From a fellow cancer survivor, I'm very happy to hear he's in remission!

I personally haven't heard any of the FFXIV's OST, but decided to watch the stream knowing Soken and Yoshida's involvement in FFXVI. My god I've never wept before for a person who I'm not familiar with. Just hearing about his work ethics and Yoshida's friendship with him had me ugly sobbing. If you've a Twitter account, please make sure to send all your love to Soken's official account.

Yea, that hit me hard. That level of dedication is utterly amazing and admirable.

this is one of the songs he worked on while in the hospital

This is widely regarded as the best song he composed during his stay in the hospital

FFXIV has become somewhat of a family, it's a beautiful experience. The staff love what they're doing and they love eachother. The community loves the staff and what they produce. The fanfests they hold are free and condensed moments of joy. It's truely one of the better parts of gaming in all shapes and form, it brightenq my days as well.

I was going to label Soken's work ethics as a byproduct of the Japanese work culture, but then realized that he treats his work as a passion project and his work colleagues as close friends. I'm beyond relived to know that FF16 will be the child of these talented and empathy driven folks.

I miss when Nobuo Uematsu was the music composer for the FF series. Imo his music made many of the games as iconic as they are.

Ff14 has some great music at times but it's not Uematsu's work by far. Regardless, props to this man for continuing his work while fighting cancer. Also regardless of what I just said he still makes great music for the game. Wish him the best

Nobuo's career is full of incomparable highs. And my favorite contribution of his to FFXIV, "Answers," remains one of my favorite songs in the game.

That being said, I listened to all of Nobuo's other work for FFXIV and then Soken's work from a Realm Reborn. 9 times out of 10 I did prefer Soken's work. And responding to your other comment further in the thread, I don't think he's too orchestra focused. In fact, I think his variety in experimenting with Rock, Electronic, and Jazz really help round it all out.

I'm old enough to have grown up with Uematsu's compositions and have tremendous respect for them and how iconic many of them are. My Nostalgia for IV and Vi's music is incredibly high.

Having said that, Masayoshi Soken's work on FFXIV is even better in my eyes. More variety, more complexity, more tingles in the high spots. I feel more emotion from Soken's best tracks than Uematsu's. I respectfully disagree with your statement.

His music was a truly memorable part of my days in 14. Cancer sucks, I very happy to read he is in full remission

Honestly the best successor of nobuo uematsu, his work is just exceptional, glad to hear he’s recovering

Square enix and atlus have phenomenal musicians who work on their stuff. It's crazy how much better gaming music is compared to other medias music on average nowadays. Movies and shows music has just gotten worse imo.

His music resonates with me. Since I started playing XIV almost 3 years ago, I have many memories, and the music evokes them so much. Happy times, sad times. The sense of nostalgia from the music is so amazing. His art is truly one of a kind. Watching this live really brought me to tears. I hope the best for him, and will continue to listen to compositions. Seeing him perform last night, you wouldn’t be none the wiser to think anything was wrong with him. He’s truly a master

I’m a HUGE fan of Soken, I grew up with Uematsu, and goddamn he’s such a great successor to Uematsu. When Soken delves into the Jazz genre, he goes hard!

Glad he’s still doing ok. I had no idea of his condition.

Nobody did, half of the development team were just as shocked when he announced it. He said he wanted to keep it a secret so it wouldn't affect his friends work. One woman told him she felt horrible asking for thing after thing in the compositions and now knowing he was in the hospital while she was asking. His response was that was what kept him going not letting anything change.

I just absolutely love this whole team, and I'm glad they're at least in part behind FFXVI. You can tell they all adore and care for each other so much.
