some idea of what pricing is likely to happen

ID: gw74bzd

TBH I'd say it'll be free on PS+ when it launches

3 : Anonymous2021/04/28 16:30 ID: gw6t5gm

Just want to say that it's regularly been on sale for the last year so don't feel like you need to buy it now if you don't have the funds.

ID: gw6tb6k

True but could potentially go up for a while after the ps5 release

ID: gw7z9qz

Not really. In fact, the game could even end up as a Ps Plus game sometime later.

Don’t let „the fear of missing out“ get to you - unless you want to play the game right now immediately. We all know how the backlog keeps getting bigger and bigger.

I have Doom Eternal, Metro Exodus, and Witcher 3 in my library waiting for their PS5 upgrade.

Are you me

Try adding demon souls and then instantly knowing It’s too hard for you

if you’re speaking from experience, try grinding. there’s a spot in the fourth world with this grim reaper enemy and it gives a ton of souls.

a war of attrition, but a war you can win

Digital Foundry took a look at the enhanced PC version today. Per the developers the only feature missing from the console versions will be ray traced reflections. Console versions are still set to get full ray traced lighting with infinite bounces and shadows at a dynamic 4K60 target. I'm really curious to see how the console versions stack up against the PC version. This could be the best looking PS5 game when it releases if it lives up to expectations

Speaking of DF video, they also make a comparison between regular temporal upscaling and DLSS in the game, it's a pretty good approximation of what you can expect from the AMD upscaling and how will it fare against AI powered solution from nvidia

Speaking of DF video, they also make a comparison between regular temporal upscaling and DLSS in the game

Considering that similar upscaling method is used on Miles Morales according to DF, kind of yes.. Obviously nowhere near as good as DLSS but still probably good enough to consider it over being forced at running at native resolution,

heck we probably might see the similar upscaling method when DF finally gets to look at the console version of Metro Exodus Enhance Edition, i am starting to see now that the 4K 60 with RT ON performance claims being a possibility with a lot of tweaks on graphics settings and using the mentioned TAA upscaler from something like Native 1080p - 1440p targeting 4K.

Can't wait for the all cross platform [PC vs Xbox Series X vs PS5] analysis of Metro Exodus Enhance Edition.

Why does the PS5 not get RT reflections, or is it Rasterisation limited RT reflections.

ID: gw7yc3j

Way too demanding for RDNA2 i guess. Even the top of the line 6900XT struggles running it.

ID: gw7wd3s

There aren't a lot of reflective surfaces in the game so it probably wasn't worth the performance hit enabling them vs using traditional techniques which look pretty good anyway. I'm guessing it will be the usual mix of screen spaced reflections and cube maps that current gen games use.

The infinite bounces blew my mind. This is the best lighting I've ever seen in a game. Go to 11:25 to see how it works in engine and imagine every light(including fire) in the game working like that. The color of the light can vary and change the color of a whole scene. It's like the digital foundry guy said. This is like a generation ahead in terms of upgrade but within two years!

Damn will be tough to not download the PS4 version and wait for ps5 then haha - I have it ready and waiting though!! A big major FPS in 60fps with Ray tracing in 4k is exactly what I’m wanting right now, and for £20, I couldn’t be more excited.

8 : Anonymous2021/04/28 17:55 ID: gw75i28

Is the expansion pass worth it?

9 : Anonymous2021/04/28 18:46 ID: gw7cv7y

When you say 'full 4k' it likely won't be native 4k, some kind of dynamic resolution scaling will be in play, almost without a doubt.

It'll still look phenomenal though I'm sure, render resolution is the last thing I'd care about when looking at a games visuals (as long as it's above say 1200p with a decent TAA solution).

ID: gw88dym

Yeah even on PC with dlss gaining popularity and once amd has an alternative native resolutions will be a thing of the past and that power will be used for other visuals.

Hopefully they fixed the sluggish controls too

11 : Anonymous2021/04/28 18:30 ID: gw7almx

I want to play this but not sure about buying it, have a feeling this game will be free for PS Plus members really soon

12 : Anonymous2021/04/28 21:54 ID: gw83bwi

I'm not getting a ps5 until like march 2022 realistically at this rate (saving money for a city move + just availability of the ps5), the game will be even cheaper then. In the mean time, I have a huge steam backlog (working on 100%ing and getting the true ending for Virtue's Last Reward currently) of like 300 games on steam, and I'll save a lot of the ps4 games for when I have a ps5, including some of the bigger more tech heavy psvr games

13 : Anonymous2021/04/28 22:19 ID: gw86mhv

Well well well, Ray bloody Tracing.

Well if they wanted to run it on 1080p60 on PS5, the rey tracing would definitely better than 2070's. So your comparison is meaningless

Edit: I own an 2060 super and the RT + 4K Resolution performance is nowhere near Ps5 or Xbox performance. When a console runs at 60 fps, it doesn't mean they can't run at 90. You are just talking about X and Y games. You can't generalize RT performance by just one test case.

Edit 2: I thing you guys haven't seen the original comment since it's deleted. He/she claimed that 2070 can do a better rt at 1080p60 which is stupid because Ps5 runs at 4k60

ID: gw81e3d

which is stupid because Ps5 runs at 4k60

I'm confused what runs at 4k60, is it this game.

ID: gw6w53k

No, it wouldn't. It has already been proven that the consoles are worse than even a 2060 in ray tracing games.

At 1080p60, the consoles would have to use Low ray tracing quality settings to match the performance of the 2070, which uses High RT settings at 1080p60.

At a dynamic 4K60, which is apparently what the consoles are using, the consoles will need to have medium graphical settings and RT settings below the lowest RT settings on PC, as is usually the case.

This is without DLSS.

Now, when you factor DLSS into it, the gap widens even further.
