Mass Effect: Legendary Edition PS5 Graphics and FPS First Impressions

1 : Anonymous2021/05/14 19:52 ID: nchcs0

- Mass Effect: Legendary Edition runs in backward compatibility mode.
- PS5 version runs at native 2160p in quality mode. In performance mode, the resolution lowers to 1440p. No other visual aspect changes between these two modes.
- In quality mode, PS5 offer 60FPS. There seems to be some small drops in PS5, but anecdotal.
- PS5 in performance mode only offers 60FPS due to its limitations in backward compatibility mode.
- Loading times into each of the Mass Effect games takes around 14 seconds.
- PS5 has some graphic bugs with some elements (minute 1:55)

Oh shit so PS5 performance mode is useless?

essentially

Yeah, no reason to use it over Quality Mode

Pretty much a left over from our ancestors, such as the PS4 (really curios how well the performace mode is doing on last-gen consoles).

Everything looks basically identical, unfortunate about load times and PS5's BC mode not being on par with XSX.

EDIT: (I'm comparing XSX to PS5, not to the original games.. obviously. This is a video comparing both consoles, not original games.)

ID: gy52y6p

It definitely highlights a difference but after the initial load I gather it’s only the difference between 1-3 seconds which is basically nothing.

I think it’s like RE Village’s load times where people can point to it as an on-paper advantage with some limited bragging rights, but it will take a real concerted effort to be bothered by it when you’re actually playing.

Yeah, PS5 doesn't get to shine when decompression is happening on its cpu(now gimped to 2.1ghz in bc.)

ID: gy572ye

I thought the CPU, in PS4 Pro mode, runs at max clocks with only SMT being disabled?

ID: gy53ely

As someone who is playing it now...its far from identical. You have a very different definition of identical than I do.

ID: gy53quo

You’re playing it now on both consoles?

ID: gy541c2

So, tell us about your impressions plz. I've never played ME, should i buy to play on PS5? Graphics and Mechanics really matter for me, as the story.

ID: gy53x39

Do you mean ps5 xbox because if you mean it looks identical to the original game you are blind.

This will be the first multi-plat game I get on SX instead of PS5, hard to pass up 120.

Whats the point of performance mode vs quality mode? Surely you would always take 4k/60fps over 1440p/60fps especially if the graphics settings are the same.

ID: gy591za

It's a PS4 game, it was built with settings to reflect that. The fact that the extra power of the PS5 makes that option obsolete has no bearing on the option being offered.

ID: gy5pdi5

Just like Monster Hunter World's performance mode is redundant on PS5 (it is still relevant to PS4Pro)

ID: gy5xvki

So I'm reading that both modes offer 60fps here. So I'm better off running it in quality mode since it's visual fidelity is higher and it runs at 60fps, right? I don't u sweat and why performance mode would be an option if the game runs at 60fps regardless of what mode you're running it in.

I’m very disappointed that there’s no 120 option. Makes me want to wait until I have a series x to play the game.

ID: gy5nuxa

If you value 120hz and are getting a Series X any way then yeah I would wait. The Series X is going to be the superior console for last gen third party games due to MS's massively better back compatibility support.

Really don't understand why Sony would let PS4 games be PS5-aware, only to make them unable to access almost any of the PS5's unique features.

ID: gy5o3vd

Yeah, feels like they’re half assing it. Just tried to make a post about it on here and it was taken down lol

“That, and I was at a Gran Turismo event recently where they had PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 games, and the PS1 and the PS2 games, they looked ancient, like why would anybody play this?”

- Jim Ryan

The president of SIE does not care about backwards compatibility.

Anyone could give its impreesions on next gen? I've never played ME

ID: gy5gwal

Seems like it runs great on new consoles so far. If you're interested in an awesome single player space action RPG trilogy, definitely play it.

I am super curious about the Hammerhead part in the Overlord dlc. Remember being able to literally count the pixels when driving that.

9 : Anonymous2021/05/14 22:04 ID: gy5gjs7

How does the combat feel? I see the textures and framerate are in a good place, but I was wondering if the combat would feel a little dated compared to more modern 3rd person shooters.

ID: gy5hbfg

It does a little, they've made some QOL improvements but it's still as you remember it. ME1 is the worst in terms of combat whereas 2 and 3 are much better. Honestly I can look past the combat in 1 somewhat as the game itself is such a great setup for the rest but yeah.
